How close is the cleansing? "Upon My house shall it begin"

Studying with many of Cleon Skousen's dear friends. It has become obvious to me that the cleansing is very very close, perhaps only days, weeks or months.

How close are we to the cleansing? And do you have any intelligence on the matter that would help us see why and how close the cleansing really is?

God Bless,
Darren

Dr. Skousen predicted that the "cleansing" will include earthquakes, tornadoes, famine, riots and civil strife, and a plague. I think we will also have to contend with greater military battles and breakdown of government. I've gotten nothing in the way of intel that would cause me to put a time frame on the "cleansing", although knowing if it were less than a year ahead would cause us to modify our preparations considerably. We are currently in a situation in which availablity of money is essential for now but probably will not be during and after the "cleansing" as I understand it. In other words, we don't dare invest our reserve money in more food or preparedness items than we already have.

And some of us have our faith being tried in times of economic dire straits (unemployment). I guess we are going through the rinse cycle first, before the cleansing.

The cleansing will start when the missionaries are called home. Around the same time our Prophet will be on National Tv telling the country something bad has happened, he'll be blamed! And the cleansing will be underway. As types and shadows go, we're fast approaching Helaman 8:26---chapter 9.

Good thing we're prepared.

Why do you want to know how close it is? Just curious.

I think we are a ways away from the cleansing. I think we are going to go through some years of famine first. My reasons are these:

GBH talks in 1998, 2001, and 2005 that mention dreams of fat and lean kine. Starting with 2001, 7 years would end with the 2008 stock market drop. I think we are going into the famine years. Famine is mentioned in Matthew 24 as one of the last day events. Hopi indian traditions talk about last days when crop yield will be dropping over a period of a few years to no crops at all. Bishop Koyle prophecies say crop yield drops 25% first year, 50% second year, and 75% the third year and no crops the fourth year. Then two years to recover. My garden is about 25% less this year than last....my own personal data point...it rained here in Utah so much this spring that I had to replant a couple of times. We need to see what the crop yield is out there for the world to see if these predictions are for real. Joseph Smith's mother's history tells of a famine of three years of crop failures that caused them to move to New York in 1814 from Vermont...it has been associated with a volcano eruption changing the weather patterns....we have volcano eruptions in Iceland going on right now. I think that the Lord wants a prepared people...so I think it will be a slow hardship method He employs. Also, President Boyd K. Packer came to our Stake in May of 2008 and prophesied that we and our children would learn to use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. That sounds like a depression/famine to me. It also coincides with the same year the stock market dropped. I think depression/famine would show us and the Lord what kind of people we are...whether we are the type that can live a higher law and go into millenium living a terrestrial life....we are living a telestial life now (or lower). We are building a temple here in Brigham City and are breaking ground at the end of the month...I think the Lord would want it at least close to finished before all he__ breaks loose (like historical pattern). We still need to wait for missionaries to be called home. We need some world war at the end of BO's term...if the GAS prophecy has any merit. Or then maybe I am really wrong, and a whole different scenario will play out. If we are prepared, it really doesn't matter when, does it?

Never heard the TV theory before. How do you figure? I have no doubts that the saints will be the object of much opposition, I've just never heard it like you put it.

In Nephi's day, he got on his prayer tower to tell the gadiantons of his day what they didn't want to hear, notice the detailed description of where his tower was (Helaman 7:10); Today, the tower is called "television!" All of todays gadiantons will hear!

The sad part, many of todays membership will be embarrassed! Many, even after partaking of the fruit of the tree of life, will fail for a time because of those mocking from the great and spacious building (1st Nephi, chapter eight). As Peter did, failing to acknowledge the Lord before the cock crowed three times. Hence, the cleansing begins!

It will be a great and terrible test in mortality, the Lord will have a tried and tested people going into the millennium!

Two more tests to come!

President packer told us in our stake conference here in AZ the same thing in a state wide sake conferenc broadcast. He mentioned how our kids would have to learn how to deal with having less and this was the way it was going to be in the future.

I suspect a lot of those members who will be "embarrassed" for holding on to the rod will be government employees, due to the deep-rooted anti-Christian sentiment among the current crop who are in leadership positions in those agencies and organizations.

Observation based on personal experience.

Won't have much to do with choice of occupations. Lack of knowledge, incomplete understanding, fear not allowing guidance by the Spirit, failure to prepare. Things are gonna get spooky. When the economy fails this time, everybody will be out of work.

President Monson and Elder Ballard told us in 2006 Stake Conference not to take on any debt without serious prayerful consideration....

Elder Ballard made the comment in the Priesthood leadership meeting that hard times were coming....that he wasn't an economist but he was an apostle.

We definitely can't say we haven't been warned.....
I do not know what the future holds. I do not wish to sound negative, but I wish to remind you of the warnings of scripture and the teachings of the prophets which we have had constantly before us.

I cannot forget the great lesson of Pharaoh’s dream of the fat and lean kine and of the full and withered stalks of corn.

I cannot dismiss from my mind the grim warnings of the Lord as set forth in the 24th chapter of Matthew.

I am familiar, as are you, with the declarations of modern revelation that the time will come when the earth will be cleansed and there will be indescribable distress, with weeping and mourning and lamentation (see D&C 112:24).

Now, I do not wish to be an alarmist. I do not wish to be a prophet of doom. I am optimistic. I do not believe the time is here when an all-consuming calamity will overtake us. I earnestly pray that it may not. There is so much of the Lord’s work yet to be done. We, and our children after us, must do it.

In spite of the teachings of the Church from its earliest days until today, members sometimes fall victim to many unwise and foolish financial practices. Some continue to spend, thinking that somehow the money will become available. Somehow they will survive.

Far too often, the money hoped for does not appear.

Remember this: debt is a form of bondage. It is a financial termite. When we make purchases on credit, they give us only an illusion of prosperity. We think we own things, but the reality is, our things own us.

Some debt—such as for a modest home, expenses for education, perhaps for a needed first car—may be necessary. But never should we enter into financial bondage through consumer debt without carefully weighing the costs.

We have often heard that interest is a good servant but a terrible master. President J. Reuben Clark Jr. described it this way: “Interest never sleeps nor sickens nor dies; it never goes to the hospital; it works on Sundays and holidays; it never takes a vacation. … Once in debt, interest is your companion every minute of the day and night; you cannot shun it or slip away from it; you cannot dismiss it; it yields neither to entreaties, demands, or orders; and whenever you get in its way or cross its course or fail to meet its demands, it crushes you.” 2

The counsel from other inspired prophets in our time on this subject is clear, and what was true 50 or 150 years ago is also true today.

President Heber J. Grant said, “From my earliest recollections, from the days of Brigham Young until now, I have listened to men standing in the pulpit … urging the people not to run into debt; and I believe that the great majority of all our troubles today is caused through the failure to carry out that counsel.” 3

President Ezra Taft Benson said, “Do not leave yourself or your family unprotected against financial storms. … Build up savings.” 4

President Harold B. Lee taught, “Not only should we teach men to get out of debt but we should teach them likewise to stay out of debt.” 5

President Gordon B. Hinckley declared: “Many of our people are living on the very edge of their incomes. In fact, some are living on borrowings. …

“… I urge you to be modest in your expenditures; discipline yourselves in your purchases to avoid debt to the extent possible. Pay off debt as quickly as you can, and free yourselves from bondage.” 6

But the best place to have some food set aside is within our homes, together with a little money in savings. The best welfare program is our own welfare program. Five or six cans of wheat in the home are better than a bushel in the welfare granary.
....
Save a little money regularly, and you will be surprised how it accumulates.

A cardinal principle of the gospel is to prepare for the day of scarcity. Work, industry, frugality are part of the royal order of life. Remember these words from Paul: “If any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”13

Seated before us are the three presiding high priests who constitute the First Presidency of the Church.

From President James E. Faust, Second Counselor, we hear: “Every father and mother are the family’s storekeepers. They should store whatever their own family would like to have in the case of an emergency … [and] God will sustain us through our trials.”14

From President Thomas S. Monson, First Counselor, we hear: “Many more people could ride out the storm-tossed waves in their economic lives if they had their year’s supply of food … and were debt-free. Today we find that many have followed this counsel in reverse: they have at least a year’s supply of debt and are food-free.”15

From President Gordon B. Hinckley, the Lord’s prophet, we hear:

“The best place to have some food set aside is within our homes. …

“We can begin ever so modestly. We can begin with a one week’s food supply and gradually build it to a month, and then to three months. … I fear that so many feel that a long-term food supply is so far beyond their reach that they make no effort at all.

“Begin in a small way, … and gradually build toward a reasonable objective.
