Interesting Presentation on Kirtland Egyptian Papers

The much attacked, maligned and misunderstood Kirtland Egyptian Papers were just treated to a detailed study by one of the FAIR conference presenters. Definitely worth a watch for those interested, but here are the strong conclusions that can be drawn (IMO):

1. The KEP were created AFTER the Book of Abraham had already been translated/revealed, so they don't represent translation attempts by Joseph Smith.

2. In several cases it appears that they were actually an attempt to encypher existing non-BoA revelations. Remember this dates from the same period where Joseph was using code words in revelations to disguise the identity of members mentioned.

3. They may represent the attempt to discover the "pure" language that some early church members were very interested in. Some (W.W. Phelps) believed that Egyptian might be the original language. Today members refer to this "pure" language concept as the "adamic" language.

There is alot more information I'm not dealing with here, so it would be interesting to get some discussion going from people interested in watching the presentation.

Man that was great..... Verifies what I already saw for myself, instead of believing the "easy" negative seeming argument. It also clearly shows how utterly ignorant and dumb anti-mormons are in relation to scholarship. They don't produce anything even anywhere close to such detailed study and scholarship for the actual truth on ANY subject related to mormonism, yet our scholars produce vast facts and details which tells the actual truth, facts and info they simply ignore or are too lazy to explore, because the easy drive by negative claim is more easy to believe.

Just goes to show, anti's aren't interested in the truth, only interesting in degrading and being a bully. :(

He left the Church over the KEP? I guess people have left the Church over even less meaningful items, but to this point everything we knew about the KEP was based pretty much on idle speculation of various antis and apologists.

It's pretty entertaining to watch the various anti's continue to retreat further and further as time goes on. More and more the arguments are based on fringe concerns that the average member doesn't care that much about. I love it :)
