In writing in another forum topic,
http://www.ldsfreedomforum.com/viewtopi ... =2&t=11867, it occured to me that it might be as valuable to know which plants to avoid when foraging for wild edibles. Therefore I will be including this thread on which plants to avoid or use with caution. This week, a plant I have an all too unfortunate personal knowlege of; Jimson Weed or Datura:

Bad, bad, bad no touchy not even ever no way. BAAAAAAAAD STUUFFFFFFF. Death almost assured (I'm lucky to be alive) so don't even think about it. Here's the link to jimson weed poisoning:

Oh in case I forgot to mention, BAD STUFF!

Smallfarm my sister grew these in a pot at her house. Did you actually eat some part of this plant? -Would like to hear what happened.

I ate half a pod of seeds. I did this in my wreckless youth and was trying to have a spiritual experience

, well I had one so to speak. Nearly blind for 24 hrs with a white "death sheen" over my eyes (that's what I called it). I did not hallucinate but thought I'd die of thirst. Water only made it worse because it washed down what little saliva I could produce. I felt like my bladder was going to explode but couldn't even pee a drop. Oh and I couldn't tell anyone because I lived in a homeless shelter for young people that would've kicked me out.
These are quite common as house plants and garden ornamentals. Most people don't know they are poisonous and sometimes kids try to get high off of them.

Was browsing a gardening site and ran into this yummy looking but extremely toxic plant so I thought I'd post it here:

All parts of the plant extremely toxic. Native Americans used the juice from the berries to make poison dart arrows.

Seems like my wife was talking about planting a "ranunculous" earlier this year.

Hey you never know... you might need to make some poison dart arrows someday. The poison from this berry will stop the heart as soon as it enters the bloodstream.
