An impression I had this morning regarding temple work

I totally agree with you and that's why this is so frustrating. I feel like a player trying to get the coach to let me in so I can just play the freak'n game.

LET'S DO THIS ALREADY!!!!!
This struck me because earlier today I got an impression...it really had nothing to do with the other thread, but the sports analogy reminded me of the earlier impression, and I thought I would toss it out there.

The impression was that our kindred dead who do not have their work done probably feel like players on the sidelines - they probably want to be more involved in what is going on, and are being held back due to their work not being done. They are likely expressing much this same sentiment - "Come on coach! Send me in! I'm READY!"

Remember that we fight not against the powers of this world but against the dark powers of the spiritual realm. Could it be possible that as we bring salvation to those waiting for their work to be done, that they are then enabled to bring salvation to us, by aiding us in our battle against these dark forces. I have always understoood the part about turning the hearts of the children to the fathers, but not so much the turning of the hearts of the fathers to the children. I have seen some apply that to mortality - i.e. fathers need to properly care for their children - and while I agree with the sentiment it never seemed to be what was meant in the scripture - it jsut never felt right to me. And this seemed to click into place that we need to turn the hearts of our ancestors to us. I am not advocating ancestor worship, but I can't help that having their hearts turned to us may be what keeps the Lord from smiting the earth with a curse...

I love those moments when something clicks into place.

Col: My wife and I did a self evaluation near the end of 2010. We both realized that our grade on Family History Research was F. We decided then to take a month and go to St. George FHC. We took about 24 courses in that month. Caught the Spirit of Eligah. We just got called to be FHE advisors and spend Tuesday nights in the Stake FHC. I feel that the way for most procrastinators like me to get excited and off our behinds is by becoming Indexers. Ino can be found at familyserach.org. Try it you'll like it.

I have the same thoughts. We are not in this battle alone. Both sides are working together and the more temple work we do, the more priesthood holder and mothers we have to fight the good fight.

Excellent post! Is there any scriptural information on the powers granted to those on the other side once the temple work has been done for them? I'm going to ask this question on another board and see what type of answers I get.

Thanks OI. I appreciate you!

I have no scriptural information - it was just an impression and then your post reminded me of it. Thanks for your kind comments. I look forward to any further light, scriptural or otherwise, that anyone can share.

Food for thought. Assuming the folks on the other sdie are Terrestial Glory potentials, they will be in one of the resurrections that occur in the Millenium.. not the first. Then they will be able to talk to us face to face. As to helping us now, I've heard many stories of about this happening from the more spiritual saints I know. As to scriptural or GA support, I have none that I can think of right now. Sorry

There is a new publication from the Church called, "To Turn the Hearts". It has the following statement...

"The turning of hearts signifies a spiritual awakening as individuals and families serve their deceased relatives and experience the joy of being active participants in a fundamental part of Heavenly Father's plan of salvation. Participation in temple and family history work touches the sould as the Holy Ghost bears witness to the eternal nature of families."

and

"Members who engage in this work are inspired to live gospel-center lives and are more likely to participate in personal and family prayer, personal and family scripture study, and regular family home evening, personal and family scripture study, and regular family home evening. Typically, where the number of members participating in temple and family history is high, there is also higher participation in all other Church meetings."

Over the years, I have found that you receive increased spiritual sensitivity and blessings from researching your own family history. I do not understand why more people do not do this. In order to become "Saviors on Mount Zion" we must do the research and temple work for our ancestors....there is no other way.

So, OI, I agree...I think they are sitting and waiting in the sidelines for us to get up and move. I believe we will come under great condemnation if we fail to fulfill this commandment. And that holds true for those who come from pioneer stock. I'll bet that there's going to be bigger push this next conference for this work to move forward. Temples names for baptisms are down, which means that the names for endowments are down also. The time may come that only those that bring their own family names will be able to attend the temple....who knows?

ZO: I could be wrong here but I think the only names brought for work were family names in the early Church. Maybe we indeed go back. If so, I better get real busy with my family history research. :-B
