The Sword of Justice

Post by clarkkent14 »

"Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain—and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be."

Any insights into what this means? What does the "Sword of Justice" represent?

I have pondered this as well, to no end yet. I hope someone else can add insight.

A sword is not something peaceful. A sword is a weapon, it means what it sounds like it means. Read in 3 Nephi 9:9 and see what happened to Jacobugath.

So, Steve, tie this in with the Temple if you would.

The answers I have found are in the BOM... especially 1 Nephi, in several chapters.

Sword of Justice?

Read 3 Nephi 5-7 about infiltration, subversion and collapse of government
Read Joel 1-3 of the invading northern/heathen armies
Read Rev 18: 6-11 about the Burning of Babylon
Read Pres. George Albert Smith Vision about WW3

Bruce R. McConkie, "Stand Independent above All Other Creatures", Ensign, May 1979, 92
It may be, for instance, that nothing except the power of faith and the authority of the priesthood can save individuals and congregations from the atomic holocausts that surely shall be.

Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, vol. 18, p. 339
“We read that the four beasts, representing the powers of the earth, will exist at the time of the coming of the Ancient of Days. And that the fourth beast, represented by the Roman Empire and the kingdoms that have grown out of it, will be "slain and his body destroyed and given to the burning flame." Here then we can read the destiny of that portion of the inhabitants of the earth constituting the fourth beast: or, in other words, the destiny of the kingdoms of Europe, who were to arise and grow out of that fourth power… Not only the kingdoms and governments of Europe, and the western portion of Asia are to be thus visited, but also those who have grown out of these kingdoms, and that have emigrated to this western hemisphere, and elsewhere. For instance, this great republic must pass away in the manner indicated unless the people repent”

Elder Ezra Taft Benson, Conference Report, October 1961, Afternoon Meeting, p.69-70
The great destructive force which was to be turned loose on the earth and which the prophets for centuries have been calling the "abomination of desolation" is vividly described by those who saw it in vision. Ours is the first generation to realize how literally these prophecies can be fulfilled now that God, through science, has unlocked the secret to thermonuclear reaction.

What did God place before the tree of life after Adam was cast out? Ponder on that for a bit ;)

Lift your head above this hokey pokey. Katrina... 9/11... The prophets have made it absolutely clear that we live in a great and prosperous time. Humbling episodes? Sure. But nobody in their right mind would trade today's prosperity for that 100, 200, 500, or even 50 years ago.

I say thank the Good Lord for all His bounteous blessings rather than spending a lifetime blogging and posting about how afraid you are to lose them. That's being material and worshiping the idol. We wouldn't want to idol worship, would we?

The hymnbook tells it all:

Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The Happy Day at Last Has Come

“32: The Happy Day at Last Has Come,” Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, no. 32

Brightly

1. The happy day at last has come.
The truth restored is now made known.
The promised angel’s come again
To introduce Messiah’s reign.

2. The gospel trump again is heard.
The truth from darkness has appeared.
The lands which long benighted lay
Have now beheld a glorious day:

3. The day by prophets long foretold,
The day which Abram did behold,
The day that Saints desired so long,
When God his great work would perform,

4. The day when Saints again shall hear
The voice of Jesus in their ear,

And angels, who above do reign,
Come down to speak again with men.

Brightly now.

FYI, it's a Book of Mormon quote. (but you already knew that)

Sure, we've had years of plenty, but to say there's nothing to worry about what's going on now and in the near future, is not wise. (That's what I'm interpreting your post to mean). President GBH likened our time now to 7 years of plenty and 7 years of famine. Maybe we disagree to some extent to what the level of threat this country is in from within/without today, but to dismiss the threats as nothing worth noting, is foolish IMO.

Love it. As I see it this is explained in Alma 42.

The sword is the justice of God. If we do not repent, and offer our whole souls, in effect coming to the mercy seat guarded by Cherubim, then we must face the sword of Gods Justice, as we will be denied the mercy that is extended. In this passage, the combinations are in direct opposition to the will of God, and prevent God from withholding his Justice any longer.

I think we are beginning to see it.

So Jason/Mummy:

You've got a face I certainly don't recognize. I don't go looking for scary stuff. Kind of takes away from the Spirit, ya know? So who's your new love idol?
