Why has technology moved faster in the last 200 years?
This is a question that I have pondered for years. I used to think it was the church, then I thought it was the renaissance, then I thought it was capitalism. But now I don't know! What caused this 5000 year leap? In the Book of Mormon, in 4th Nephi the Nephites and Lamanites lived in peace and righteousness for 200 years! Where's their electricity, internal combustion engines, computers and satellites? This last two centuries hasn't been the first time there was capitalism, righteousness, and the gospel.

Re: Why has technology moved faster in the last 200 years?
Because it's the "Dispensation of the fullness of times" as was prophesied. When the Heavens were opened and opening, it wasn't just the fullness of the Gospel that came forth, but the minds of men were also expanded.
The other aspect was indeed Freedom and Capitalism/Industrialization, which initially started some in Europe, and then was fulfilled in creating America, and then those ideals spread to other country's such as Japan and South Korea, as well as many other country's. But, those country's are clear independent examples of how capitalism and freedom ideals became a part of those cultures, and caused them to flourish. Look at China now.... The more "free" and "capitalistic" they have become the more prosperous they have become. But even with Freedom and Capitalism, it's because of the Gospel, that is the Revelation and Inspiration of God which established this country for the Gospel to then be established in.
Yes, history has had it's "spurts" of knowledge and/or righteousness and freedom to some degree. But, at no time has it been more organized, more FULL, more open, more free, etc. And all that came before prepared for "this" time period. Most of the history of mankind has been primitive, wicked and destructive. Basically all scholars agree that this period, and the American experiment is "unique" in history.

Pat Answer: Enabling technologies, so we could get the temple work done more quickly for our ancestors, so we don't end up getting burned before the 2nd Coming.
After all, they have to have the Priesthood, all who participate in the Hosts of Heaven, to come to our rescue, when requested. They will know us, because they are related to us.
