(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The United States may consider sending troops into Libya with a possible international ground force that could aid the rebels, according to the general who led the military mission until NATO took over.

Army Gen. Carter Ham also told lawmakers Thursday that added American participation would not be ideal, and ground troops could erode the international coalition and make it more difficult to get Arab support for operations in Libya.
U.S. involvement has nothing to do with humanitarian help - it has to do with Libya's light, sweet crude. I guess this is what Obama meant when he said he would bring the troops home before being elected. =)) :ymblushing:

Speaking of the game....be interesting to see if the action in Israel will kick off tonight as anticipated. Once we are mired in ground conflict (and support of ground troops - thus tying down what might otherwise be mobile support units like aircraft carriers).....it will be interesting to see if Iran or China via N.Korea proxy take it to another level. One would be hardly remiss in condemning them for seizing a perfect opportunity.

An Iran/Saudi altercation while N.Korea/S.Korea go toe to toe....all while Iraq, Afghanistan/Pakistan, and now Libya conflicts rage.....all while Japan crumbles and the military is trying to evacuate and shift out of that theatre......price of oil would go out of sight causing demand collapse and striking the death blow to the nail on the coffin. Icing on the cake could be India and Pakistan opening up with nukes on each other.

Meanwhile Russia/China sit on the sidelines and fuel the proxy battles. Top it off with ever increasing natural disasters, radiation, disease, plague, etc.

What better way to get the United States to "spend her strength and means warring in foreign lands...[and] fight until one half of the U. S. army will give up, and the rest will continue to struggle....until they are very ragged and discouraged, and almost ready to give up--when the boys from the mountains will rush forth in time to save the American Army from defeat and ruin." (See Mosiah Hancock autobiography)

My thoughts exactly, lundbaek. Prophecy being fulfilled right before our eyes.
