Amore: Right on. So to get righteous change that lasts is using fear anytime an effective method?

Not sure, for would we consider fear a factor in Alma the Younger & the Sons of Mosiah's change & repentance, after they were startled by an Angel who threatened them with destruction?

I think all those in Spirit Prison paying for their sins may experience a deep sense of fear to have to suffer so greatly for their sins, along with the remorse that their sins caused them.

Fear may be a part of helping a person see the need to repent, but not necessarily a sure thing always on this earth. For obviously some repent from seeing an Angel & some do not.

The scriptures say that to be compelled to be humble or the 'fear of death & hell' will sometimes cause people to repent but not 'everyone', some are just too past feeling to feel even fear I guess.

What do you think?

Amore: I think fear can sometimes be an effective "wake up" call to get one out of his/her comfort zone. This is called in Change Theory, "unfreezing a person." But for lasting change to occur two further steps are needed. One is to replace incorrect attidudes/behavior with productive/righteous ones. If this isn't done, the effc ets of fear soon dissapte. Last is to "refreeze the new behaviors/attidtudes." IMO, fear will never work the 2nd and certaingly not the 3rd step. The 2nd step in a Gospel sense MUST be embedded in love.

Some people confuse the influence of the "light of Christ" with influence from the Holy Ghost.

I was once saved from some apparently corrupt men because of a very strong prompting to get out of the area IMMEDIATELY and was given an understanding of what they might do to my ex husband and me if we stayed. I had no reason to come up with these feelings on my own and there was no apparent reason to fear these men in the situation. But that is what I was told. There was no warm fuzzy, it was almost an "order", and as I said - a fearful understanding of the possible consequences if we did not leave immediately.

+1 Good example. Though I think its really not all that important whether the Holy Ghost instills the fear or our reaction to the prompting is fear. Point is sometimes we feel fear because of a prompting and its good communication. I think we can all agree on that? Ive heard that sometimes when we get a bad feeling its actually our Angel's that tell us we have reason to fear and though we dont know where it comes from it is coming from them. So would that mean they are part of the Holy Ghost? I know this discussion started going on else where but Im starting to wonder if the Holy Ghost is what I always thought. Or if its more than that.
