Recently I've read many articles on "Bugging Out" when things start rolling. Most things read like this: "Have a 72 hr kit, survival pack and get out quick. Later you can come back home and see what you have left". This is not an acceptable approach to me. How do all of you handle these things? All my food storage is in #10 cans and quart jars. These things aren't grab and go items. I also have a 600 gallon water tank in my garage.
Two thoughts come to mind as I sort through the details of my condition.
1). I don't want to leave my food to looters
2). I probably shouldn't live in the Atlanta area, but in this market can't sell.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Bugging Out
I do not think it is unwise to PREPARE a bug out option. No one would want to use it - like you I have most of my storage that would be left. And I think the secret is that where possible, you build up your community so that bugging out is not required.
That being said, your food storage will do you no good if you are dead or in a FEMA camp. Try not to be paranoid but I would have some scenarios in my mind of where you draw the line to bug out and don;t wait until something happens - you will be in no state to make good decisions in the midst of a crisis.
Food storage is long term survival. Bugging out is short term survival. Fast and pray fro guidance in your preparations and in your decisions.

Re: Bugging Out
You need to have a plan to bug out to, not just the random wilderness. That way leads to folly. You do not want to be a refugee. You will eventually end up somewhere out of desperation that you really do not want to be.
You might want to have more than one possible bug-out destination. My suggestion would be some land you own and have pre-positioned supplies and shelter on so that your emergency kit will be used to make it there. If not that, many families have a relative that owns some property somewhere and they can arrange to stage supplies and storage there.
Don't think you are going to wander off into a national park or BLM land and "live off the land". Or worse yet, a campground.

Re: Bugging Out
If your thoughts and feelings tell you this is not an acceptable approach, I would trust that. Everyone's situations will be different according to their desires, resources and abilities. Taking a "poll" is no substitute for knowing what the Lord would have YOU do.
As for bugging out in general... I would agree that if you have no destination in mind, no plan... probably not a good idea. Stay put unless you can accept never coming back. That's 100% my opinion.
