The sun and 2012

I've been doing some research on the subject of 2012 and have come to a few conclusions. First, there is not going to be a massive upheaval of the earth with tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. resulting in millions of dead people or anything catastrophic that is going to end the world as we know it on 12/21/12. However, it does appear as though our sun could become quite active and cause some serious problems for us here on earth. The basic premise is that Jupiter and Saturn will both align on the same side of the sun prior to 12/21/12, which is going to cause extra gravitational pull on the sun, resulting in some very powerful solar flares and CME's (coronal mass ejections). While it sounds silly that two planets could exhibit forces on the sun causing it to act up, the last time these two planets aligned on the same side of the sun was about 14,500 years ago, which produced a solar maximum that resulted in massive solar flares that not only fried the earth, but also the moon. Recently de-classified information from NASA reveals that astronauts found small pools of glass on the moon during prior Apollo missions and the only way that could have happened was from some serious heat, most likely from the sun. Archaeologists and Paleontologists have uncovered evidence of this solar burst in artifacts and geological digs. The link above does a great job of explaining all of this and the ramifications for December, 2012. If what is anticipated and expected occurs as predicted, our technological infrastructure could suffer a serious setback almost 3 years from now. Interesting stuff.

OK, just checked with my science expert (my Father) and he thinks this article about Jupiter and Saturn having a gravitational effect on the sun is pure nonsense... this was his reply when I sent him the link to this thread:

When they align, nothing happens to the sun. Jupiter has a surface gravity of 2.5 compared to earth; the sun's is 27 compared to the earth at 1.0.

Jupiter does have a very strong magnetic field because of liquid hydrogen; the hydrogen remains liquid and not gas owing to the huge atmospheric presssure on Jupiter. Neither Jupiter's magnetic or gravity fields have any affect on the sun, pure nonsense.

Gotta fact check these things you know.

I think that proves there's a lot of misinformation being intentionally placed out there in regard to 2012. Maybe we'll get so worked-up we'll cry for a savior to save us from disaster...

The discovery channel were pushing out something about the Sun and Planets lining up with the centre of the milky way on Dec21, 2012.

Maybe this is where we get sucked back to our original position next to Kolob or something? weeeeeeeeeeeeeee........... 8)

I read a book by Widtoe called Joseph Smith as Scientist. In it he discussed the topic of the ether that fills the universe. I couldn't wrap my head around that one. I was taught that their was a vacuum in space. Since the prophet said it, I went looking.
A theory that an ether filled the space between all things was prevelant for a long time. Two scientists tried an experiment on light. It didn't work out like they thought it would and in no time the ether theory was thrown out. With it's dismissal Eistein's theory of relativity and other's took hold leading to our concept of modern physics. Well modern physics looks great on a chalk board but has a whole lot of exceptions and assumptions to make it work. Apparently it cant yet accurately describe small and large scale events without exceptions and assumptions.
The theories about the electric or plasma universe seem more in line with what Joseph Smith revealed. If this theory is correct, our sun is an electromagnetic engine effected by Birklind (sp?) currents. So gravity (being a weak force) isn't a concern but the electromagnetic interactions with everything lining up might be.
Oddly enough, studing about physics led me to this forum. Sometimes life's bread crumbs lead us on a strange journey!

2012, December 23rd, the Mayan calendar ends (or better ends it’s major cycle) This calendar was begun in about 3114 BC and can still predict all the eclipes’ of this solar system to the day. It ends Dec. 23rd, 2012.

2012, the Great Pyramid of Cheop’s, thought by many to be a giant stone calendar of the history of the world. The great corridor calendar has managed to show each major event in the history of the world, even though it was built before 2,000 BC. It ends in 2012.

What is the question?

As we all know, President Hinckley is very educated and is very adept at the use of the English language. In the talk in 1998 and in 2005 he used the word “portent”. Lets take a look at the definitions of “portent”.

I think the adversary wants to instill fear and distraction in our hearts. Really we are just supposed to be doing what prophets have always said, be prepared...
