Is the USA doing enough to help the Japanese?
I remember when the tsunami hit Indonesia, Thailand and other countries. It seemed like we Americans couldn't do enough. Celebrities donated money and held concerts, etc. Same with Haiti when the earthquake hit there last year. Everyone wanted to help. Now, when the Japanese people have been devastated and have the on-going threat of radiation despoiling their land and people, where are all the celebrities and do-gooders? It seems we're spending more to help Libya with machines of war than we are spending to help a country desperate for food, water and help.
Is it just that the media is more focused on Libya or do we really not care what happens to Japan?

It seems like everywhere I turn around there's a notice asking me to donate to Japan. Any money I donate will be through the Church's humanitarian program, though.
I would love to help in a direct way. If any displaced Japanese person needed a place to stay, my wife and I would certainly open our home to them and provide for their needs as they regain their footing.

I hope tax payer dollars will not go to help either or any other country.
I will donate the money the Lord has given me stewardship over as He directs.

Likewise and most definitely through the Church humanitarian program.Shimdidly wrote:It seems like everywhere I turn around there's a notice asking me to donate to Japan. Any money I donate will be through the Church's humanitarian program, though.

Don't you remember all the scamming that happened with the donated money for the Indo tsunami? It was awful...Then just recently, I saw an article that the money that was donated for Haiti was being looked for, else why would they still be living in such squalid conditions. No, through the church is the only reliable way to donate.
Also consider that MSM doesn't want to focus on the good that people are doing. I am sure there are a lot of people who have donated, that we just don't hear form them.
Also, we are in a recession and people are holing on to what ever money they can these days....

Every time we hear someone in MSM say that the US is donating money to this or that, where do you think it is coming from? It is the American Tax Payer who funds all these generous donations to other countries.Mahonri wrote:kathyn wrote:I remember when the tsunami hit Indonesia, Thailand and other countries. My point was, it seems like Japan has been set aside because of Libya. That just doesn't seem right. I, too am donating through the Church. That's the best way. I was just pointing out that the "celebrities" were AWOL on this one. Where are all the bleeding hearts that usually come out of the woodwork?

I remember hearing on the news that Japan and other countries did send help after 9/11, and after Katrina. I have no idea how much, but the U.S. government said no thanks.
