Recognizing types and shadows from the scripture.

I perceive a lack of recognition of types and shadows by a few here, so if you don’t mind, I’d like to demonstrate how to recognize types and shadows using just a single chapter of Isaiah. I picked Isaiah from the B of M for one reason, about half of the verses in the B of M version read differently then in the KJV. What we're looking for here are "types and shadows!" Events recorded in the past that apply to events in our day, events only recognized by those properly looking, those seeking with the Spirit of revelation!

(2 Nephi 13:1-26.)

1 For behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem, and from Judah, the stay and the staff, the whole staff of bread, and the whole stay of water—

Jerusalem (City) and Judah (country) were the headquarters of the Church in Isaiah's day. SLC, and the USA are the HQ in today's church. Jerusalem and Judah are the types and shadows of SLC and the USA today!

Salt Lake City is going to lose all supply lines and food will stopped being shipped into the city and the State. The water will be turned off (drought). Now, jump to verse 7 for a second witness, then to 10 and read what the Lord says about those who have their years supply of food and water;

2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient;

3 The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.

The Lord will take “all” of these brilliant but uninspired people away from us, good thing or bad thing?? How the Lord will accomplish this thing is a story in its self.

4 And I will give children unto them to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

Gangs, thugs will rule the streets, robbing those who have a little left.

5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor; the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable.

Neighbors of the unprepared will turn against each other in order to get food or sustenance of some kind. Wars of neighborhoods against each other, cities against city, states against states. Go to verse 12.

6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, and shall say: Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let not this ruin come under thy hand—

7 In that day shall he swear, saying: I will not be a healer; for in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; make me not a ruler of the people.

Who might this person be?? Study verses six and seven. This verse is key!

8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, because their tongues and their doings have been against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

SLC is ruined, and our country is fallen, why? Disobedience to the Lord’s commandments and, read verse 9;

9 The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves!

Homosexual behavior, Gays and lesbians are proud of their sins, proud of the fact that they’re obvious to the people, this behavior is right at the bottom of the last sins the Lord will tolerate. Now go to verse 12-15.

10 Say unto the righteous that it is well with them; for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

While you’re here, pay strict attention to verse 11 and see what befalls those who refuse to obey the Lord.[/b]

11 Wo unto the wicked, for they shall perish; for the reward of their hands shall be upon them!
Now, return to verses two and three.

12 And my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths.

Remember verses 4-5; Read them again if you do not.

Unrighteous leadership is the cause and effect of the cleansing,, because, they’ll lead the people further astray. This isn’t in any way removing the responsibility of what the leaders are and do, they were placed there by the unrighteous people.

13 The Lord standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people. (not only the leaders)

He does this through his Prophets. Our Lord, through his Prophets will plead, plead some more, and then finally be forced to judge the people, see chapter 6 of Isaiah, where Isaiah receives his calling TO WARN AND CLEAN UP THE MESS!

14 The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people and the princes thereof; for ye have eaten up the vineyard and the spoil of the poor in your houses.

Instead of supporting the poor, you’ve build unnecessarily large houses, much more then you need!

15 What mean ye? Ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor, saith the Lord God of Hosts.
As a people, we have not supported the poor, a very grave sin in the eyes of the Lord, WHY is not supporting the poor so grave a sin?

Then Isaiah talks about the unrighteous daughters of Zion, but we can and should include the sons of Zion, these following passages are pretty much self explanatory.

16 Moreover, the Lord saith: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet—

17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts. (Hiding places in which to commit grievous sin)

18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments, and cauls, and round tires like the moon;

19 The chains and the bracelets, and the mufflers

20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the ear-rings;21 The rings, and nose jewels;

See much of this today?

22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping-pins;

23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and hoods, and the veils.

Then the Lord describes the punishment of choosing to live as described above.

24 And it shall come to pass, instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle, a rent; and instead of well set hair, baldness; and instead of a stomacher, a girding of sackcloth; burning instead of beauty.

These symptoms sound very much like low grade radiation poisoning (alpha and beta rays) which cause the flesh on a person yet alive to stink as it dies. People as describe in this verse won’t last long, very unhappy deaths!

25 Thy men shall fall by the sword and thy mighty in the war. (internal wars)

There’ll be a lot of women and children left, few men will come from outside the protected areas.

26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she shall be desolate, and shall sit upon the ground.

Who’s gates, who’s gate are referenced here? Who’s lamenting here about these very bad times?

Folks, It’s not my intention to frighten, just use this information to get prepared both spiritually and temporally.

I have noticed that women will do whatever they need to do to protect their children. My kids knew that about JoAnn, she’d take on the worlds biggest bear if necessary to protect them. My wife was like a bandie hen protecting her chicks, she’d fly at danger from all directions. I doubt there is many on this site who wouldn’t do the same thing. We read the first verse of the Isaiah chapter above, it concerns us,--- O.K. perhaps it scares us! Then if we read and understand verse 10 and are prepared----How many times have we heard it repeated by our modern day brethren-----“If we are prepared we shall not fear?”

Being afraid, not prepared, after all these warnings is inexcusable! Brethren, If your wife and children go hungry, are not safe, It's your fault, You'll be held responsible by them and by the Lord! There’s still time brethren, get it done!

Thanks for this! I found it to be very helpful.

Do you have any ideas about verse 26?

The gates of the City of Jerusalem, the HQ of the ancient church; The mountain passes that protect today's Church.

What does the study of verse's 6&7 explain?

Thanks, Bob. I often struggle to apply the historical parts of Isaiah to modern places, though I've learned about it before. It's very difficult to know what applies to what. This certainly will help me to do so better in the future.

I have found this chapter very doctrinally stimulating by noticing the symbolism of the bread and water in the first verse. The Lord will take the sacrament away from the people. What does that mean? We are still taking of the sacrament in church, but those who do not try their best to keep the covenants will not have the promise of always having the Holy Ghost with them. This is the reason for the difficulties listed in the remainder of this chapter. The people do not have the Spirit and thus cannot lead, are led by those who shouldn't be, and are entrenched in sin. We can take comfort in the promise of the Lord that we will partake of the fruits of our labor if we have truly striven to serve the Lord.

Thanks again for posting this.

What??? :)) Look Bobby I think you are ignoring a large part of what Isaiah was trying to tell us stupid decadent Yanks. You are only seeing what fits your paradigm on the issue we discussed before concerning an invasion of our land by an external enemy.

If you really want to examine types and shadows fairly and accurately then go to Isaiah and tell me the type and shadow for what is to come as pertaining to things like Isaiah's depiction of the Assyrian superpower and its vast armies from the north and its all out flood of destruction and conquest upon a world ripened in iniquity.

What is the type for the carnally minded other latter day superpower Egypt or as Chapter 28 vividly describes these drunkards of Ephraim who are overcome with pride and opulence and are hurled to the ground by this great Assyrian army in a great display of sheer power and force? Read Chapters 5,10,14,20,28,30,31.

Actually to better help you understand this concept get Gileadi's book "The Book of Isaiah, A New Translation with Interpretive Keys from the Book of Mormon". He spells it out in great detail concerning this latter day battle between these 2 superpowers of our day; Assyria and Egypt/Ephraim, along with the marvelous power of delivery the Lord provides to his righteous remnant who rely totally on him for deliverance from this Assyrian horde. It is an excellent source.

If you still do not believe in this external invasion of our "proud" nation after all that then I don't know what to tell you. To me its as plain as the nose on your face.

Again I say Mark, I'm very familiar with Isaiah, it's my favorite book in the OT. I'm in no way looking past any of Isaiah's words, a full one third of his words are in the Book of Mormon. I'm simply starting at the beginning of the words our Lord has said are "great." I'm not trying to trick you into anything, I'm asking for your help---from the beginning! Using 2 Nephi Chapter 13 as the clearest example.

I'm asking you Mark, what is your understanding of verses 6 & 7? Then we'll start again with chapter 12! But both Nephi and Mormon under direction from Our lord determined that the Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon were of the most important to us! Those chapters first!

We have the promise that we will never lose the Church, hence we will not lose the sacrament. The reference is to food and drinking water, we're headed for a drought (verses 6 & 7) food cannot be grown during a drought, however people can be brought to the heights of humility! Or the depths of deprivation---our choice, our agency!

Also about Gileadi, I devoured his books when they first appeared. Then I talked to him several times, when he informed me his son was to be the Davidic Servant I lost faith in anything he said. I've learned much more from David Ridges books, sans Gileadi! Mark, does the "Assyrian" army have to be a foreign army, or might it be an army made up of our own countrymen from States in the East who discover we have food? We're looking for type and shadow events, not exact events!

Verses 6 & 7???

6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, and shall say: Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let not this ruin come under thy hand—

7 In that day shall he swear, saying: I will not be a healer; for in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; make me not a ruler of the people.

In the Hebrew, "take hold" also means to "manipulate" and "healer" also means "governor". So the picture I get is that some man who has the power to install governors/rulers will try to manipulate his own brother into being the ruler. These brothers would have to come from an elite family, perhaps one that pulls strings behind the scenes. Some elite American families that come to mind are Bush and Rockefeller. Is this the right track?

Right, exactly right! The ldg's will try very hard to establish a king figure over the country during a time of great distress. However, we must not confuse the "type" of a King Hezekiah with the efforts of the ldg's. Our version of Hezekiah, our political leader, will be an elected leader who seeks the help of the Lord. The ldg's want nothing to with the Lord.

We also must remember that the ldg's started the distressful times described, and have lost control of the situation, verses 6-7 represent their desperate efforts to re-grasp control. They are lost tares, because Our Lord is in charge, and we must recognize always has been.

As bad as things get, described in Isaiah 6 and Helaman, we have to keep our eyes and hearts with Our Lord through his Prophet. During these very difficult times, He's the only way we will survive.

Another type, do we see this today? 2 Nephi 30:10

10 For the time speedily cometh that the Lord God shall cause a great division among the people, and the wicked will he destroy; and he will spare his people, yea, even if it so be that he must destroy the wicked by fire.

I've often wondered if that 2 Ne. 30:10 scripture could be interpreted, instead of "the Lord God shall cause" or instigate a great division...

...rather, "the Lord God shall [be the] cause" of a great division...

Avraham is a personal friend of mine and this statement is utterly false. He has always avoided the subject of who the Davidic servant is. This is just rumor started years ago and perpetuated by CES and the enemies of truth. Your audacity Bob to continue this lie via your personal witness makes me believe you are another false persona created to obstruct the truth with other personas who work in the same SLC building, where they egg each other in the pursuit of lies, while their testimonies of their falsehoods burn fiercely in their bosoms!

He may be your personal friend, I do not think you can state on that basis what he may or may not have said to someone else.
Or rather, you can say it, but clearly you have no basis to call Bob a liar.
