Hi folks,
Just found this forum, and thought I'd stop by and register, and maybe participate a little.
I'm strongly conservative in my political views, borderline libertarian. I'm also a disciple of occam's razor, and tend to reject arguments where the supporting evidence hinges on how X-filesesque the background music sounds.
But just by looking around, I'm sure I can learn a lot here. Maybe I'll have something to contribute here and there.

I understand your application of Occam's Razor in the basis for truth, however such is the postulate for simpletons. A *far* more accurate basis for truth is scripture, the words of the Prophets, and the Holy Spirit.
(Moroni 10:5)
"And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
(2 Nephi 32:5)
"For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do."
As Lt. Col John B. Alexander said regarding military microwave technology, "The information on those kinds of technologies presented here would be considered by some to be ridiculous since it does not conform to their view of reality."
Why must things that exist conform to *our* view of reality in order for us to see it as true? And who teaches our view of reality? The public education system and the media. Nephi counsels time and time again, "cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm." Therefore by not taking these things to the Lord, on BOTH sides, we commit the same sin as Laman and Lemuel and risk our distorted view of reality ruining our entire perception of the world and reality.
(Proverbs 3:5)
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

Hmmmm ... in re-reading what I just wrote, it does sound a bit arrogant -- it wasn't meant that way and I apologize if it came off the wrong way.
Anyway Welcome!

No offense taken at all 79scholar. I would be very disappointed if half the people here don't react to me quite passionately at least once. 8)
And your point is well taken. I tend to use occam's razor in instances when the spirit is silent.

I must admit I use a similar method to Occam's Razor (when the Spirit is silent):
I calculate the likelihoods of scenarios or interpretations based on
1- compliance with scripture, history, or sound sources
2- motive
3- profits of money / power (qui bono)
The more it fills these, the more simple I see it ... and when evidence and scripture is inconclusive and we're fishing for theories, to me it's either "very likely", "more likely", "less likely", "not likely", and "that's some powerful imagination you got there!"
Yet there is one thing that I believe (which seems far-fetched) that can be backed up by multiple scriptures and prophet's quotes ... that in the last days, the adversary will organize a vast secret combination group to overthrow the freedom of all lands, resulting in Armageddon prior to the Lord's Second Coming. Much like a repeat of the days of Noah. To me, the theories lie in the details.
