Brigham Young:

Whosoever confesseth that Joseph Smith was sent of God to reveal the holy Gospel to the children of men, and lay the foundation for gathering Israel, and building up the kingdom of God on the earth, that spirit is of God; and every spirit that does not confess that God has sent Joseph Smith, and revealed the everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Antichrist, no matter whether it is found in a pulpit or on a throne. [JD 8:176–77]

Anyone have any thoughts on this quote? Quite direct.

Reminds me of what Nephi said about there being two churches only. One of the Lamb of God, and the other of the Devil.

That's not the same as AntiChrist. I'm thinking that to be AntiChrist one has to know the truth about Him. There are many very good people on the earth today who don't have a testimony of Joseph Smith, who have never been touched by the Spirit testifying of his truthfullness as a prophet. They have done many good works and follow the gosple to the best of their ability. So I just don't see how they can be AntiChrist. In fact, those people I used as an example will be much better off come judgement day than most members of The Church I would guess.

I guess my bottom line to answer Reese's question is that I think BY was incorrect in his statement above.
