Good point, but with little patience you can achieve much greater results. Look at Ron Paul. He does not call for everyone to step down, but attempts to reason with them every chance he gets, and because his focus is on what is right, rather than on who is right, he has great results in promoting the cause of Liberty.

I like Mazal's approach of contacting those LDS members of Congress who ignore the Constitution, and asking them to step down and publically repent for supporting unconstitutional acts or laws. It's more of a wake-up call than trying to be patient with them.

Perhaps we should do both.

Has the Church ever "dealt" with members who quietly refused to pay income tax ?

Ron Paul is a better man then me for sure. I still maintain that we need representatives that are not ignorant of constitutional principles, they should be held to standard of knowing and obeying the Constitution, our nation should not show mercy to our leaders who are ignorant of or ignoring Constitutional principles. They need to leave office, the price is too great. I am sure they can find employment elsewhere.

If the Church is going to deal with people who break the law by refusing to pay income tax, surely it would also be appropriate to deal with the lawbreakers in Congress. Violating the Constitution is a much more serious offense than withholding income tax.

I feel that is fair.

The Church now goes by "final" court rulings in tax cases (however unjust those rulings may be). The Church has to pick its fights wisely to maximize its effectiveness in spreading the gospel. And tax law is not it. (Not yet, at least). There are no "final" court rulings in case of corrupt politicians, because the courts are just as corrupt, in general. Again, you have to pick your battles right, and prioritize correctly. The Church is doing just that.

Rand Paul Plans Senate Filibuster Over Debt Ceiling

"Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is planning a Senate filibuster next week in an attempt to force debt ceiling negotiations into the open.

"We've had not one minute of debate about the debt ceiling in any committee," he said in an interview with C-SPAN's "Newsmakers" that aired on Sunday. "We haven't had a budget in two years. We haven't had an appropriations bill in two years. So I'm part of the freshmen group in the Senate that's saying, 'no more.'"

Paul's plan: "Next week, we will filibuster until we talk about the debt ceiling, until we talk about proposals."
