What movies best represent your view of events and living conditions when the trouble starts?
Mine would be a blend of
Jericho
Red Dawn
I am Legend

Like you, I envision somewhat of a mix. For some areas, probably small towns or where the Church is strong, I see things playing out sort of like Jericho. For other areas I see them being more along the lines of
The Road (I read the book, but didn't see the movie) — bleak post-apocalyptic lands filled with some of the worst horrors imaginable.

Given the fact i have never seen Jericho, count that out of my opinion. But im not sure any movie can really capture what the earth is going to be like during these events. Im not sure we as humans are even capable of imagining such terrible conditions to put into a screenplay.
