The sad thing is this will seem like a victory to a lot of people. Oh, how easy it is to forget.

agreed...We need to follow what we learn from the Book of Mormon and NOT let this win let us sink back into ease because of the relief.

 And don't forget just like in 1994. I remember well, back in those days with the Contract with (on) America, and how I and many others thought the republican landslide would save us from Clinton. I hung the cover from Time magazine in my cubicle (see below) when I was living in liberal infested Oregon.

Ahh innocence....Little did we know that they would just continue us on the march to socialism and big government and eroded freedoms. I wish there were a follow-up image for that cover, that showed the next step landing on the constitution. I feel sorry for my friends who either are to young to rememeber or too ignorant. Our current two-party system is just smoke and mirrors.

All that comes to mind is this quote:
"The chief problem of American political life for a long time has been how to make the two Congressional parties more national and international. The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead the two parties should be almost identical, so the that American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy."

Carrol Quigley
What we have to hope and fight for is to keep people paying attention with all the fervor of the kids on Nightmare on Elm Street. It won't be an easy task.

This is one of the things that frustrates me most with the American people. This smoke and mirrors trick has been going on for a long time now. There is no good excuse for the ignorance at this point. I don't see how it is anything but pure laziness and self-inflicted stupidity. A few hours of study comparing the actions of Bush and Obama should be enough to let anyone cut through the rhetoric and see how little difference there is between the two parties.

Ahh, but they make the "differences" just dear to the heart enough that it is hard to completely ignore the pull. What I am talking about are social issues. The major difference between the two parties is their purported stances on the issues that are important to the two major groups of people. Many cannot in good conscience "allow" the opposing party to win a majority if it would mean a blow to their valued issue. At least that is how it has been for years. This year, I am pretty sure it was a "throw the bums out" party, although, silly little Iowa didn't quite catch on...
