Quotes to remember for Conference
I had saved these quotes previously, and run across them again. When we are wanting to hear more about the wickedness of the world, and last day happenings, these are thoughts to remember for our leaders and our safety.
Remember these few quotes, beginning with Joseph Smith, one a while before his death, then the other the very morning he was murdered:
Quote:
“ ‘I want to tell you something. In the future I will speak in parables like unto John, the Revelator.’ (Little did I then think the prophet of the Lord would so soon be slain in cold blood.)” (as quoted in The White Horse Prophecy by Ogden Kraut.)
Then, the morning he died:
Quote:
“Our lives have already become jeopardized by revealing the wicked and bloodthirsty purposes of our enemies; and for the future we must cease to do so.
All we have said about them is truth, but it is not always wise to relate all the truth. Even Jesus, the Son of God, had to refrain from doing so, and had to restrain His feelings many times for the safety of Himself and His followers, and had to conceal the righteous purposes of His heart in relation to many things pertaining to His Father’s kingdom.
When still a boy He had all the intelligence necessary to enable Him to rule and govern the kingdom of the Jews, and could reason with the wisest and most profound doctors of law and divinity, and make their theories and practice to appear like folly compared with the wisdom He possessed; but He was a boy only, and lacked physical strength even to defend His own person; and was subject to cold, to hunger and to death.
“So it is with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; we have the revelation of Jesus, and the knowledge within us is sufficient to organize a righteous government upon the earth, and to give universal peace to all mankind, if they would receive it, but we lack the physical strength, as did our Savior when a child, to defend our principles, and we have a necessity to be afflicted, persecuted and smitten, and to bear it patiently until Jacob is of age, then he will take care of himself.” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Section Six 1843-44 pp 392 - the morning of July 27, 1844)
Gordon B. Hinckley gave those with ears to hear a hint at just what scrutiny they (The Apostles) are under...
Quote:
Our critics at home and abroad are watching us. In an effort to find fault, they listen to every word we say, hoping to entrap us. (Gordon B. Hinckley, “Our Testimony to the World,” Ensign, May 1997, 83)
These prophets of our day, wisely, until "Jacob is of age," must speak in parable, and so we shall have instruction from a prophet in stories that those proud will reject, not holding the patience to learn from the spirit what the intended meaning will be. We should recall this admonition of the Lord to His servants:
Quote:
"And now, verily I say unto you, and this is wisdom, make unto yourselves friends with the mammon of unrighteousness, and they will not destroy you." (D&C 82:22 )
Prophets are speaking in a way as to not upset "the mammon of unrighteousness" and as a result there will be some who will condemn them as "selling out" and of betraying the truth. Let us hold faith that the "keys" are here and that they "have been transferred" and not allow ourselves to be cut off by "mentally stoning" the prophets for decisions we hardly know the motives for.

Re: Quotes to remember for Conference
I am finding increasing evidence, some from years ago, that the Church leadership is very conscious that "Our critics at home and abroad are watching us. In an effort to find fault, they listen to every word we say, hoping to entrap us." Among these evidences are the muzzling of the book "Many Are Called But Few Are Chosen" just recently I read in "Huebener vs Hitler" of the attempted suppression of that story.

Re: Quotes to remember for Conference
Wow, very good quotes! Thanks so much. I had felt that that is why some of the things we talk of here are not spoken of
over the pulpit. It would endanger us all! That is also why the man whom I credit for spurring my awakening,
has all the means in place to be off the grid but isn't totally. We live in a very wicked state and he doesn't want to raise any red flags or call attention to himself. But he can go off grid any time.

Re: Quotes to remember for Conference
You're welcome. Now that conference is over, I am so grateful that I was able to watch. It was very uplifting for me. I am so very glad we have a prophet. I am so grateful for the blessings we have.

Re: Quotes to remember for Conference
The quote brought most to my mind this Conference is "It is not good for man to be alone."

My life, or lack thereof, is proof of that...

Re: Quotes to remember for Conference
I liked Bro. Uchtdorf's comment about text messaging... 'I can just see it now... someone texting that it's been 10 minutes and he hasn't said a word about aviation'.
) I love Bro. Uchtdorf... not a disingenuous bone in his body!
Anybody else also note that the usual 'this conference will be then be adjourned for 6 months' was not uttered by Bro. Eyering? I can't remember a time when this has been forgotten? Back in October, Bro. Uchtdorf also failed to mention it since he was conducting, but Pres. Monson quickly re-assured us of that during the first portion of his closing remarks. Not so this time. I'm not saying there's anything significant about it, just that I can't recall a time where they failed to indicate adjournment for 6 months.
