Should we obey all laws passed? based on what scripture/words of the Prophets?

Should we only obey some? Which, why, and based on what scripture/words of the Prophets?

Quick answer because I'm pressed for time: Only those that are Constitutional- yes I realize that really opens the door, most "laws" aren't.

I studied this out and in the Doctrine and Covenants it teaches us to befriend laws that are Constitutional.

On a personal level I ignore all Un-Constitutional laws, ordinances, and people

No one else has a comment? Yes Mosby. In fact, we are commanded to forsake all laws which are unconstitutional in D&C 98:11 (read 6-7 then 11 for context)

So which laws are "more or less"? What is a good way to tell?

How does that "jive" with what most believe article of faith 12 says?

on a side note Mosby. I was visiting a Ward in St George/Washington about a year or so ago (I am assuming you are in that area) where Sacrament meeting had some pro Obama stuff going on. Is that normal?

What would be a few examples of un-constitutional laws to which you are referring?

Obey the Spirit. If the Spirit prompts you to disobey any law, I think we all know what the right answer is. If the Spirit prompts you to obey a law, even if you personally think it is an unjust law, I think we all know what the right answer is. And if there are laws that we have questions about, pray until you know what to do.

There is no One Size Fits All answer to the question. (other than this one! )

Well said OI. The spirit will ultimately testify to you of the correct path to take. True test is if we listen.

It all depends if the "laws" apply to you. Are you a "Person"? Are you a "Taxpayer"? Are you a "Gun Owner"? Are you a "Driver"? Have you "submitted" (begged) to "apply" to "register" for a "license"? Do you have a "Taxpayer/Employee Identification Number" (SSN)? If so then yes you are an infant/slave and the nanny (State) needs to take care of you and you need to follow her rules since you have provided your free will and consent to do so by "submitting" to them and not declaring that you are not any of these legal fictions and are a grown adult human being that doesn't need a Nanny any more.

Not normal in my ward- you would have known if it was my ward, I would have shut that nonsense down just as quickly as I would if someone was going pro- McCain, Bush, Romney.......basically anyone (except Ron Paul of course  )

That actually surprises me a little (not really we have a lot of cluelessness in the faith politicallly) - but Washington County is about as Conservative as it gets- many still worship Bush- :x gag.....

That's a tough one, I've struggled with it. It almost seems to contradict itself- "only befriend law which is Constitutional" (D&C) - then the 12th Article of faith- who knows :?

I think O.I answered this about as good as you can. - On a personal side, I know where my "law limits" are set.........

Well, it's easier to name the laws that aren't Un-Constitutional than the ones that actually are

The list of Un- Constitutional laws in our country is massive, I would guess that under the founder's orginal views well over 60- 80% of all laws on the books would be Un- Constitutional- that number may be higher- but I'm no scholar, that's just a guess.

Yup.........I agree...............and do it.......if there is a law you "don't obey", don't tell anybody, they might try to get you excommunicated..........."box people"

That is a bit harsh. Most of us had no choice as to if we have an SSN or not.

nah, it is easy. the 12th does not say what most think it says. They do not know the English language.
