People freaking out at my work!

Post by NamasteMama »

Today I had a VERY scary occurence at work. I work for one of the largest grocery stores in the nation. I walked in the back room to find out wine steward drunk out of his mind. So we get the manager there and he wants to drive home, which of course was a no go.So we called someone to come pick him up and then all of a sudden this wine steward goes crazy grabs a box cutter and says he can't loose his job its all he has and he's going to kill himself and grabs a box cutter and trys to slit his throat. The manager grabs the box cutter and everyone is trying to calm him down, one guy got hit in the face by accident and they had to call the cops and everything!!!!!! The crazy thing is that they had a lady do this same thing at one of our other stores a month or two ago when she though she was going to get fired! I wish I could carry a gun at work, because this is freaky! The sad part is that he was a really nice guy and was always so helpful and just a great person.

As the economy turns south further, we may see more of this. Somehow there has to be a higher goal than making money.

Thanks for the report N-Mama ... can you tell us what city this occurred in?

In AZ. In AZ we can conceal to carry anywhere except a bar and a school with out a permit, but my work prohibits guns on th eproperty, so I am afraid I will get fired if I buy a gun and bring it to work.

Yes, in AZ you can not carry a concealed weapon on the premises of a business if they ban them. It is against the law. So legally you would be breaking the law if they have advised you that it is prohibited.

Interesting how that employee was feared consequences of his actions after he did the actions. How true is that when is comes to living the gospel? We neglect the consequences of sins when we engage in them. Once committed, we are unwilling the face the consequences.

That is sooooo creepy because today at work we heard that another store in our chain picked up a shoplifter and in the LPO's office he slit his wrists because " he couldn't go to jail." These are definately strange days.

The stress they put us under is unreal. A grocery store job used to pay well and be a nice enviroment from what I was told. Not anymore. We have 2-3 jobs in the store, hours are cutto the bare minumums and everyone is stressed.

I agree Namastemamma. When our minimum wage went up, our hours went down. There is still the same work load to do and no payroll or employee hours to do it. Minimum wage is set to go up again. I really worry about what is going to happen. We are all under stress as it is. Three of our employees have had issues with RCMP in the last six. At heart these are descent people, but descent people do dumb things when they are stressed out.
