transcript of Holland's Hole in the rock talk...
Just got my ensign this weekend. I noticed that the talk Elder Holland gave at last fall's Regional Conference in Provo regarding the hole in the rock pioneers (and the muddy mission) is in this month's ensign. Great talk!

It was president Packer's talk following Elder Holland that contained the real message! Elder Holland's talk was the set up for President Packer. Read all three talks!

I'm not aware of any links--I'll second that bob.
STL--my brother went to this conference, which spawned a conference call for our family re preparations.
He said that when Elder Holland finished his talk, Elder Packer got up and said (with reference to Holland's talk), "the easy days are over."
This link is a discussion of that regional conference:

After commenting upon Elder Hollands talk about the terrible difficulties the pioneers faced---Three times, President Packer repeated "It's going to be harder!"
Good thing we're prepared!

Yes, the first talk was by another General Authority, and his name escapes me right at the moment, then Elder Holland, followed by President Packer. The first two talks were about the difficulties the pioneers faced. President Packer then commented on the stories from the first two talks, and told us three times in his talk "it's going to be harder!" I believe the last time he used that phrase he said "it's going to get harder!" He paused each time to let the phrase sink in.
I've been trying to find copies of all three talks, I know they're out there----

Re: transcript of Holland's Hole in the rock talk...
I watched the conference after it happened and I remember President Packer saying exactly what Bob is sharing. It is what really stuck out to me. That and the fact that it wasn't all pioneers that Elder Holland talked about. But that we were going to have it harder than the Hole in the rock pioneers. And they went through hell.

Rock-Ribbed Faith
By GG Vandagriff
"In a recent talk broadcast to the stakes in Utah Valley, President Boyd K. Packer and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland had a special message for us. Elder Holland started by talking of the faith of the pioneers to do whatever they were asked. In a stirring narrative of the pioneers who dug out a pathway through the sheer rock passageway in south central Utah in order to fulfill their mission to colonize a particular area, he gave us an example of what he called "rock-ribbed" faith. "When you're called to go, you go." ....
When President Packer began to speak, he startled me to the soles of my feet by saying, "From now on it's going to be rougher than the pioneers had it." Though he and Elder Holland had not planned it, their talks built on each other, proving to me that they were inspired by the Spirit to give us the same message. "Easy times are in the past," he said. "Humbly confess to the Lord that you will do things His way. The days of the Hole in the Rock were easy times compared to what faces you."
These were very sobering talks, completely unlike a normal Stake Conference. The message that things are only going to get worse is not one you usually hear from the Brethren.
