For some time after the First World War, Steiner was active as a lecturer in social reform. The petition, which expressed his basic social ideas, was widely circulated and signed by many cultural figures of the time, including Hermann Hesse. In Toward Regeneration, Steiner's major book on social reform, he argued that the cultural, political, and economic spheres of society need to work together as conscious but independent entities, each with its own specific challenges, suggesting that there are challenges and that the political system needs to be improved. They get satisfaction not from their own work, but from the work of others. He expressed another aspect of this thing in his motto. A healthy social life is found when each person's soul is reflected in the mirror, when the community as a whole is reflected in that mirror, and when each person's virtues are lived in the community.
