Important Holiday Coming in June, Midsummer

Midsummer has traditionally been a major holiday for people of the Former-day Saints, Church of Jesus Christ, Christians living in the North Country.
Why?
When Jesus Christ appeared to these lost tribes of Israel, he told them to work together by the Law. And that their working together by the Law was to be accountable to their church leaders annually and quarterly.
The second quarter or mid-year accounting of each stake (called wards in London) working together by the Law was called Midsummer.
So at each of these quarterly accountings there was much joy in the realization of living so successfully by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that they would have a celebration, and a holiday.
If any of your ancestors are from any of the tribes of the north or if you patriarchal blessing says you are from Ephraim or any of the other lost tribes of Israel then this is a traditional holiday for you.
How do you plan to celebrate it?
If you have never celebrated it or are contemplating doing so what are your thoughts?
God Bless,
Darren

Sounds interesting, but I've never even thought about it. How is it traditionally supposed to be celebrated?

Some communities actually have big events. I don't live in one of them. My suggestion is to have some family time, talk with your family about the achievements of the first half of the year, and how important goal setting is. We are going to have a bar-b-que. Some people do a bonfire.
Jesus Christ asked the Church of Former-day Saints, to affix their purposes to his (Moses 1:39) by the process of making and keeping goals. This is where we get New Years Resolutions from. Although that is now a silly thing that few people do anything enduring with.
Getting with the spirit of the FOUR major holidays of the lost tribes of Israel in Nordic Europe helps us in many ways. It helps us focus on Jesus Christ.
For a newbie to Midsummer, just make it fun for you and your family.
God Bless,
Darren

Maybe this type of focus is what we could do for the 4th of July this year (that or the 1st day of summer, which also happens to be a good day for me anyway--birthday).

I'm pretty much a yes man. Because of that, I like what you are saying. But you do refer to the church of former day saints. I'm not a member of that church, but of the latter-day saints, but I'd like to do this none the less. So my question is: why am I hearing about this on a private freedom forum, and not the church itself? I mean, if you want to eliminate porn, profanity, and poker which the saints seem to need constant warnings and which are no no no's, would it not be nice to just turn the focus to something else -- something like what we are being taught here?
We'll go camping at the lake and do some shooting and fishing. 8)

Once we discover the goodness to continue in from the Former-day Saints, it is as if we have come into the culture of these people who Thomas Jefferson said were just like the ancient children of Israel. And living this culture in its fullness is how we save the constitution.

A distracted people worry about the million and one sins, a focused people have only one thing on their minds. Seeking with all their might, mind and strength. Porn, etc. are symptoms of a distracted people. A people united in working together by the law has no time for porn, profanity and gambling.
The children of Israel in the wilderness had to operate by the lower law which dealt with the million and one penalties for the million and one sins. A holy people have only one law, and only one sin.
Sounds like you are going to have a good time.

Well said, yet again Darren. It makes me wonder how long rolling waters can remain impure, and it makes me give my head a shake how some just don't get it even when it is explained to them in words as plain as they can be.
Keep sharing Darren, keep building, for this and other similar things I keep coming back to this forum.

A holy people have only one law, and only one sin.
Darren, that's the best point I've heard anyone make on this forum, and one of the most perfect truths any disciple would cherish. That statement completed some thoughts I was having in church today. Zion is rising amidst all the darkness around us and I see it more every day.

Sin in Spanish (which word in Spanish is of Germanic origin) means Without.
Without what?
Sin means without sight, or to see not.
Using a Book of Mormon example: Lehi and his family see the Tree of Life, the Path and the Iron Rod. If the people seeking the Tree of Life take their sight away from the Tree of Life, no longer seek it, that is a textbook definition of Sin.
Sin literally means to See Not.
If you covenant at the Sacrament Table to "always remember Him" and you later take your eye, your remembering or mind's eye off of Him, that is Sin.
The word Evil comes from the Germanic word Übel, which literally means to step off of the path.
If you are on the path that leads to the Tree of Life, and you take your eye off of the Tree (the Savior), that is the mental act of Sin, and if you step off of the path, that is the physical act of Evil.
There is only one sin, taking your eye off of the Tree of Life and looking elsewhere. And Evil is stepping off of the path as a result. We can talk about the million and one looking elsewheres and call them the million and one sins, but there is really only one sin. The talked about million and one sins are just the million and one other possible places to instead look at or the infinite number of objects to look at to accomplish the same and single sin of NOT looking to Jesus Christ.
Jesus was sinless, because he did everything he saw his Father do, he sought to do the will of the Father always. We are perfect and sinless going forward if we look to Christ by the light of the Holy Ghost, always.
Zion is a people who live by their Sacrament Covenant to "always remember Him." According to Thomas Jefferson, the Anglo-Saxons did it best, and we have enough understanding of their culture to get back to that. So why don't we do it? As Jefferson hoped we would some day in his vision for America.
It looks like the cleansing comes first, as perhaps we as a people appear to be waiting for some other group of people to show us the way, i.e. lost tribes coming from the north, city of Enoch coming from heaven, Adam-ondi-Ahman attendees? I admit it would be a feeble attempt at this late juncture. But why not try to save the constitution by living by the Law in the manner and way the ancient Anglo-Saxons did so? To me that is the whole purpose of the Scriptures of the lost tribes of Israel, to give us president and standing to "continue in My goodness" (D&C 86:8-11) of the Anglo-Saxon ancestors of Joseph Smith, and once again live the Anglo-Saxon principle of "Free and Common Socage" which is the same thing as Consecration and Stewardship.
Living by Socage is how a community maintains a sinless existence, their "children grow up without sin unto salvation."
God Bless,
Darren

Today is the longest day of the year. Midsummer celebrations usually take place on the first weekend after the longest day of the year. Although celebrating tonight is ok too. It is interesting to go out side around midnight and see if you can still see a bit of that dusk in the north.
The important thing to do during Midsummer is to reflect upon your yearly goal and evaluate your current progress toward that goal. Accountability is also part of what this semi-annual event includes. In a fully functioning "Law of Consecration and Stewardship" society reporting would be made and the business progress of the Stakes and Wards would be evaluated. The two semi-annual Stake conferences of the Nordic folks were for conducting the business of the Church in accomplishing the goals of these areas.
Midsummer from time immemorial has traditionally been a Church Holiday. Hope you enjoy yours.
God Bless,
Darren

Thanks for the reminder, Darren!
Any reason to get away from the doom
and gloom long enough to celebrate and
remember with gratitude the blessings so
abundantly poured out on me and my house
since the beginning of the year is reason
enough for me!
Wishin' y'all a wonder-FULL first day of
summer--and for those of you in the
southern hemisphere, I'm wishin' y'all
a wonder-FULL first day of winter!
Best Regards,
Sharon in Mississippi

Darren, you'll never know how much "reflection" you've caused in my life the past couple weeks.

I celebrated Midsummer with some intensive gardening and housecleaning. I think that falls within the spirit of the holiday

This looks a lot like the Midsommar celebration held every year by the Stockholm stake, but I cannot be sure:
