Adam-ondi-Ahman Misconception?

Post by durangout »

One thing I've never understood: In D7C 117:7-8 it says ONLY that Adam dwelt at Adam-ondi-Ahman. There is no mention of the garden of eden or how long he dwelt there for that matter. Other than a very possible misconception / false tradition, why it is assumed that the garden of eden was near there? There is no scriptural evidence of this. As far as we know, the garden of eden could've been on the other side of the planet.

Durango: Sorry but I don't KNOW 100%. The best thing IMO is to look in that AOA AREA for the rivers and other descriptions given in the Bible. Even that may NOT help because the earth was greatly transformed in the days of Peleg.

But, where was the Endowment movie made? In Utah mountains so that MUST be the real Garden of Eden. :D

Brigham Young said Joseph Smith taught it....
Brigham's history records he told Orson Hyde (who had been to Palestine):

"You have been both to Jerusalem and Zion, and seen both. I have not seen either, for I have never been in Jackson County. Now it is a pleasant thing to think of and to know where the Garden of Eden was. Did you ever think of it? I do not think many do, for in Jackson County was the Garden of Eden. Joseph has declared this, and I am as much bound to believe that as to believe that Joseph was a prophet of God."

(Brigham Young in Journal History of the Church (15 March 1857); cited in John A. Widtsoe, Evidences and Reconciliations: Aids to Faith in a Modern Day, arranged by G. Homer Durham (Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1960), 396.)

Like: I thought one of the past Prophets had said that but I read so much I often forget where I read it. Thanks for doing the research.

FWIW, my wife and I spent some time there a few years ago. I figured I better go there just in acse I was called to the AOA meeting. ;)

If you'll get a chance, it is worth a visit there. There are full-time senior missionary couples keeping it in shape for the future Counsel. When GBH was still living, the Mission Presdient reported directly to him. Super imporatant.
