A LumberJack's Daughter

"In the end, all you really own is your story." -Drover (Hugh Jackman, "Australia")

I am a lumberjack's daughter who grew up surrounded by the mountains, forests, lakes and rivers of the Idaho panhandle. I come from hardy stock. I enjoy writing and have a published novelette, The Grim Shadow: A Modern-Day Fable (political/social satire) and have won short story contests.

I don't like jokes with punchlines but I do find humor in everyday life. A good sense of humor is a great survival technique. I lost my taste for sarcasm about the same time I lost my cynicism. I am still a work in progress but life would be pretty boring if everyone were already the finished product.

Truth is important to me. I'm working on gratitude. I try to not spend much time dwelling on what the other guy is doing wrong. I'm kept plenty busy enough just keeping track of what I'm up to. I'm definitely not grace under pressure. Not yet, anyway. I'm not a current status quo type of person. I came out of the womb saying “don't tell me what to do”. I'm working on that...

I was born to be free. I told the world, don't tether me.
As finally I float away, now I wish that I could stay.

Welcome, LBJ's daughter (sorry, couldn't help myself.. hope your sense of humor extends this far).

I like a bit of independence... and your poem.

A friend of mine from Boise put it this way, though:

His fellow man he did renounce.
He leapt and fell, and did not bounce.
