It is truly sad to see the hatred and anti-Semitism even among Latter-day Saints. We of all people should understand how anti’s, persecution and hatred works because we lived it too but not to the point that the Jews have. We just got a small taste of it in Kirkland, Missouri, and even in Utah. We ourselves experienced how Satan spreads lies and half-truths to fight against God chosen people. Or I should say our ancestors did. Maybe that is the problem we have forgotten what Lucifer is capable of and how we can fall for his lies.

Some of you remind me of the German people of the 1930s. These same hatreds and lies were told of the Jews then. Gullible people fell for Satan’s deceits and either helped round up the Jews into box cars for their ‘vacations’ or just looked the other way and said nothing and let it happen. Only a few fought and tried to save lives, only a few. What were the rest thinking? “Those evil Jews are the cause of our problems, I am not going to stick my neck out for them! They deserve whatever they get where they’re going.”

As for me I will take counsel with the scriptures and prophets. I will stand with the Jews AND Israel with all its warts and imperfections, just as I will stand for America with all her faults. History is repeating itself if you haven’t noticed. We are living the 1930s in all its mistakes and horror. Anti-Semitism is on the rise AGAIN. Israel will be made a scape goat and the cause of WW III. Then Satan will attempt to wipe out God’s chosen people once again. He will almost succeed.

The question for you will be where will you stand?

Whose side will you be on?

Will you help spread the hate and anti-Semitism?

What will you tell your Grandchildren when they ask you what did you do to stop the new holocaust?

How will you defend your actions when you face The Savior at the bar?

The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion -- Fact or Fiction?

When Adolf Hitler wrote Mein Kampf (My Battle) he included a vitriolic attack against the Jewish race, and blamed most of Germany's problems on the German Jews. He said the Jews were out to take over the world and offered as his proof a publication called, "The Protocols [minutes of proceedings] of the Learned Elders of Zion." This was supposed to have been the plans drawn up at a secret meeting by Jewish leaders for the complete domination of all nations and the building of a Jewish world-dictatorship.

The document Hitler was talking about was first published in Russia in 1903 and was subsequently published in a more extended form in Russia and later in Western Europe and America. It described all the techniques that could be used to destroy representative governments and western, Christian culture, thereby permitting the seizure of political power throughout the world. Being a highly inflammatory document, the Protocols made excellent propaganda for Hitler, but equally serious was the fact that it seemed to be accepted evidence of Jewish duplicity even by many well-meaning people.

Those who published the Protocols often wrote horrendous introductions so that the reader could not possibly miss the pointed implications which the publisher felt it contained. The copy in my own files is undated but appears to be of the early 1920 vintage and says "It [Protocol XI] proves that the desire for a `National Home' in Palestine is only camouflage and an infinitesimal part of the Jew's real object. It proves that the Jews of the world have no intention of settling in Palestine or any separate country, and that their annual prayer that they may all meet `next year in Jerusalem' is merely a piece of their characteristic make-believe. It also demonstrates that the Jews are now a world menace, and that the Aryan races will have to domicile them permanently out of Europe."

Imagine reading such an introduction and then finding lurid passages in the Protocols such as the following (which are supposed to be secret Jewish plans): "We are interested ... in the diminution, the killing out of the goyim [non-Jews]. Our power is in the chronic shortness of food and physical weakness of the worker because by all that this implies he is made the slave of our will, and he will not find in his own authorities either strength or energy to set against our will.... By want and the envy and hatred which it engenders we shall move the mobs and with their hands we shall wipe out all those who hinder us on our way."

It can be readily seen why such a document would serve the purposes of someone like Hitler. As hate literature against the Jews, it could not have been written any better if he had composed it himself.

For many years it seemed that only the Jews were anxious to run down the facts and discover where this so-called Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion actually came from. However, the matter eventually ended up in the courts. In 1934, several Jewish societies in Switzerland brought suit against two Swiss Nazis for distributing the Protocols. Based on the evidence Jewish scholars had collected, they charged that the Protocols were a complete forgery concocted by one of the Tsar's agents while in France and that it had nothing to do with the Jews. At the trial in Bern, which attracted wide attention, it was shown that most of the material was lifted or adapted from a French publication by Maurice Joly, who had written it as a satire against Napoleon III. It was designed to show how a clever fellow could organize a secret force to destroy democratic nations and set up a tyrannical world empire. The book was called A Dialogue Between Machiavelli and Montesquieu. In this book it was not the learned Elders of Zion who were doing the plotting but Machiavelli. The author of the Protocols had obviously lifted words, phrases and ideas from this source.

The trial also brought out the origin of the publication the Protocols and how it had been used by the Russian officials to influence Tsar Nicholas II even before it was published. The author of the forgery was identified as a writer named Golovinskii who had done this work for a Tsarist agent in Paris named Rachkovskii. The date of its origin was put at around 1899-1901.

The trial at Bern accomplished much good by bringing before the scrutiny of a court the true origin and purpose of this spurious document. As a result, various reference works began warning students of the fraudulent nature of the Protocols. It is noted that the latest edition of Webster's College Dictionary has this to say: "Protocols of the Elders of Zion: A set of forged writings created by the Russian reactionaries in 1903 and circulated by anti-Semitic propagandists, purporting to be a record of a series of meetings in Basel in 1897 for plotting the overthrow of Christian civilization by Jews and Free-masons."

After hearing this evidence, the court at Bern reached a verdict that the Protocols were a forgery and therefore could not be distributed. Subsequently, a higher court held that under the broad and permissive laws of Switzerland, the fact that the Protocols were a forgery could not be the basis for banning them. Therefore this material continued to be circulated even in Switzerland.

It was brought out that in the very beginning the Protocols were circulated as something that "could" have been passed at some secret Jewish meeting. Only later was it specifically attributed to the World Zionist Congress in 1897. It was also discovered that at its inception the document was not presented as merely a Jewish document but as a conspiracy between Jews and Masons!

Adolf Hitler continued using the Protocols to justify the mass arrests of Jews on the ground that they were part of a racial conspiracy against Germany and the rest of the world. Once arrested, extermination soon followed for vast numbers of them while the remainder virtually starved to death in labor corps or concentration camps.

The Nazi terror against the Jews resulted in two migrations: one to Palestine where the Jewish population soon reached over a million, and one to the United States where the immigrants joined with the Jewish population which was already here and eventually rose to a total of over five million. The Jews in the United States then became the principle source of outside financial support for the Jews in Palestine. It was this combination of dedicated Jewish nation-builders in Palestine and the liberal financial support of the Jews in America that made much of Israel's success possible. Pages 285-289


I believe that those who spread the ‘Protocols of the Elders of Zion’ in Germany were accessories to the murder of 6 million men, women, and children. Hitler alone didn’t cause the hate that led to the holocaust. He needed tens of thousands of Germans to help spread those lies.

I dont know how many times I have to state to everyone I have this discussion with, that to oppose a wicked government is NOT spewing Antisemitism. My understanding of that word means that you are calling for an extermination of a whole race. Please, no one I have read so far has stated that feeling, but does seem to come to the same conclusion that I have been coming to which is: to ask questons about a wicked governments motives. This is not laying blame on the people as a whole. Why is that so hard to understand? But on that topic nonetheless, why has our government become so wicked? We have forgotten God. Well, in reality so have many of the Jews.

The bottom line is what evidence scripturally, as well as anything secular, is there that we must and should give to that Independent Nation our financial support and military aide when it is not sanctioned in our Constitution, nor can we afford it? That is the question that plagues me.

Where does this scripture say that we MUST lend our aid and where does it say that we were to restore them to their homelands. That word "restore" is not used...its "recover"...what should we have been tempting to recover them from?

1-3. Note that these three verses constitute one sentence! And it is a most complicated sentence in its modern, translated form. Nephi started to tell us about "many of the Gentiles" who would reject the Book of Mormon on the grounds that they already had the Bible, but he interrupted himself after the word "many," and inserted a parenthetical statement of 125 words! He wanted us to understand that the thing he was about to predict would happen in that day when God would remember His covenant with Israel and begin a second time to recover them. It would also be the day referred to by the Lord when He promised Nephi and Lehi that their descendants would receive the record which they and subsequent Nephite prophets would write. Nephi was told that his words (in the Book of Mormon) would hiss forth unto the ends of the earth and that they would be like a standard to rally God's people together again. But he said many of the Gentiles would resist the Book of Mormon, saying: "A Bible! A Bible! We have a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible."

4. Nephi recorded the Lord's personal rebuttal to all such talk. He tells them, in effect, "Yes, you have a Bible, but where did you get it?" The Lord answers His own question and says it came from the Jews which are part of God's ancient people. This means that they earned the privilege of coming to the earth through this lineage because of their diligence in the pre-existence (Deuteronomy 32:7-9). God asks whether the Gentiles have thanked the Jews for this wonderful Bible they boast of possessing. The Gentiles have been so busy blaming the Jews for the fact that some of the ancient leaders initiated the crucifixion of the Messiah that they have forgotten that other Jews (Christ's Apostles) went through the pains of many travails and the most arduous labors to carry the message of salvation to the Gentiles.

5. The Lord openly challenges the modern Gentile Christians. He asks if they have remembered the Jews and kept in mind that they are God's covenant people. Obviously, they have not. He says the Gentile Christians have cursed the Jews and hated them, and made no attempt to recover them.

Just to remind ourselves how literally this has been fulfilled, we might mention the treatment of the Jews at the time of the First Crusade. The misguided zeal of the Crusaders led them to identify the Jews as the "anti-Christ." Before setting out for Jerusalem, the Crusaders launched a campaign along the Rhine valley where they plundered and murdered the Jews until 12,000 men, women and children had perished. The second Crusade was almost as devastating to Jews in other areas.

Then, in 1348, the terrible plague, called the Black Death, spread across Europe. In England it swept away half the population. It was nearly as devastating on the continent of Europe. The Black Death was blamed on the Jews and soon recriminating mobs were venting their sorrow and hate by totally destroying sixty large Jewish communities and fifty smaller ones. England locked its ports against all Jews and only an occasional family living insecurely and clandestinely in some city like London could escape being exiled. Not until the seventeenth century did Jews win the right of domicile in England. At that time only 34 Jewish families (mostly of Spanish origin) were known to exist in London. (Howard M. Sachar, The Course of Modern Jewish History, p. 44)

On the Continent the Jews were politically disfranchised, excluded from owning land, prohibited from joining the guilds, and herded together into ghettos where they eked out a living as hawkers and petty traders. However, this did prove a blessing in the end. The Jews were compelled by these very circumstances to establish channels of communication, trade, and exchange which formed a network eventually extending around the world. When the crowned heads of Europe began to compete with each other for trade, they found themselves turning more and more to Jewish houses who knew how to make mercantilism work.

Soon Jewish money was financing industry, trade, colonial expansion and national treasures. In times of war, England, France, Germany, Italy and other European Gentile powers nearly always had to depend upon the private fortunes of wealthy Jewish families to build their armies. This brought emancipation and immense power to certain Jewish houses, but it left the masses of the Jews locked up each night in their respective ghettos. It was not until the Napoleonic wars that Jews began to be permitted to receive a few [page 1-283] of the basic rights of citizenship. Even these remained fragile, however, and as late as World War II several million Jews were exterminated under the Nazi doctrine of "Aryan race superiority."

6. Now the Lord continues his line of argument in which he reminds the Gentile Christians that the Bible they are so proud of possessing is something they obtained from another people and they would not have obtained a Bible "save it were by the JEWS ."

But the tribe of Judah will return to old Jerusalem [see Doctrine and Covenants 133:8, 13 , 35 ]. The city of Zion spoken of by David, in the one hundred and second Psalm, will be built upon the land of America, ‘And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads’ ( Isaiah 35:10 ); and then they will be delivered from the overflowing scourge that shall pass through the land. But Judah shall obtain deliverance at Jerusalem. See Joel 2:32 ; Isaiah 26:20 and 21 ; Jeremiah 31:12 ; Psalm 1:5 ; Ezekiel 34:11, 12 and 13 . These are testimonies that the Good Shepherd will put forth His own sheep, and lead them out from all nations where they have been scattered in a cloudy and dark day, to Zion, and to Jerusalem; besides many more testimonies which might be brought.”( History of the Church, 1:315.)

Both Cleon Skousen and Joseph Smith say that the Jews will be ‘recovered’ both as a nation and settle the Holy land and once there they will be ‘recovered’ spiritually. Before you can teach someone the gospel you first have to love them, not blame them for all the ills of the world. It’s kind of hard for the Jews to accept Christ when his representatives are preaching hatred against them as in many of your source liberty belle. It was Christians who caused most of the persecutions and death of millions of Jews. What a great missionary effort THAT was!

The second part of this prophecy is that not only shall "the Jews which are scattered begin to believe in Christ," but "they shall begin to gather in upon the face of the land;" that is, begin to gather to their promised land, to Palestine.

I remember that the British Consular reports of 1856, said that less than fifteen thousand Jews were in all Palestine. Twenty years later this number had increased to sixty-five thousand. Then came the Zionite movement, under the leadership of Dr. Herzal, supplemented later by the influence of Israel Zangwill, a Jewish writer of some note, and what is known as the "Zionite movement" received an impetus, and began to grow in the minds of the Jews until there began what we may now call the modern gathering together of the Jews in Palestine. The gathering is continuing. Millions of dollars have been subscribed by that people to establish their exiled brethren in the land of their fathers, and the ambition is to resume the national history of the Jewish people. That movement has grown until it has attained large proportions, and very wide interest in the world. This prophecy, then, is in course of fulfillment-"The Jews that are scattered are beginning to gather in upon the land of their forefathers, to the land of Palestine and to Jerusalem!"

We may pause here to ask what is the motive power, what is behind all this movement-this change in the mental attitude of that people towards Christ;-this gathering together of the Jews in Palestine? This is the explanation of it: In the Kirtland Temple, in 1835, Israel's great prophet, Moses, appeared to Joseph and Oliver Cowdery and delivered to them the keys of the gathering of Israel and the restoration of the Ten Tribes from the land of the North. In 1840, in pursuance of this work, an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, an apostle of this new dispensation, a Jew, by the way, was appointed by the Prophet Joseph to a special mission to the Holy Land, to Palestine, to dedicate that land for the gathering of the Jews to Jerusalem, and to bless the Jews with a disposition to return to their land and to their city. The mission of Orson Hyde is well known to the Latter-day Saints; how, under very great difficulties, trials and hardships, he made his way to Jerusalem, went to the summit of the Mount of Olives, and there wrote out a prayer that God put into his heart, dedicating the land of Palestine for the return of the Jews, and for the renewal of their national existence. That prayer-and it is a most wonderful prayer-has been published many times in our periodicals. It is published also in the History of the Church, which is derived chiefly from the office journal of the Prophet Joseph. Orson Hyde, returning from his mission when in Alexandria, also wrote to the Millennial Star of the then current date and there made a rather wonderful prediction. He said in substance that it was by political power that Judah had been broken and scattered abroad, and that it would be by the exercise of political power that Judah would be restored; and furthermore he declared that England would be the leading national power that would befriend Judah, and aid him in the re-establishment of his people in the land of Palestine. This was published in the Millennial Star of 1842, and may be found by those curious enough to seek for the source of this information.

That is the source of the power underlying the development of this great work. God is moving underneath all these facts-this changing of the mental attitude of Jews towards Jesus-this latter- day gathering of the Jews to the land and this city of their fathers.

It is interesting to note that the predictions of Orson Hyde, the man set apart to perform this special mission, in behalf of Judah, are being wonderfully fulfilled. The defeat of the Turks in the World War was by British forces under the English General Sir Edmund Allenby. The official entrance of General Allenby into Jerusalem on the 11th of December, 1917, and the subsequent course of England in respect of Palestine; the fact that Great Britain now holds the administration of the affairs of that land under the appointment of the League of Nations,-this fills out the story of Elder Orson Hyde's mission, and prophecy. The policy of England in respect to its administration of the affairs of Palestine as foreshadowed in the declaration by Lord Balfour when, on the 2nd of November, 1919, he said officially, and with the approval of France, Italy and President Wilson of the United States:

"His Majesty's Government view with favor the establishment in Palestine of a National home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object."

England has ever since consistently pursued that policy; and is now pursuing it.

The Jews having been restored to the Holy Land was through God’s hand and the help of the ‘nursing fathers’ of the Gentiles. After the Times of the Gentiles, which I believe is soon upon us, will come the Jews turn and they will have the gospel taught to them. Many are being ‘recovered’ spiritually presently around the world but the mission to the Jews won’t start in earnest until the gospel is taken from the Gentiles.
They are being recovered both as a nation as prophesied and spiritually as well.

Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Blasts UN Agency on ‘The Truth’ About Palestinian Refugees

In a new YouTube video called “The Truth About the Refugees,” Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon takes a sharp look at the Palestinian refugee problem, and blasts the UN agency tasked with aiding them and their descendants. Ayalon asks:

Why after more than 60 years are the Arab-Palestinian refugees still not welcomed and absorbed among their own brethren? And how could their numbers have grown from 500,000 to 4.7 million? The sad reality is that Palestinian refugees never had a chance. Attempts at resettlement were blocked by a variety of discriminatory laws enacted in Arab countries such as: a ban on receiving citizenship – with the exception of Jordan; blocking them from entering many professions; restrictions on owning land; restrictions on movement…

From Israel’s perspective, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, or UNRWA, with the encouragement of Arab states, has engaged in a highly political mission to perpetuate the refugee problem rather than finding a dignified solution for those living 63 years in substandard housing that is clearly no longer “temporary.” Ayalon quotes a former UNRWA director in Jordan Sir Alexander Galloway who said:

…the Arab nations do not want to solve the Arab refugee problem. They want to keep it as an open sore…as a weapon against Israel.”

He also asks why the UN formed an entirely separate bureaucracy to aid Palestinian refugees, when all other refugees are handled by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR):

The answer is, because while the United Nations’ central refugee agency helps refugees resettle, the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency helps perpetuate their status by applying unique criteria…Refugees lose their status after receiving citizenship from a recognized country – Palestinians do not. Refugees cannot transmit their status from generation to generation. Palestinian refugees can.

Arab states are all too willing to obstruct any livable arrangement for these mostly impoverished Palestinians by withholding citizenship, preventing moves to more adequate dwellings, and feeding the dream of their future “return” to their purported homes in Israel. Homes, it should be added, that many never actually saw since they were born years after the 1948 and 1967 Arab-Israeli wars.

Now, even their grandchildren and great-grandchildren are granted refugee status by UNRWA and are daily fed the myth Israelis will eventually, after a violent struggle, vacate their homes leading to a so-called “return” of those who weren’t even born in 1948.

Instead of encouraging the refugees to move forward with their lives constructively, UNRWA – ceding to Arab state policies – has set up a massive bureaucracy predicated on handouts to the poor and perpetuating the problem, rather than acknowledging reality and allowing them to attempt financially-independent lives.

Ayalon explains in his video that there were more Jewish refugees – 850,000 – forced from Arab states than the estimated 500,000 Arabs who fled their homes in 1948. Also by contrast, the Jews were allowed to build free lives in Israel and were never granted refugee status. Ayalon is himself the son of a Jew who was forced to leave Algeria.

Ayalon’s first two videos on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the West Bank went viral. The Israeli Foreign Ministry hopes this one will also be widely viewed, offering the public a perspective not widely disseminated by the mainstream media, which like UNRWA tends to report on the issue without pointing to the basic logical complication – how can someone who was born decades after an armed conflict be considered a refugee?

Abbas primes West Bank for "Palestinian Resistance" (Third Intifada)

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas kicked off preparations for a fresh outbreak of anti-Israel "resistance" – which concerned US and Israeli security circles believe will develop into "Intifada No. 3" – Tuesday, Dec. 27, by suddenly firing, the West Bank's top security officer Maj. Gen. Diab el-Ali. He did not notify US Lt. Gen. Michael R. Moeller, the American Security Coordinator between Israel and the PA appointed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Israel's military coordinator, Maj. Gen. Eitan Dangot, of this step which caught them unawares.

Palestinian military intelligence chief, Maj. Gen. Nidal Dokhan, was appointed to replace Maj. Gen. el-Ali.

DEBKAfile's military sources in Washington and Jerusalem report that in both capitals, the Palestinian leader's action is seen as paving the way for radical changes in West Bank security. This fragile edifice was kept stable for some years thanks to joint US-Israeli-Palestinian efforts to back up peaceful relations between the Palestinians and Israel after the bloody years of the "Al Aqsa Intifada" terror.

Abbas (Abu Mazen) has now decided to upset this equilibrium by orchestrating an Arab Spring-style uprising on the West Bank, the differences being that the Palestinians will not rise up against their own leaders, i.e., himself, but against Israel, and that in no time this event is liable to revert to the "intifada"-style Palestinian terrorist violence of the early 2000s.

Four actions leading up to these steps have aroused trepidation:

1. Abbas's deal in Cairo last week with the extremist Hamas leader Khaled Meshal is one. The two rivals agreed that notwithstanding their differences they would go forward on common objectives.
For example, Meshaal sought the resurgence of armed resistance against Israel which Abbas opposes. They compromised on a "popular resistance" campaign of protracted mass demonstrations which would smash through the defense barrier dividing the West Bank from Israel, knocking over IDF checkpoints and storming en masse into Israel. The "demonstrators" would also march on and burst into Jewish civilian settlements.

2. For this campaign to succeed, it is necessary to redefine the functions of the eight Palestinian commando battalions of the Palestinian National Security Forces-PNSF, soon to be joined by two more just ending their training in Jordan.

The PNSF was created and is funded by the United States, while British and Jordanian military instructors train its 8,000 combatants.

To make sure the Palestinian "uprising" does not turn against the Palestinian Authority and himself, Abbas will place these military battalions at the forefront of the mass demonstrations. They are to lead the throngs to their points of confrontation with Israel.

The PA chairman is therefore highhandedly retooling the armed Palestinian force, which was painstakingly created by the United States, to make it a hammer for confronting Israel's armed forces and civilians on both sides of the Green Line.

3. Abbas fired Gen. Diab el-Ali because he worked productively with the American coordinating unit for four years, from the day the first battalion was formed. His successor Maj. Gen. Dokhan is regarded in Western security circles as a shadowy figure of the undercover world.

The difference between them is that while Gen. Diab el-Ali is trusted in Washington and Jerusalem as genuinely and uncompromisingly willing to combat an upsurge of terror and Hamas extremism on the West Bank, the same cannot be said of the new man. Gen. Dokhan maintains good relations with US and Israel officers but also stands well with the heads of the radical Hamas and Jihad Islami.

Neither US nor Israeli commanders would risk sharing sensitive intelligence with him lest it reach the wrong hands. His appointment therefore as the senior officer on the West Bank is seen as the beginning of the end of the successful military and intelligence cooperation the US crafted between Israel and the Palestinian Authority for combating West Bank terrorism and presaging the return of the pro-terror Palestinian organizations.

This is what Khaled Meshaal was driving at Tuesday, Dec. 27, when he said his accord with Mahmoud Abbas had ushered in a new era of Palestinian cooperation after "Hamas forces on the West Bank were eradicated in recent years."

4. In intensive consultations this week, DEBKAfile's sources report that US and Israeli security officials were of the opinion that the security changes Abbas is molding will have the effect of destroying the security stability the West Bank has enjoyed under US-backed Palestinians Authority rule. After opening the door to the radical Palestinian organizations, the PA will soon lose control as Hamas and Jihad Islami ride into the enclave's towns and villages. Any demonstrations will soon get out of hand and descend into violent turmoil.

At the same, time, those security officials estimate that it will take Abbas up to two months to remodel the Palestinian PNSF for its newly designated mission.

HOW THE LORD LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE JEWS

In 1832, Joseph Smith placed his hands on the head of a clerk in Newel K. Whitney's store at Kirtland, Ohio, and said: "In due time thou shalt go to Jerusalem, the land of thy fathers, and be a watchman unto the house of Israel; and by thy hands shall the Most High do a great work, which shall prepare the way and greatly facilitate the gathering together of that people."( History of the Church 4:375.)

Nothing happened, however, until 1840. Orson Hyde was lying awake one night wondering where he might be assigned to go on a mission. All the brethren were being sent to some type of mission and he was speculating on where his call would be. Suddenly he saw great "clouds of light" before him. Then he began to see several large cities. First he saw London, then Amsterdam. Next he saw Constantinople and then Jerusalem. Orson Hyde was told the following:

"Here are many of the children of Abraham whom I will gather to the land that I gave their fathers; and here also is the field of your labors."( History of the Church 4:375-376.) Elder Hyde was instructed to say this to the Jewish people everywhere: "Set up the standard towards Zion -- retire not, stay not.... The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way."( History of the Church 4:375-376.) In this vision, which lasted six hours, Orson Hyde saw himself alone on the Mount of Olives. He saw himself writing a prayer of dedication instead of speaking it. He also saw many other things which he says, "I have never written; neither shall I write them until they are fulfilled in Jerusalem."( History of the Church 4:375-376.)

A short time after this vision, Orson Hyde and John E. Page were instructed to proceed on a mission "to the Jews," and to dedicate Palestine for the restoration of the house of Israel. The two of them proceeded to the East where they began their mission among the Jewish people in Philadelphia and New York City. When Orson Hyde was ready to move on to London, John E. Page said he had to wait and earn more money before he could make the trip. This delayed Orson Hyde. On January 15, 1841, Joseph Smith published the following in the Times and Seasons: "Elders Orson Hyde and John E. Page are informed that the Lord is not well pleased with them, in consequence of delaying their mission, and they are requested by the First Presidency to hasten their journey towards their destination."

By June, 1841, Orson Hyde decided to sail alone if necessary. By this time John E. Page had sufficient funds for the trip, but his enthusiasm for this mission had wilted within him. Elder George Albert Smith instructed John E. Page to be ready to leave in two days, but Page refused to respond. He later returned to Nauvoo and apostatized from the Church. Orson Hyde therefore sailed to England alone.

In all the principal Jewish centers of Europe, Orson Hyde sought out the leading rabbis to tell them of his mission and bear his testimony. Many of them viewed his words with great interest. However, as Orson Hyde made his way toward Jerusalem (traveling without purse or script), he endured many an ordeal which would have smothered the faith of a weaker man. Concerning his journey, Orson Hyde wrote: "I have not time to tell you how many days I have been at sea without food, or how many snails I have eaten."( History of the Church 4:455.) In Syria he found a war of extermination being fought between Catholics and Moslems. On one occasion a typhus plague broke out among those with whom Orson Hyde was traveling, but he continued his journey unharmed.

After arriving in Jerusalem he found it to contain around 20,000 inhabitants, of whom 7,000 were Jewish. He wrote: "I have only time to say that I have seen Jerusalem precisely according to the vision which I had. I saw no one with me in the vision; and although Elder Page was appointed to accompany me there, yet I found myself there alone."( History of the Church 4:455.)

Long before daybreak on Sunday, October 24, 1841, he arose and as soon as the gate in the east wall was opened, he crossed Brook Kidron and ascended the Mount of Olives which lies to the east of the city. By the time it was light he proceeded to do exactly as the vision had revealed it. He says: "... there, in solemn silence, with pen, ink and paper, just as I saw in the vision, (I) offered up the following prayer...." The contents of the prayer included:

1. A dedication of the whole land for the "gathering together of Judah."

2. And for the rebuilding of Jerusalem.

3. And the rebuilding of the great Temple.

4. He prayed that the whole land might "become abundantly fruitful, when possessed by its rightful heirs."

5. He prayed that any Gentile nations which lifted its hand to restore the Jews might "find favor in thy sight."

After writing this prayer, Orson Hyde erected a pile of stones "as a witness according to the ancient custom." He also erected a similar mound on the place where the temple had once stood.

Thanks for the excellent reads in the posts on Israel. I believe, as a nation, we have "run faster than we have strength" in our supposed position of greatness concerning world affairs. I recall Pres. Hinckley stating something to the effect there were reasons for going to war and one of those reasons is in the defense of oppressed people. But, it was my understanding, those people should want and ask for our assistance. I need to search through his addresses to find more particular wording. That being said, as a nation we have flung about our resources with an abandon that makes us currently useless in going to any defense. Only by further decimating ourselves do we prop up the image of being the defender of the oppressed. We have abandoned ourselves in large measure for the pride of our worldwide image.

Brian M's article is an important article and we need to try to understand the full import of the statements quoted. Maintaining our national independence can only be achieved by remaining strong within. We seem to forget wise counsel such as Winston Churchhill's when he stated, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." In the Book of Mormon there is a great conflict story concerning a man named Captain Moroni--leading the Nephites in battle--and the leader of his country, Pahoran. When it appeared Pahoran could be following unprincipled behavior, Moroni sent him correspondence telling him he would bring his armies and clean out the heart of his country first before engaging the enemy on the outside. This is our largest downfall. We have long let go of principled behavior to the point it is difficult to even understand what that principled behavior should be. Until we return to principled behavior, we will have no "big stick" to carry. A nation that has impoverished itself cannot defend anyone. Further, our founding fathers clearly discouraged "unholy" alliances. Any alliance to the detriment of our own nation and its particular protection of the individual's liberty is not in keeping with this counsel.

We have not only impoverished ourselves financially, we have impoverished ourselves as regarding integrity--in every definition of the word. Christ gave the example--we refuse to understand it.

PA Mufti: Muslims' destiny is to kill Jews

Last week, the principal Palestinian Authority religious leader, the Mufti Muhammad Hussein, presented the killing of Jews by Muslims as a religious Islamic goal. At an event celebrating the 47th anniversary of the founding of Fatah, he cited the Hadith (Islamic tradition attributed to Muhammad) saying that the Hour of Resurrection will not come until Muslims fight the Jews and kill them:

"The Hour [of Resurrection] will not come until you fight the Jews.
The Jew will hide behind stones or trees.
Then the stones or trees will call:
'Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.'"

Palestinian Media Watch reported regularly during the PA terror campaign (Intifada, 2000-2005) on the repeated use of this Hadith by PA clerics on official PA TV to motivate Palestinians to terror attacks, preaching that Muslims had an Islamic obligation to kill Jews. The fact that the Mufti quotes this now indicates that this may have remained part of the PA's religious establishment's teachings, even though it is less frequently promoted on PA TV.

The last time official PA TV broadcast a sermon during which this Hadith calling to kill Jews was quoted was in 2010.

The years of PA promotion of killing Jews and PA religious leaders' citing this Hadith to justify it, may have contributed to the high acceptance of it in PA society. A poll sponsored by the Israel Project last year found that 73% of Palestinians "believe" this Hadith. [July 2011, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner.]

The moderator who introduced the Mufti at the Fatah event last week reiterated another Islamic belief; that the Jews are the descendants of apes and pigs:

"Our war with the descendants of the apes and pigs (i.e., Jews) is a war of religion and faith."

The Mufti did not distance himself from this hate statement that Islam is in a religious war with the Jews, but added to it that Islam's goal is to kill Jews.

There are numerous collections of Hadith, some of which are not accepted as reliable. However, the Mufti stressed that the Islamic belief that Jews will be killed by Muslims as a precursor to Resurrection, is an authentic Islamic belief because it appears in "the reliable" and trusted Hadith collections of Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

This Islamic tradition asserts that as the killing of Jews will progress, Jews will hide behind stones and trees, but even they will expose the Jews and call out: "Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him." One tree however, called the Gharqad, will hide the Jews from the Muslims. The Mufti in his talk at the Fatah event claimed that in response to this Islamic belief, Israelis have been planting Gharqad trees around their cities and towns, in order to have a place to hide from the Muslims who will be coming to kill them.

This is not the first time the Mufti has incited to hatred against Jews in the name of Islam. In a sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 2010, he preached that the Jews are the "enemies of Allah."

The Mufti is appointed by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. He voiced this latest hate speech, that Jews are to be killed by Muslims, at an official Fatah celebration. Abbas is also the Chairman of Fatah.

The following is an excerpt from the Fatah ceremony broadcast on PA TV:

PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein comes to the podium and says:

"47 years ago the [Fatah] revolution started. Which revolution? The modern revolution of the Palestinian people's history. In fact, Palestine in its entirety is a revolution, since [Caliph] Umar came [to conquer Jerusalem, 637 CE], and continuing today, and until the End of Days. The reliable Hadith (tradition attributed to Muhammad), [found] in the two reliable collections, Bukhari and Muslim, says: "The Hour [of Resurrection] will not come until you fight the Jews.

The Jew will hide behind stones or trees.
Then the stones or trees will call:
'Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.'
Except the Gharqad tree [which will keep silent]."
Therefore it is no wonder that you see Gharqad [trees]
surrounding the [Israeli] settlements and colonies.."

Azerbaijan foils Iranian-Hizballah terror strike against Israel targets and Habad

Habad Baku leaders targeted by Iranian-Hizballah terrorists

A Hizballah cell backed by intelligence from Tehran and external Iranian terror cells in Turkey, Bulgaria, Georgia and Armenia, was captured in Baku on Jan. 19 by Azerbaijan's National Security Ministry (MNS) officers as it was about to launch a series of attacks on the Israeli embassy, Chief Rabbi Shneor Segal and Rabbi Mati Lewis at the Habad center and visiting Israel personages.

DEBKAfile's counter-terror sources disclose that two of the Hizballah cell members live permanently in Baku. The third, who resides in Tehran, was recruited by Iranian intelligence to lead the Hizballah operation, which was the first joint Iranian-Hizballah terrorist attack ever discovered.

In its sights too were the former Israeli chief of staff Gaby Ashkenazi who was due to visit to the Azerbaijan capital and several local high officials who work with the United States and Israel. They were suspected by Tehran of helping the US and Israel set up an attack on Iran from Azerbaijan.

The two Habad figures are Israeli-born heads of the Jewish community in Baku and the Ohr Avner Chabad Jewish Day School.

The cell was rounded up just weeks after a Hizballah terrorist strike against the local Habad center was preempted in Bangkok, thanks to Thai-Israeli counter-terror cooperation. There, Hizballah had intended to take hostages and blow up the Habad headquarters, aping al Qaeda's 2009 outrage in Mumbai.

Israel's Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz had this to say Tuesday, Jan. 24: "We stand guard over the nation's security in near and distant arenas. Our borders appear calm. But at the very time that our enemies in the north avoid striking us for fear of painful punishment, Hizballah and other hostile elements are making every effort to bring off savage terrorist attacks against Israelis and the Jewish people in far places."

The general added: "I advise them not to test our resolve."

Gantz was referring to the constant Hizballah efforts to avenge the assassination of Imad Mughniyeh, the terrorist group's special security chief, on Feb. 12, 2008 in Damascus, and Iran's threats following the death of the Iranian nuclear scientist Prof. Mostafa Ahamdi-Roshan on Jan. 11 in Tehran.

Hizballah and Iran both attributed the attacks to Israel.

Our sources can identify the Hizballah terror cell's Baku chief as an Iranian Azeri by the name of Balaqardash Dadashov and the two local operatives as Rasim Aliyev and Ali Huseynov. Found in their possession were guns and explosives said to have been delivered to them by smugglers from Iran, although DEBKAfile's counter-terror sources say they entered Azerbaijan from Armenia.

The operation leader Balaqardash arrived from Tehran with a file full of photos of the targeted Israeli figures, plans of the buildings to be attacked, and maps as well as $9,300 to cover the costs of the preparations. Each of the terrorists was promised a fee of $150,000.
