Danget Scarecrow, you've jinxed us - now we'll probably have an 8.0 earthquake here along the Wasatch Front this year.

I live in Pennsylvania. I have lived here since 1985. I have felt that this state is relativley safe from natural disasters. We don't get hit hard with Hurricanes (Although we do get hit with Hurricanes after they have spent themselves crossing NJ and Delaware), We don't get hit with earthquakes.
That being said, it seems that the bulk of Pennsylvania's reported FEMA disasters have occured during my residency here. I have lived through the mild spent hurricanes that we have had here. I live near some of the rivers and creeks that have flooded, and I have lived through many of the "Severe Snow Storms" that have been reported to FEMA.
I have also lived in Cache Valley and seen Sardine Canyon closed do to snow storms, and how bad it can get up near Bear Lake. What we experience here in PA is nothing compared to that.
While places like Lousianna, Mississippi, Florida and Texas may have been hammered by Hurricanes, California with major earthquakes, the midwest with massive flooding, there are many so called FEMA disasters reported that are not so disasterous.
I'm afraid that the reason my state is so much lower in the list of safe states than Utah is more a reflection of our wussines and willingness to go running to the government hat in hand for FEMA money than an actual measure of how mother nature treats us.

George Clay
