I just received a survey as they are considering name changes. Can someone help me figure out how to upload pics? I can never get it to work on here for some reason.

The PISS program, we had a Bishopric Counselor that let that slip out the very day they introduced it on that 5th Sunday what 6-7 years ago?
Forget what they stand for these days, my youth are adults and I haven’t been to church since Dec 2019(liberating it is)

They could start by giving the YWs classes names again.

Not sure who was offended by the old names, but to take away the girls identity was a mistake.

They told the girls to choose their own names...and Pink Dragons, Lady Warriors , Lady Bugs didn't stick

So they took to calling them "the class formerly known as Beehives" until they were reprimanded, then it became YW ages 12-13, but that didn't work because the classes were organized by birth year, so it became "The class for girls who thave turned or will turn 12 or 13 this calendar year" which is so much harder to put on the ward Facebook page than simply saying "Beehive".

Sometimes I wonder if the curriculum people at CHQ have kids.

The idea that 11-12 year old would make meaningful, measurable goals is highly dubious.

It's like the suggestions in the kids teaching manuals...one week it suggested the teachers have the kids look around the room for objects....have they seen a classroom --they are closets with chairs. Same manual suggested hiding things in the room...geez.

Then they want kids to lead discussions, and teach lessons, and share experiences when they can't get adults to stay on topic in sacrament meeting how do they expect 13 year old Jimmy to lead a discussion about how the Book of Titus helps him proclaim the gospel to his ancestors.

I think they were trying to push towards women getting the Priesthood; so do away with class names in preparation for priestesshood class names.

COVID seemed to put a halt on any major efforts like that, and Nelson is now getting really old, so his reign is coming to a close...

I think it had something to do with some of the YW class names not translating well to other languages or something. Like Mia Maid maybe?
They did the same thing to our girls camp names too. And primary, for that matter. We used to have yearlings, mountaineers, adventurers, at girls camp. And primary used to have sunbeams, stars, trailblazers, merrie miss. We still have sunbeams, but that’s it.
But I agree they shouldn’t have just taken the names away and not given new names.
It reminds me of The Giver which I watched recently. They call the class of nine year olds, The Nines. Or something like that. Very boring and dumb names.

I had same thought. Names don't have to be direct translations. It'd be very easy to do something like you suggest.

No! Everything must be standardized! We must correlate!

It's unfortunate that other cultures and languages were so limited that someone couldn't find an alternative word which conveyed similar meanings to the original intent of the complex english words like "beehive" "maid" or "laurel".

My nephews were excited about those goals! Unfortunately, leaders dropped the ball with no follow up and continuation, and I haven't heard anything about goals from anyone in any organization since about a year after that (which has been a few years now).

Ha ha, love the "hiding activity" comments... so true. And I'm not going to let 10-year olds color a picture of Jesus for Primary and waste already precious time.

I have heard reports (from teacher training meetings and an 11-year old teacher) that the youth have been doing a great (for a youth) job with teaching the lessons in our ward. I think once a month would be enough, though. It's hard to teach what you don't (yet) know.

Spiritman, thank you! I finally was able to get them posted. I find it weird that the members are helping choose these things. I thought the leaders were supposed to be receiving revelation for these changes.

I think the problem goes much deeper than whether or not the classes have names. It's the franchise model and the modeled-after-school approach. They shouldn't be separating kids out by age group. That is so foolish. The kids should all be together, all ages in the same room, with their parents. It should always be, and should have always been, a family-centric approach. We just split them all up by age group because we're hopelessly retarded. "It's more efficient." If there's one thing kids need more of it's not more time with their immature peers, it's more time with mature parents who love them and who teach them the way to behave and live. Our wards should be smaller, too.

There should be 3 general meetings. Sacrament with families.
Scripture study group with families.
Priesthood.

Relief Society, the den of feminism and homosexuality-affirming nonsense it has become, should be disbanded and mothers and wives should focus on being mothers and wives again.

I'll add to my wish list more socials, but NOT always at the stale, mass produced feeling of the church basketball court. How about we go and do something as a ward family. Go to a Christian movie together. Have a sled ride in the snow. Anything less boring than sitting at a plastic table on the basketball court.

I agree. Excluding children from adult doctrinal discussions was a big disservice to the kids. If they want to go play, I'd probably let them. After all, trying to force a child to learn is wrong, but I know that kids can be very profound sometimes, and can be an intelligent part of a gospel discussion among adults (and I'm talking grade school kids, maybe even younger).
