I think that there are people in this generation who are maintaining that knowledge. Time may soon be coming that their knowledge will make these people very valuable resources.
I do not know a lot of those things, but I do try to pick up books with all kinds of specific useful knowledge that I feel is being "lost". It won;t be fun book learning and actually figuring out how to apply that knowledge, but it is better than not having the information at all and having to start from scratch.

Sadly i believe that the young people of not just our country but all over the world will be taking what they learn in the video games and applying it to the wars that will continue and escalate. Alot of these games are getting so realistic and are actually training the players in extremely realistic tactics, as a former soldier of the US Army and current but not avid gamer i have first hand knowledge of both and the line between real and a game is blurring.
This has a two-fold impact, one it creates people that are able to go out and recreate these tactics in a real life scenarios if they were to ever be called on, (still they lack the discipline taught in the military and the ability to handle the stresses of actual combat) however this leads to the second. This pre-conditioning is also creating situations where these wars are becoming increasingly likely because of the de-sensitization these games provide. So the same games that are teaching people how to fight, are also making those same fights more likely. Its a bad spiral.

I am am also a newbie. My name is jim and I am in ontario canada. I have purchased two hundred acers of land on Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia. land is still very cheap there but it is fertile and beautifull. The purpose of buying it, to be self relient. I know that Heavenly father is chastising all the nations right now in one way or another and I will be prepaired when things happen in my part of the world. I can grow just about anything, i have a well that is gravity fed to the house, I have planted an orchard and have deer, bear, partrige, rabbits and moose on the property along with a stream with trout in it. I will heat with wood and eventually run a wind generater for power. I have enough ammo. to last two life times for hunting and am a very good fisherman.
When I tell people what I have done and why they look at me like I"m some kind of nut.
Most of all I try to live that I have the Spirit Of The Lord with me that I can receive promptings when I am doing something that is right or something that is wrong.
Why is it that so many people stick their heads in the ground and think that our so called political leaders can handle anything that will happen? They cannot.

Welcome to the forum, chiloe and jimmy k. I grew up in Washington state and spent a lot of time in Canada, mostly BC. Great country. Relatives near Waterloo we love to visit.
Do you have any ham-radio gear? I would like to encourage a network of communicators so when the internet is taken down, we can still share news == world-wide.

This is a great idea! We had someone in our stake offer a class on ham radio operation a few years back, but we didn't have time. They are always asking for a few priesthood holders to learn...I guess the stake wants to be able to communicate, too.

My family is from the Canadian Maritime Provinces, and I considered having a retreat down there somewhere. But my wife and I decided we would rather be living in an area with a larger population of LDSs because of the greater opportunity of mutual support if the feathers hit the fan in our lifetime. Our kids and grandkids are pretty well planted here in Arizona, and so are we.

We need missionary minded members to settle on cape breton island, the church is very small there, but the oppertunity's for missionary work are great as there are native reserves all over the island. You can also have a retreat on one of the most beautifull places in the world.
