Creepy Phone Call...

So. A month back or so I received a phone call from a fellow prepper. In the conversation I told her of multiple accounts by people I know who told of stake directories being sold at gun shows...so that people can know where to go and get their food storage. My friend was amazed that such a thing would be happening.
Till now. She just called me all excited and said that she just got a phone call from a man who said he was trying to locate some people in the stake...but thought that they had moved. He said that "Brother so-and-so was going to show me how to put my food storage under my stairs". He used that subject to ask my friend about how much food storage she had. She carefully said "Some". My friend was suspicious and asked a few questions and found out the guy was calling CA from Oregon. She wondered why he would have to contact someone out of state to get that kind of info. The man asked "Do you hunt much?". She said "not really"...and then he said something about a gun show and she asked "That must be where you got your stake directory from"...then he hung up.
Connecting the dots. Basically...here was a guy...calling through a stake directory to find out who had food storage...and to see who was armed. Either he was doing it for his own use...or to be resold to interested parties. Creepy.
On a side note. I just purchased a CA legal Saiga AK-47. Sweet!

That's disturbing. I wonder if the Chruch is aware of this. And how common it is. My guess is it's either a raider whose ideas of being prepared is to find out who is preapred, or the gov't just checking up to see.

'Though evil abounds in the world and violence grows by the day, He will watch over us if we are true. He has pledged to protect the righteous even if He must send down fire from heaven to do so. (See D&C 35:14.)' Mark E. Peterson ( Ensign may 1982, Even As I Am)

I have posted this before, but I will post it again:
In the late 60s or early 70s, food prices were doubling and tripleing by the day. One time I went to the store, looked at one item, and couldn't decide whether to buy it. I went and did the rest of my shopping, then came back to get that item, and it had gone up $2 in price--just while I walked around the store.
At church, the bishop read a letter from the Stake President to us. Someone was calling members of the stake, telling them that he was calling for the Stake President. He said that the SP was concerned about the people in the stake and how prepared they were, and wanted to know how much food storage each family had. Then the ones that had food storage were robbed of it.
The letter went on to say that if such a survey were taken, it would be through proper priesthood channels, but at that time there was no such survey.
We need to be careful who knows about our storage.
As for beling taken care of by the Lord, I know several people who have had their food storage stolen.

Interesting story. Wow.
The woman said that she went to our stake president to let him know what was going on and he told her that written on the inside cover it says "For church purposes only". As if to say that the bad guys would heed that warning!! She told him that she didn't think they would care about that...and he saw his error. He reportedly said "Would people really do that?!!" She responded "Yes...you should talk to Stephen!" She told me..."You might be getting a phone call". Nice.

Recently I've had people who I worked with (who at the time did not know I was LDS) mention that when times got hard, they would go find the Mormon families to get food.
They wouldn't believe me when I said that only about 10% of the Mormons have any storage at all.
I've taught preparedness lessons at church, and someone would always make a crack that they would come over to my house... I tell them to bring work gloves, and garden tools, and I would try to find something for them to do to trade for 1 Cup of wheat.
When I taught, I would always read the story about Joseph in Egypt, and the 7 years of plenty and 7 years of famine. I would point out that Joseph traded food for money, then when the money failed, he traded food for animals, then land, then the people indentured themselves for food. Then Joseph put forth a program where the people would be self sufficient, pay a tax, and keep a portion of the grain for next years planting.
The Lords program of Welfare is not free... You have to work for what you receive.
I don't mind helping others, after my own stewardship is taken care of.

Friend of mine who is not a member and lives in a gated community in Park City has told me several times she knows which house she'll hit...which window she'll crawl through....etc etc
When the full economic impact hits home.....and people are literally starving in the streets.....expect some serious resentment, hate, and physical action by those not prepared....whether they are non-member or even members!

If it comes all of a sudden in the form of an all out nuclear attack and fallout us everywhere, who will be able to go outside to hunt up someone else’s food?

That's just one of a million scenarios.....could be earthquakes, economics, volcanoes, hurricanes, wars, riots, tsunamis, etc, etc, etc....or combination of them all!

It's this kind of talk that has got me thinking that some kind of a "call-out" would make sense. I'm not saying it will happen, but hear me out on this. What happens to the LDS who has their food storage in an area where there aren't other members? Let's say the people are silently thinking they'll hit the house if bad times come. Obviously the Lord knows what will happen and when. He prepares his people in advance. At least those that are listening and acting. I could envision a call-out happening before things get terribly bad. That way, the people will be out of harms way, if they so choose to leave, before people come with their weapons. In this way, those that have been obedient in preparation, will be guided out BEFORE others see the need to break-in. Lehi's family was led out before Jerusalem was destroyed. I can see something similar to this happening. Only time will tell.

We need to be prepared for any scenario, including protecting our families and our preparations. Just so I'm clear, that doesn't mean I'm advocating "not sharing" (let's not get into that again). I wouldn't have any problem providing a small amount of food to someone in dire need. But the best advice I've heard went something along the lines of:
"If your neighbors have guns and you don't, your food storage just became their food storage."

You can give them our name, address and phone number....oh, also be sure to
give him the names of our 3 Rottweiler dogs, 2 Chihuahuas and 1 MEAN Aussie.
Don't own any guns, just a couple of axes, one we keep behind the front door.
Also don't have much in the way of food storage, but he's welcome to come help
milk to cows and help gather the eggs...that is if he ain't afraid of our fighting
rooster running loose and the big Rhode Island Red rooster in with the laying hens.
Also forgot, tell him he'd better call before he comes because we have to unlock
and open the gate. If he climbs over the fence he'll have to run really fast, or our Jersey bull, Manfred will
likely catch him in the front pasture before he can make it to the house. If he decides
to come in the back way, he'll have to swim the canal, watch out for the rattlesnakes
they are pretty thick this time of year, but he'll have to outrun our black Quarter horse
stallion in the back pasture. He don't like visitors messin with his herd of mares.
Last thing....be sure to watch out for the Russian olive trees lining the fences, they
will rip the clothes right off your back with all those long stickers.

In the high mountain valley of central Utah. Tell those that want to invade to 'bring it on!' We can spot anyone coming
to our place about 5 miles off. By the time you get to the end of our dirt road (1/2 mile long) we can have dinner waiting.
You're welcome to join us to eat...just leave your guns in the car. Don't bother trying to sneek up if you want our food
supply, especially at night or YOU will be on the menu. Lots of bears, mountain lions, and coyotes live in our neighborhood.

Axes are great for chopping chickens heads off and splitting fire wood, but they aren't much of a defense against someone armed with a real weapon. Neither is a bull or horse. A .30-06 would make quick work of either. I think the local slaughter house kills bulls with a .38 special or something like that. Even dogs don't last long against firearms or even poison. I would suggest you arm yourselves with real weapons if you feel there is a threat. Bears, mountain lions, and coyotes will not likely attack people in areas where they are hunted. They generally avoid people, except for a bear that I had to give some .44 mag persuasion to a couple summers back while camping with some of my kids. I didn't hurt it, just made sure it realized it would die if it tried to eat us. After I scared it away the first time, it circled around down wind from us for another try. That time, instead of shooting 50 feet from it, I put a bullet ~10 feet from it. After the first shot, it just walked down wind of us, like it wasn't too concerned. After shooting a bit closer, it finally decided to run.

We've already gone through our fiery furnace and pretty much used up our remaining resources. Slowly, ever so slowly, we are building back up.
I feel for those who have gone through their own trials by nature (tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, floods, etc), and coercion (government takeovers, foreclosures, medical expenses, etc.).
Rainy day resources seem to help quench fiery furnaces.

You don't want to give me a gun. I 'd rather have the warning systems in place. BIG deterrent.

You're right. I don't want to give you a gun. I think you should consider the common sense benefits of owning one and purchase one yourself. My previous post showed the weakness in your deterrence theory. I guess you didn't read it.

They do, indeed!
Sometimes, though, we need helping hands when our own two simply aren't enough to do what needs to be done.
I would dearly love to see the Latter-day Saints so united in their efforts that it is obvious to the 'world' we not only help non-members in times of crisis, but we are true brothers and sisters
in every respect for each other in the Church.
When that day comes, a Stake inventory of everyone's assets will have no value to thieves.

That is one of the scariest things I have ever heard of. So when the Smurfs Hit the Fan, maybe Utah won't be the safest place to live.
Forget about Sturgess... it'll be like a biker raid of Utah... except these won't be wannabee bikers that are really executives.
