Has anyone read Justin Cronin's book, The Passage?

I liked it.

It came out last summer.

If you read a synopsis of the book it will give you a false impression of the content. I read about 60 - 80 pages not knowing really what is was about (it was recommended to me) and then happened to hear a brief explanation of the book on TV and I was like, WHAT!! I dont want to read this book. But as I continued to read, the TV implied things that were not the case in the book. (specifically it is not a vampire book as the review claimed. prob just trying to capatilize on the popularity of vampire stories right now) :ymtongue:

A few interesting points of the book (and this will not spoil anything):

Virus spreads throughout America
America is sealed off from the world
People in America form guarded and secluded communities
These communities form unique laws and regulations to govern themselves
There is an element of God in the story

One thing I thought as I read the book was how many things were left unexplained and the reader is left to make a lot of inferences.

Then recently I read the author is writing this as a trilogy and instead of book 2 being a linear sequel, book 2 is being written following the same timeline as book 1 but follows other characters while overlapping a few character from book 1. He said this will explain some of the unexplained in book 1.
