"...and the Great Jehova shall say the work is done."

"The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; . . . the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done."
I have commonly heard over the years that The Second Coming won't occur until the Gospel has been brought to all nations. Some of the discussions also include the last part of The Standard of Truth. The claim is that all the world must receive the Gospel in all nations before Jehovah shall say, "the work is done". Then Christ will come again.
Is the declaration, "the work is done", referring to before The Second Coming or could it also be applied to after the work done during the Millenium?

I do not believe that the "work is done" can ever apply prior to the millennium.
In order for all the work to be "done", everyone living must have an opportunity to hear the gospel (which arguably we are close to, but there are those in third world countries with no access to internet, etc.), AND temple work must be done for EVERY human who has ever lived.
We simply do not have the ability to get this done. How many millions of people lived and died without record of their life? No amount of genealogy is going to uncover records that do not exist, or identify those who lived in complete anonymity.
He can, however, proclaim the "work" done - meaning cease your labors, that's as good as it's going to get - long before the work is entirely complete.

ya i agree. (not talking about the dead) I don't think the Gospel is going to be preached in all the countries and sound in every ear before the Second Coming.
Unless the 144,000 do the work that covers that.
Thats why I bring it up, some argue that before the Second Coming the Gospel must be preached in all the countries and sound in every ear, then the Lord will declare the work done and then the Lord will return.

I do believe that it has to go to every country. Not every ear. In fact President Monson asked us to pray for the countries that are not open will open for the missionaries. I wonder how many members are actually praying for that.

The work will be done when the purposes of God shall be accomplished. His work and glory is to bring to pass immortality and eternal life to His children. The work won't be done until His children return to Him. That won't happen until after the Millennium.

The Great Jehovah will not proclaim the work is done until the millenium is over. The Standard of Truth has nothing to do with the second coming as a marker of any kind.

With the prokiferation of operating temples and organized church units throughout the world, can we not say The Gosple hasbeen preached throughout the world? Yes, I know that there is no officail preaching availaable in the Muslin countires but there are US Service LDS men/women serving there, and radio, TV and internet signals with Gosple messages can be received there.

Sadly I fail to do as commanded in many senses. I thought of that exact thing the other day and have since began praying as instructed. Now not every time but quite regularly. I have been feeling a different heighth of spirituality in my prayers. Coincidence, YES!
