In previous posts i have seen a prophecy where "earth becomes one land mass is when Christ comes in his glory" below is a link to a theoretical event that could cause it.... food for thought

Looks like the highway cast up out of the deep.

Haha I thought that as well when I saw the picture. The ceasing (or slowing) of the rotation of the Earth could be caused by a nearby passing planet or other large mass. This would explain the prophecy of the changing of time of daylight/darkness.
Also, looking at the picture, I felt bad for Europe and Canada

It looked like New York was submerged as well. Wasn't this a prophecy given by one of our prophets? I thought I heard something like this.

Also it corresponds where it is said that his sign will come, and many will explain it away as a comet or meteor or planet etc.....

Yep! Now what about this Planet X we keep hearing about? As well as the location(s) of the lost tribes?

In the first 4 months that WISE had been taking infrared photographs out into space it had already detected 16 near earth objects that were previously unknown to scientists. The closest of which will orbit just outside the moon in 2011.

I wonder if you guys make any distinction between hard scientific evidence, which is peer-reviewed and published and repeatable by any interested scientist, and mere speculation or hypothesis?

Good point. So how about:
- Biblical evidence?
Joshua 10:13, Habakkuk 3:11
Book of Mormon evidence?
Helaman 12:14-15
Written evidence from secular and religious
histories around the world?
Too many to mention but the sources include
Chinese history, Mesoamerican history and
Herodotus to name a few.
According to these accounts, the earth
DID stop rotating for several hours. When
did this happen? The accounts universally
agree that it happened around the middle
of the second millennium BC, which would
be at the time the Bible says that Joshua,
using the power of God, commanded the
sun to stand still.
Then if that isn't enough, just a quarter of a
century after the Scopes trial, a SCIENTIST
published a book declaring that within historical
times the earth did pause in its daily rotation,
and that for more than a day the sun remained
visible over Joshua and his troops.
http://www.harpers.org/subjects/WorldsInCollisionBook
I call your attention in particular to the first
article published by Harpers in 1950 entitled
"The Day the Sun Stood Still."
http://www.harpers.org/archive/1950/01/0005516
If it happened once in recorded history, it can
happen again.
That is...if one really believes the writings of
the prophets and what they say about the
power of God.
Were not Aristotle's writings once "peer-reviewed"
and "published" and repeated by interested
"scientists" of the time? And then some heretic
named Galileo came along and turned established
"science" on his head.
I believe God operates according to His own laws
and that we would be wise to remember that His
laws take priority in our efforts to discern what is
"mere speculation" and what is truth.
So-called "hard scientific evidence" has been
misinterpreted and reinterpreted time and time
again throughout history, and continues to
undergo such transformation today.
You of all people should know that, Doctor Jones.
Best Regards,
Sharon in Mississippi

You're right Dr Jones that it's most likely not a proven thing in the scientific community, although I still stand as saying that this theory would explain a whole lot of scriptural doctrine and prophecy.
Again, anyone recall the prophecy made by an early LDS prophet about the city of New York being submerged by water?

As for the prophecies about New York being destroyed, here's what I found:
D&C 84:114 "Nevertheless, let the bishop go unto the city of New York, also to the city of Albany, and also to the city of Boston, and warn the people of those cities with the sound of the gospel, with a loud voice, of the desolation and utter abolishment which await them if they do reject these things.
115 For if they do reject these things the hour of their judgment is nigh, and their house shall be left unto them desolate.
116 Let him trust in me and he shall not be confounded; and a hair of his head shall not fall to the ground unnoticed.
117 And verily I say unto you, the rest of my servants, go ye forth as your circumstances shall permit, in your several callings, unto the great and notable cities and villages, reproving the world in righteousness of all their unrighteous and ungodly deeds, setting forth clearly and understandingly the desolation of abomination in the last days.
118 For, with you saith the Lord Almighty, I will rend their kingdoms; I will not only shake the earth, but the starry heavens shall tremble.
119 For I, the Lord, have put forth my hand to exert the powers of heaven; ye cannot see it now, yet a little while and ye shall see it, and know that I am, and that I will come and reign with my people."
On 21 August 1863, the Saints had gathered in Logan, Utah to welcome President Brigham Young and others of the Church authorities. The next day, President Young asked Wilford Woodruff to address the congregation. He (Woodruff) told them, "Yea, the day will come, after your fathers, and these prophets and apostles are dead, you will have the privilege of going into the towers of a glorious Temple built unto the name of the Most High (pointing in the direction of the bench), east of us upon the Logan bench; and while you stand in the towers of the Temple and your eyes survey this glorious valley filled with cities and villages, occupied by tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints, you will then call to mind this visitation of President Young and his company. You will say: That was in the days when Presidents Benson and Maughan presided over us; that was before New York was destroyed by an earthquake; it was before Boston was swept into the sea, by the sea heaving itself beyond its bounds; it was before Albany was destroyed by fire; yea, at that time you will remember the scenes of this day. Treasure them up and forget them not. President Young followed and said: "What Brother Woodruff has said is revelation and will be fulfilled". (Deseret News, Vol. 33, page 678)
"A time is coming when the great and populous city of New York—the greatest city of the American Republic, will be left without inhabitants. The houses will stand, some of them, not all. They will stand there, but unoccupied, no people to inherit them. It will be the same in regard to numerous other cities, or, in the words of the Lord, I will throw down all their strongholds, and I will execute vengeance and fury upon them, even as upon the heathen, such as they have not heard. It will all be fulfilled. But there will be a remnant who will be spared. It will be those who repent of their sins; it will be those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and are willing to obey his commandments, willing to hearken to his voice, willing to be baptized for the remission of their sins, willing to be born of the spirit, or receive the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands, willing to walk uprightly and honestly with all men, and justly one with another." - Orson Pratt 1878
Newel K. Whitney's wife said ""My husband traveled with Joseph the Prophet through many of the eastern cities, bearing their testimony and collecting means to build a temple in Kirtland, and also to purchase lands in Missouri. During this journey they prophesied of the destruction that would come upon the cities of the eastern states, and especially New York; that in that city there would not be left a vestige of its grandeur; that wars would soon commence in our own land, which last has since transpired. He said to my husband, 'if they reject us they shall have our testimony, for we will write it and leave it upon their door-steps and window-sills.' He prophesied of desolation by fire, storms, pestilence and earthquakes."
Edgar Cayce seems to have the only 'prophecy' I can find on New York City specifically being destroyed by water. I'm still trying to figure out if he was inspired by the Lord or not. I take what he says with a large grain of salt.
If anyone else has more info on the New York destruction prophecy, I'd love to know it.

I read somewhere that The oil spill is causing the land to rise because of the pressure being released. That the oil is created in the earths crust and is not made from dinosaur bones; and is used for lubricating the faults in the earths crust. This is also causing the rise because the plates can not move like they need too. I read Australia has risen 15 fett. No where I read this, I can't find the link, but when I do I'll post it. It seems to me a massive earthquake as in the movie 2012 could be coming.....

Thanks for the quotes! I guess it wasn't New York City that was submerged, but rather Boston. Still, on that map, Boston would be underwater

Check out these videos:
http://www.nealadams.com/nmu.html to see an alternate theory of how the earth's land masses were together, separated, and could come back together. (Would also be curious as to Dr. Jones thoughts on this).
