... we won't build Zion until we are humbled. (Spiritually & Temporally)

Zion is both symbolic and literal in nature. The New Jerusalem will be the literal city of Zion in the Americas. How will it be possible for bunch of Mormons to congregate and build an enormous city? Only after this country is purged.

Trials and tribulations do so much to bring us back to remembering what is important and what we should be focusing on.

This is exactly right. we have to do our part first. And I am amazed at how easy it is to get angry/competitive/ resentful even when reading scriptures daily. For me, at least, I've got a long way to go for that mighty change of heart that would make me fit for Zion. Probably no one else here is in the same boat ;)

I'd say from what I have seen you have plenty of company. The one that makes me laugh the most are when people call out someone for pride (very common occurence on these boards) - I guess they don't see what a prideful act that in itself is. :))

Just as Enoch had to build his Zion to save the righteous from the universal destruction of the flood, we must build up Zion in our day to save the righteous from the universal cleansing by fire that will accompany Christ’s glorious return.
agree 100%

Dec 10,2010 "No Man Knoweth the Day"

I was just thinking that if the LDS are to build the New Jerusalem in response to the Tribulation and for protection against the coming Wrath of God; I was thinking it makes sense that there is no dates given in the Bible for the Second Coming. I mean, scripture suggest that Christ will hasten his appearing. Or in other words, the Saints may hasten the appearing of Christ to New Jerusalem by prayer, purifying themselves, and working hard to build and complete the city of New Jerusalem here in North America. (If you build it, He will come). So, it makes sense that scripture does not give a date, because Christ's coming may depend on us. But other dates may possible be known with regard to Daniel's 70 weeks, the 1/2 hour silence, and the 7 year tribulation.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-4 (NIV) Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.

Daniel's dates are perplexing. I've been reading them again. They have multiple meanings, from a historical standpoint and a prophetic one. It seems that once the Saints are established in New Jerusalem, there is a ticking clock that is fairly easy to calculate. Its the arrival of AOA and the Saints to New Jerusalem that has not date. Perhaps this is what is meant by hastening the day, or retarding its arrival. President Kimball was of the opinion that it was retarding it.

That will happen and the Majortiy of the Church will not even know it.

Sadly to say, the Church is going to be cleansed first, America Second. Then Zion will be built. How is the question? When is the Other. Whatever the case, I believe it will happen. Soon 1-2 years the start? I believe 2012, not because of the whole 2012 thing, I do take some stock in the George Albert Smith Prophecy, The Greek Prophecy. If 2012 comes and goes and it doesn't happen we may have more time than we think.

It may be a case of difficult times ahead, and we may end up weathering through it, Whatever the case, I hope to live to see it.

I think he means the church memberships is in need of cleansing not the church I.E. the gospel.

big difference between "the church"/doctrine, and "the gospel"...the gospel encomposes ALL that is true, it's not selective.

And so should the church according to Joseph Smith, Mormonism encompasses all truth, I think he said.

It is semantics, I am agreed with you totally. My point is that the Church should encompass the entire Gospel, but if they did, maybe they wouldn't let me play.

actually, it took JS ten years to "restore the church", but, he had ALREADY BEGAN the restoration of the "fullness of the gospel", the church is NOT meant to be apart of the fullness, hence, certain parts of the gospel were removed from the church "doctrine", and, here we are today
