Last night I attend an emergency preparedness planning session for the Montrose Stake in Montrose, Colorado. This was a first time coordination meeting of all of the emergency preparedness specialists in the Stake. But there is a new emphasis to an old message -- get the members prepared. Not for anything specifically but for the series times that face us in the not too distant future.
A very large amount of this was directed towards establishing alternative forms of communications when normal communications are broken down.
I am personally hoping that some of this Spring's General Conference will cover getting the Church and its members prepared.

Re: Emergency preparedness meeting
Was that emphasis coming from the stake leaders or did it come from Church headquarters? (About the communications, I mean.)

Re: Emergency preparedness meeting
This meeting last night was Stake oriented in terms of increasing its coordination within the Stake and surrounding Stakes. The Church authorities do recognize that most of its members, particularly young members and converts aren't getting the message about the need to prepare. And this is the time to do it.

Randy, I probably haven't been following all your threads/posts very well, but this is actually the first one where I connected the dots that you're in Gunnison, CO, not Gunnison, UT. Thanks for the clues. Sorry if I missed them elsewhere.

Re: Emergency preparedness meeting
We were pretty well organized in our Stake with Emergency Preparedness, communications, etc. and then we were shut down by our Stake Presidency at the time, after we met in a member's home instead of in a church building.
We were being too successful and organized and we were being closely watch by the Feds. If you search on this forum about emergency preparedness, you may find more stuff about this interesting situation...
