What is your ward/stake focused on right now?
My mom and I are in different wards and we were just talking about how missionary work seemed to be the big focus for the past couple of years at church, but it seems like now, both of our wards are focusing HUGE on getting people to the temple. Makes me wonder if we are past the "hastening" part and now working on eternal salvation......

Isn't "working on eternal salvation" always urgent?myeyesareopen wrote:My mom and I are in different wards and we were just talking about how missionary work seemed to be the big focus for the past couple of years at church, but it seems like now, both of our wards are focusing HUGE on getting people to the temple. Just getting to the temple doesn't inherently save anyone; it's their to simply point one to Christ to get the real endowment/fullness/power from Jesus Christ and His Father.
Remember the age old adage, haste makes waste.
It's never too late. His hands are always out-stretched to bring us into his presence, whenever we are ready.

Temple work is essential to the hastening of the Lord's work.
Joseph Smith stated in what has become known as the King Follett Sermon that it is the most important responsibility we have.
Sounds like both your wards have it right.

Our stake has been focusing on the gathering/rescue since we were formed. Everything is tied to finding those that are lost, both in and out of the church. The ward councils are to focus on this and it has been very nice to watch them engage in working to bring all to Christ.
I work with the YSA, and they have made it a point to visit different wards each month and visit the less active. The ward reps come up with the names, and they spend a couple of hours visiting those people.

As a temple worker I hope the wards and stakes strike a balance between missionary work and temple and family hist work. My stake is consumed with missionary work with nary a mention about the temple. Other stakes must be doing this too because attendance is so very low at the temple. Yet fam hist and temple work are essential to our salvation, our ability to be in the highest portion of the Celestial kingdom. Missionary work is important but can't get you salvation. It can help but only through the blood of Christ can we be saviours on mount zion and do for others what they can't do for themselves. We become a salvation journal to tem.

We just did a 5th Sunday lesson on missionary work and I had speakers talk on both temple work and proclaiming the gospel as I think they are both part of hastening the work. I was in the temple for Saturday session in the afternoon. We were all barely able to fit in the session which was good to see. It will be interesting to see what things look like after Phoenix open up.

Re: What is your ward/stake focused on right now?
In our work we are doing special fast for the missionaries in our ward set a date for a baptism and working toward getting someone ready. We had ward conference last week and we were reminded of truly fasting and prayer and those who can't to be in the spirit of fasting. how we draw closer to the Lord when we do and also to listen for the influence of Holy Ghost. It was a very spiritual meeting and I thought that we were warned we should not just go through the motions to be a good Christian but we should be fully immersed in the Gospel and fully converted, you know - striving to be perfected saints.

Follow the prophet. Get others to follow the prophet.

Big focus right now from the stake on the Ogden Temple dedication, indexing, finding another ward within the stake boundaries (missionary work). My stake also has a vision statement that includes becoming a "Zion people."
The ward focus has been the same, but missionary work, family history, and welfare figure very prominently.

Our ward seems to be focused on worshiping the temple, er, I mean worshiping AT the temple. Also, following priesthood leaders, missionary work, and home teaching. Oh yeah, every once in a while they mention this guy named Jesus.

It's hard to say. I usually zone out right after the sacrament is done.

I don't remember the exact chapter and verse, but it's right between the one that says to blindly follow ecclesiastical leaders and the one that commands you not to think for yourself.sen6b wrote:I bet your cynical attitude would be WAYYY more constructive right? What was that scripture again where Jesus said to complain about EVERYTHING in the church??? I forget.Jake wrote:Our ward seems to be focused on worshiping the temple, er, I mean worshiping AT the temple. Also, following priesthood leaders, missionary work, and home teaching. "Follow the Prophet" is a great primary song. It talks of Adam, Enoch, Noah, Moses, etc. and then states that the world is confused and by heeding the prophet's counsel we can be safe.sen6b wrote:
Lmao Y'all must be going to a different church than me. That's not what we do at mine....or any other that I've even been to. Sounds like some people on here take one little thing and blow it WAYYYYY out of proportion. My kids have said they have never heard the follow the prophet song.
Your focusing on the wrong things guys. We talk about Jesus every single week. LITERALLY. If you live on a ward that doesn't go to a different ward.
We get out of church what we want. If we are a 'one note' person, then we will be sorely disappointed (several on this board I think of as 'one note' and can't seem to get off of it). But if you are looking to be uplifted, edified, and have your testimony in Christ and the latter day restoration strengthened, that is what you will find.
I'm glad I fall into the latter category.

sen6b - In my adult life in church I have taught primary for 15 years in 3 different wards in 2 states. if your kids have not heard the FTP song, they are not paying attention in primary. it is sung probably in 25 discreet weeks during the year, and multiple times each week it is sung. if they really haven't absorbed it, please do some testing, find out why it hasn't taken, then sell it. you'll be wealthy soon.

Lots of songs on Jesus too, like trying to be like Him.Obrien wrote:sen6b - In my adult life in church I have taught primary for 15 years in 3 different wards in 2 states. if your kids have not heard the FTP song, they are not paying attention in primary. it is sung probably in 25 discreet weeks during the year, and multiple times each week it is sung. if they really haven't absorbed it, please do some testing, find out why it hasn't taken, then sell it. you'll be wealthy soon.
Maybe our attitudes affect what we hear....I certainly wouldn't want to be in some of your wards.
