New from Missouri

Hi, I'm new here and I'm really enjoying what I've seen so far.

SUMMARY OF ME:
Born in the church, served mission in Brazil ('02 - '04), graduated from BYU-Idaho in '08 with an English degree. My wife is a stay-at-home mom and we have two little boys.

Did a three-month internship at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC to see what that was all about after college and then got the heck out of there. Now working in Missouri in the hotel industry.

Went from admiring Che Guevara in high school (seduced by the adventure more than knowing his politics) to being converted to conservatism through the Book of Mormon, to supporting Mitt Romney in 2008, to thinking it's all corrupted anyway so why bother.

I am in the middle of nasty litigation from a former employer due to a non-compete contract (he lies during depositions and on the stand) after doing very good work for them in the hotel industry. In the following job, I was threatened by my LDS boss (bishop in Utah who commuted to Missouri every other week) that he'd try to recover all money from me for paying for an attorney to defend me even though he promised it was part of my compensation ($20k in legal fees) after I quit when I found out he had lied to me about several things. Although I did not have new work lined up, on principle I quit the job a couple weeks ago and I'm in the middle of a job search at the moment.

In short, I have had my eyes opened more and more over the last three years since I did the internship at the UN and also witnessed the control and power games being played in a small Missouri community. If people act that way on such a small level, I can imagine how terrible it could be in national politics and in multinational organizations. Anything is possible to those seeking power, even Mormons unfortunately. I tend to be an optimist and like to trust people, but I've been finding that more and more difficult with all of the experiences I've been having.

I look forward to talking to everyone on the forums. Thank you for letting me join in.

Very much welcome. It sounds like you have been through some tough challenges, but also have had a opportunity to learn a lot because of those challenges.

Be great to hear more from you. (There is another poster here called give_me_liberty, but I haven;t seen many posts from him for a while, FYI)
