What is your current Church calling?
What is your actual current Church, ward, or stake calling (besides home teacher)? Not what you used to be, not what you are aspiring to be. Would be interesting to see. If I missed your calling in the poll, it is either because I did not find it significant enough or I could not fit it. (Just joking of course.)

Re: What is your current Church calling?
Wife and I teach Sunbeams. The best calling in the Church.
Where else can you spend time with your spouse talking about the gospel with Celestial Spirits.
4 years in Sunbeams, 2 years in Nursery, now back in Sunbeams...

Re: What is your current Church calling?
I teach the 14-15 year olds.
I have no aspirations whatsoever. My dad was a bishop and was in the stake presidency and all I can say is no thanks.
The Lord has blessed me with callings that I have very much enjoyed while I had them, but I was also ready to be released from them all when the time came!
Probably the toughest calling was the two years I did nursery (two different callings). I didn't mind the kids, but I did miss Sunday School.

Re: What is your current Church calling?
They did something rare w me. ( I think)
I've only been reactivated for about 5 years, for the last 2, I've been 1st Counselor in EQ.
Then I just got a call from the SP last week, and they wanted to speak me and my wife early in the morning. My wife is a Non Member but they always include her in these types of consultations etc.
Anyway, I'm only 47 and they are ordaining me a High Priest, and also as 2nd Counselor in that group.
Come to find out later, the new incoming group leader explained in his testimony in HP Quorum that altho he was presented with a suitable list of candidates from the Stake Presidency, he handed it back and said "none of these will work" and went to the Temple and made it a matter of prayer-and was given his answer: and he said that this is why I was pulled up.
Am I perplexed? Yes. We have an affluent and established ward, there were 10-15 eligible candidates that we're available. However, our new group leader, under inspiration-went another way: way outside of the box.
Maybe they need me to keep the older guys awake, plus I'm huge on home teaching-no slack in that.
Needless to say, it's humbling and exciting-so we shall see.
I do feel bad for our EQ President, it was like he was going to cry on me when he found out.
Wish me luck.

Re: What is your current Church calling?
notjamesbond003.5, this proves the church is true and is led by God.
Actually, I think you might have hit on something.....home teaching. I am dismayed at how many people in the church take the calling of home teacher and visiting teacher lightly. In this time of gathering and missionary work, that may be one of the most important callings in the whole church. The home and visiting teachers are often the only contact inactives have with the church. And in the times ahead, they (we) may hold an even more important role.
Let me tell you about my son-in-law. He had resisted learning about the gospel for the first five years he was married to my daughter. Then last year a miracle happened. His heart was softened, he listened to the missionaries and joined the church in April. Within three months he was made an elder and called to be second counselor in the elder's quorum. I'm sure there were many who were surprised that a more experienced elder wasn't called, but my son-in-law has been terrific. He's very committed and dependable. Same with my daughter. She was only active for a few months last year when they called her to be a counselor in the RS pres'y. Again, she had no experience but she has been so diligent in this calling and I've been able to see why the Lord chose both of these fine young people.

Amen to that. Out of all these callings in the church home teaching is the most important and luckily for us there is plenty of home/visiting teaching to go around so everyone can participate. I have been EQ President for a little while and always tried my best to do my home teaching but I can tell you how much the bishop appreciates those who are diligent in serving their families as home teachers. It makes all the difference in the world to the families you home teach regardless if they seem to be the most active or the least active member in the church.

Im just a humble servant of the Lord Jesus Christ who will do anything the Bishop or Stake President asks, as long as its not illegal or immoral.
I don't get home very often as I don't own an Executive Jet and for some strange reason Jon Huntsman won't loan me his?!
Last calling...Ward Clerk

Re: What is your current Church calling?
My favorite calling was Sunbeam teacher with my husband also! I've been called as sunbeam teacher about four times, once with my husband, and then we co-taught older kids. It was the best!
Now I'm counselor in the Primary and it's pretty fun, too... but I'd trade back!
My dream job is ward librarian, but ours says she'll never give it up.
Worst jobs for me would be young women's pres (too much drama), RS pres (I know what that's about ((more drama)) - no thanks!).

Agreed, and it's a no lose sitituation when you fulfill your calling.
My perspective is when standing next to The Savior in the hereafter, and we review my life and He could be saying something like:
"David, remember that Saturday I prompted you to go visit that less active person/family, well here's what happened that day (insert negative scenario) when you didn't. Here's what would of happen if you did (insert positive scenario)."
I want to do my best to create positive scenarios while on earth.
My point is, not only do I want to have my own personal house in order, but assist those I'm assign to and assist to help them too, no matter where theyre at in their spiritual growth, and do it lovingly. And no one has ever turn away a plate of cookies from me.

My wife absolutely loved being YW's president. Not much drama either but that probably says more about our ward than anything. The worst part for me was the time commitment.ChelC wrote:Worst jobs for me would be young women's pres (too much drama), RS pres (I know what that's about ((more drama)) - no thanks!).

Re: What is your current Church calling?
Just released from Gospel Principles teacher for investigators & new converts after 3 1/2 years.
I asked for the release as we have had no Home Teacher in nearly 5 years nor Visiting Teachers in 2 1/2 years. Both my fairly new (3 year) convert to the Church husband & I have ONLY non-member Home & Visiting Teaching assignments. We visit our assigned families. We have very little contact with active members of the Church either on Sunday or at any other time.
Since its such a long drive to Church we thought perhaps we could at least be in the same SS class together with active LDS. We have been to only two Gospel Doctrine classes since my release. The teacher is very well researched, but so far has encouraged no class participation. He does it all! He answers the few questions he puts forth, ignoring any raised hands.
I am also a Temple Worker at the Bismarck, ND Temple twice a month. I will be able to increase that as the days get longer & I don't have to drive in the dark to get there & back.

Shadow, you've spoken about my calling and your wife's calling, what about your calling? President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostates maybe? Or is it picker-upper of the horse-puckeys?shadow wrote:My wife absolutely loved being YW's president. Not much drama either but that probably says more about our ward than anything.
