The earth's temporal existence

I think I've thrown this out here before, but if I did, I don't think I ever came to a conclusion. We know that the Lord has stated through scripture that the earth's temporal existence is 7,000 years. So how is it then that Scientists have said the dinosaurs go back 65 million years and that their process of carbon dating has proven that fossills and other earthly events have occurred millions of years ago if the earth is only 6,000+ years old?

...assembled the earth from matter yet unorganized. How old was the matter?

I don't know... then how have Scientists been able to determine the length of ice ages and various climate changes that have occurred on the earth over periods of tens of thousands or millions of years by extracting ice cores from remote locations like Antarctica? I'm not being devil's advocate on purpose by the way. ;)

ahh but what methods have they used to determine dates and are those methods without flaw? For example the ever popular carbon dating?

The older I get the more I find that the facts were really just opinions - some educated and some not.

For example, if you believe the BOM there were some pretty radical changes in North and South America not even two thousand years back. I've also seen opinion that stated the Grand Canyon was carved out over a very short period of time (flood drainage) versus the previous thought of thousands of years. I also don't know what the Giants in the Old Testament referred to....

Couple of points:

1. I have heard it said that the earth may have been created out of other destryed earths. Don't think I have a source for that.

2. Quotes I have heard use the phrase "creative period." I think that's it.

I believe that this 7000 year temporal existence begins with leaving the Garden of Eden. Nothing is said about the time before the Garden of Eden (6 creative periods, that we don't know how long each one was) and the Time Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden
