I love conference weekend. I look forward to hearing from our prophet and apostles. What do you do as a family at conference time? Is it a big deal for you? What family traditions do you have?

It’s known as the “Mormon holiday” where I live. It’s that time of year when the LDS members (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) hear instructions and inspiration from our leaders from Church headquarters. The general authorities of our church address us and teach us the gospel. General Conference is held twice a year at the beginning of October and April.
Every other Sunday throughout the rest of the year, the membership of the Church all over the world participates in our ward meetings. We give talks, lead music, accompany songs, teach Sunday School and other classes, etc. All of the members of the church are expected to have a calling so that they can be a part of the body of Christ and serve His church. Each of us does our part in the organization. It can be a lot of work if you have a big calling. Some callings can be very time consuming. It’s nice to have a break on a few Sundays per year.
On Conference weekend we get to sit back and learn about the gospel from the apostles and prophet. We can even watch General Conference on the internet or television. We can wear our jammies if we want to. We can sit in comfy couches and chairs. By no means does this mean that we passively sit back and watch conference. No, this is an active time for LDS people. It takes active listening and action on the things we have learned if we want to improve our lives and serve those around us. I love General Conference. It always motivates and inspires me to be a better person. It’s a time for instruction. It’s a time for renewal and a time to remember the purpose of life.
