England Dedicated Anciently to Receive Gospel

Post by Quill »

Truman G. Madsen said during early missions to England there were prophesies that ancient prophets prayed that their posterity would receive the gospel when it was restored, similar to the prophets in the Book of Mormon praying that their history would be preserved to teach their descendants where they came from. In these areas in England thousands joined the church.

Does anyone know where to find more information about this, or know in what cities, towns, or areas this happened? Thanks.

Quill Try and get hold of the Book "Truth will Prevail" The Rise of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British Isles 1837-1987. if your lucky might also get a very large pull out map showing the ancient & modern sites.

Elder Heber C. Kinball and Orson Hyde set foot on British soil in July 1837, there destination was Preston. In Preston they saw a banner with the words "Truth will Prevail" so impressed were the elders that they adopted the motto for there sacred work in Britain. This area was were many joined the church in-particular a place called Chorley. this is where the Preston Temple is located, England's second Temple. The fields that the Temple site occupies was and is known as Temple View! This area was dedicated by the ancient apostle Paul or Peter I think it was Peter see Preston Dedicatory prayer.http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/preston/prayer/ given by Pres Hinckley. I went to it great. :D

AFTER ALMOST A YEAR of unprecedented susccess in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Britain (July 1837 to April 1838), Elders C. Kimball and Orson Hyde made final prepartions for their return to the United States. In April Elder Kimball made a last tour of Chatburn, Lancashire, and surrounding branches to bid farewell to his friends, many of whom he had baptised. He had first visited that village the previous year, even though he had been warned that the people the people there would not recieve his message because of there hardness of heart". However, Elder Kimball had been blessed with such an outpouring of the Spirit that the "hard" hearts of the people now held only love-for the Lord, for his gospel, and for his messengers, Heber C, Kimball. Because of this , many of themhad joined the Church, and a strong branch had been established at Chatburn.
Now their beloved Elder Kimball had come to give them a parting hand. As he Took his leave, most of the saints wept openly, and Elder Kimball Himself was deeply affected. He wrote:

"When I left them, my feelings were such as I cannot describe. As I walked down the street I was followed by numbers; the doors were crowed by the inmates of the houses to bid me farewell, who could only give vent to their grief in sobs and broken accents. While contemplating this scene I was constrained to take off my hat, for I felt as if the place was holy ground. The spirit of the Lord rested down upon me and I was constrained to bless that whole region of country. I was followed by a great number from Clithero[sic] , a considerable distance from the village, who could hardly separate from me. My heart was like unto theirs, and I Thought my head was a fountain of tears, for I wept for several miles after I bid them adieu. I had to leave te road three times to go to streams of water to bathe my eyes". (Whitney Kimball, pp 200-1.)

In Nauvoo the Prophet Joseoh Smith responded to Elder Kimball's account of that experience with the enlightened instruction : "Did you not understand it? That is a place where some of the old prophets travelled and dedicated that land, and their blessing fell upon you". (JD 5:22.) Mor than 130 years later, President Spencer W. Kimball, granddson of Heber C. Kimball, attended the first British area conference of the church, where he related that experience from his ancestor's life. President Kimball then affirmed : "I should like to think that the whole of this great land is Blessed and still carrying a blessing from our Heavenly Father from great and holy men who have walked upon its shores," (British Area Conference Report, p. 21.)
I recollect being in England, in the town of Chadburn, Lancashire; and while there I felt as if my whole system was live; I felt quicken by some unseen power. Brother Orson Hyde was with me, and he knows that it is true; andI felt to put off my shoes. We pulled off our hats , for we felt such a scared and holy feeling. I told Brother Joseph about it when Icame home and he said, "Brother Heber, that place was dedicated by one of the old Prophets and it will always be filled with the spirit of life"....I wish.... you were all as visionary as those holy men were who dedicated these places in the days of Jesus and the Apostles. (Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, vol,6,pp,190.)
Both Paul and Peter proclaimed the gospel in England, Scotland and Wales.

Brigham Young climbed the Malvern Hills look across the land of south west England And Wales and declared that the Apostle Peter had proclaimed the land would be fruitful of Course if you look up the History of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir it was Started up by Wales Saints Dan Jones the greats Welshman as far as I'm concerned converted many in that small land.

below the Mavern hill John Benbows farm he join the Church, and related to Elder Holland, i think on his and his wife side, many in that area join the Church. The very first lds Chapel in the world where 300 united Brethren bar one joined the Church. and gave their building to the church which was sold to help pay for British saints to emerate to the states. That building now belongs to the Church. In fact I with my friend Paul Woodhead were the Builder that did the restoration work. It was owned by a Trust of Lds members whom we work for.

Joseph of Aramathia brought the child Christ to England His Mother Mary was from England and the west country and Wales were her Douay the Lot of his inheritance is the British Isles Jesus is the true Prince of Wales.

Tony63, as a family history buff, I have always been taught that the kings of all countries claimed to descend from kings of Israel, and that this information may not necessarily be correct. If your statements are all correct, I will have to change my thinking. I would love to have the exact quotes, since I am not likely to find that book where I live. Great quote by Brigham Young et al.

"John McWilliams, a remote ancestor, was a widower with two daughters. He devoted himself with great assiduity to their religious education. He seems to have taken Abraham for his model, although the two cases were by no means parallel in every respect. Abraham, while yet childless, received and believed the promise that he was to be the father of a numerous race. John McWilliams, while watching over his two motherless daughters, was steadfast in the faith that he was to be the father of a "numerous seed." His faith went farther. "He was often heard to say that it was his abiding conviction that he was to have a numerous progeny, and that not one of them would fail to enter the kingdom with him."

yes your right many countries do claim, and are of the Royal house of Israel. Jacob was told at Bethel that kings would come from his loins. Oh it's correct I'll dig the BY quote out

What's interesting about this legend to me, is that Tara (Teia in versions I've heard) had a second name of Tephi.

Now where have we heard that language pattern used before in 600 BC Jerusalem? :D

Yes I got the name wrong here it is Teah Tephi and they lived in the place called Tara in southern Ireland. Yes " For it came to pass in the commencement of the first year of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah, ..... and in that same year there came many prophets, prophesying unto the people that they repent, or Jerusalem must be destroyed.

Of course Lehi and Jeremiah new each othe,r they went to the sane meetings :) Lehi went to the Ameri-ca's and Jerimiah took Zedekiah's daughters to Egypt and the on to Ireland.

Thanks for the information. I have ancestors from the area and I wanted to see if they were a part of this history. I followed one of my lines back on family search (I wish I knew of a faster way) and I came to Jeremiah the Prophet. Now it's impossible to try to get back to it there are so many lines and it takes so long. I also don't know how accurate family search records are going through history that far. But I sure hope it's right! So anyway, it's interesting you mentioned him. I'm going to look up those links and books you posted. Thanks.

Back to Jeremiah - that is fantastic. The earliest I've traced is to someone born in 6AD.

And did those feet in ancient time
The Hymn: "Jerusalem"
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark Satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold:
Bring me my arrows of desire:
Bring me my spear: O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

King Zedekiahs mother was Hamutal the DAUGHTER OF JEREMIAH . Jer. 52.1 The Kings daughters Jer 42. 6 would be Jeremiahs grand children. Like wise Mulek whose people founded Zarahemla. A word similiar to Zedekiah [well both start with Z] his father. If Tea Tephi was the name of the Kings daughter, then she would be Muleks sister. Tamar Tephi (or Tea Tephi) according to some old oral traditions came to Ireland with her younger sister 'Scota', possible progenitor of the Scots. the name
Tea Tephi.. Of Tara. Tephi means Beautiful in Hebrew but there are other scholars that claim 'Tea Tephi' is a 'pet name' and means "my beautiful little one." The T.ARA would be pronounced 'Thara'.. Thara is an alternate form of the name 'Terah'. The Father of Abraham ..

Also the holy city of Tara was founded in Ireland on this day
Tea later married her nephew Eremhom in Spain and then requested a 'mount' as her dower.. She selected the place and told them it was to be her burial chamber also. ... Tea and Hereman had a son named Iri or Irial..
THE CORONATION STONE
Buried in the poetry and folk-lore of Ireland is the tale of a Prophet, an Egyptian Princess and Simon Brug (Baruch) a Scribe. They Landed in Ireland about the same time that the destruction of Jerusalem took place, bearing with them a great chest and a stone wrapped on a banner. The Princess married the Zarahite King, Eochaidh II. Ard-dath, Ard-righ, or Heremon, horse man of all Ireland.

It is claimed that with the Princess Tea Tephi, were brought to Ireland many priceless relics showing the Hebrew identity, and royal descent of her people; among them the "Jodham Morain" or priest breast plate; the harp of King David, "Sweet Singer of Israel", and the famous Coronation Stone of the Kings of Ireland, Scotland, and England.

This Stone, tradition states, is the identical pillow upon which the head of Jacob rested at Bethel; that it was carried to Egypt by his sons, and became sacred in the eyes of his descendants.

It is called the Stone of "Fate" or "Fortune", and is spoken of in the old records as "the ancientest respected monument in the world."
Old Irish verse:

The praises of Tea Tephi are sung as:

"The Beautiful One with a Royal Prosperous Smile."
"Tephi (Hebrew beautiful) the most beautiful that traversed the Plain."
"Temor of Bregia, whence so called."

Relate to me O learned Sages,
When was the place called Temor?
Was it in the time of Parthalon of battles?
Or at the first arrival of Caesaire?
Tell me in which of these invasions
Did the place have the name of Tea-mor?
O Tuan, O generous Finchadh,
O Dubhan, Ye venerable Five
Whence was acquired the name of Te-mor?
Until the coming of the agreeable Teah
The wife of Heremon of noble aspect.
A Rampart was raised around her house
For Teah the daughter of Lughaidh (God's House)
She was buried outside in her mound
And from her it was named Tea-muir.
Cathair, Crofin not inapplicable.
Was its name among the Tuatha-de-Danaan
Until the coming of Tea - the Just
Wife of Heremon of the noble aspect?
A wall was raised around her house
For Tea the daughter of Lughaidh,
(And) she was interred in her wall outside,
So that from her is Tea-mor.
A habitation which was a Dun (Hebrew court) and a fortress
Which was the glory of murs without demolition,
On which the monument of Tea after her death,
So that it was an addition to her dowry.
The humble Heremon had
A woman in beautiful confinement
Who received from him everything she wished for.
He gave her whatever he promised,
Bregatea a meritorious abode
(Where lies) The grave, which is the great Mergech (Hebrew burial place)
The burial place which was not violated.
The daughter of Pharaoh of many champions
Tephi, the most beautiful that traversed the Plain.
She gave a name to her fair cahir,
The woman with the prosperous royal smile,
Mur-Tephi where the assembly met.
It is not a mystery to be said
A Mur (was raised) over Tephi I have heard.
Strength this, without contempt,
Which great proud Queen have formed
The length, breadth of the house of Tephi,
Sixty feet without weakness
As Prophets and Druids have seen.

From "Forward" - Watchman What of the Dawn
Ancestors of:
Tea Tephi, Queen of Ireland
Daughter of The Kings of Judah BACK TO ADAM

The Preston Temple with the MTC and the Chorley Stake Centre is one of my favourite places on earth. There were many marvellous spiritual experiences during the open house and dedication of the Temple.

There were more Saints living in England during the 1840's than there were in the United States. The oldest continuous branch/ward of the Church is the Preston England ward.

All of the Prophets of this dispensation, so far, can trace their lineage back to England and the UK. The blood of Ephraim is rich in the UK and Ireland which is why the Prophet Joseph Smith sent the missionaries to his 'home country' to gather out the blood of Israel who eventually gathered to the United States.

The United States is the chosen land but the British and Irish are the chosen people!

Érin go Breá, Éirinn go Brách.

"British and Irish are the chosen people"? Tell that to my wife. She will tell you that Danes from the Israelite Tribe of Dan moved into what is now Denmark at about the same time as the Naphtali moved in large numbers into Norway. If the British, Scots and the Irish are a chosen people it is because so many members of Dan settled in Denmark, in Ireland, in Wales, England, and later in the U.S.A. The Vikings who invaded England were Danes and Norwegians. The Danes settled in the northeast of England and the Norwegians in the northwest. They also settled in Ireland and in parts of Scotland. When we lived in northeast England (1976-1978) we noted many place names influenced by the Danish language. Also my wife noted that the local dialects were thick with Danish words.

Not really sure about including Ireland and Scotland in England, but... there is an ancient tradition that St. Paul preached round about the cathedral named for him in London. That's the controversial part... the rest which follows is accepted by mainstream historians:

Back then the Thames was a sluggish, marshy river (it is said the Romans improved the drainage a lot). There was already a settlement at Londinium before the Romans turned up and the name appears to be Celtic.

The Romans started invasion attempts under Julius Caesar, before Christ, and then the more successful attempts in the 40s AD. Between these times, there were some client kingdoms in southern Britain. Since Paul is said to have died in the 60s AD, and converted in the 30s AD, he had a window of around thirty years to travel there.
