The Liahona, shining stones, Jaredites, Nephites, and Noah.

Post by kirtland r.m. »

Shining Stones

In a side note, it is interesting to hear about additional miraculous help on ocean voyages. Lehi had the Liahona and the Brother of Jared had shining stones. What about shining stones on Noah’s Ark? Both the Liahona and shining stones are guidance from the Lord, just as Moses traveled by miraculous means with the children of Israel.

“Shining stones are not unique to the book of Ether. One reference to a shining stone in Noah’s ark appears in the Jerusalem Talmud, stating that a stone in the ark shone brighter in the night than in the day so that Noah could distinguish the times of day (Pesachim I, 1; discussed in CWHN 6:337-38, 349). Shining stones were also said to be present in the Syrian temple of the goddess Aphek (see CWHN 5:373) and are mentioned several times in the pseudepigraphic Pseudo-Philo (e.g., 25:12).” Encyclopedia on Mormonism Author: Tanner, Morgan W. https://bookofmormonevidence.org/the-li ... ious-ball/

Recently I was on the Papago Reservation. One of our new converts to the Church there told me this story:

“I had never joined any church because the ministers and the priests did not teach the Bible as I read it. I couldn’t read it and make it say the same things the other churches said it did. I speak the Papago language. I have lived among them all my life. I know their story and their traditions. And as I read the Book of Mormon that was placed in my hands by missionaries, I recognized the stories of the Papagos, and I knew the book was true. Your missionaries read the Bible the same way I did. These are the reasons I joined the Church. The Papagos believed they crossed the ocean and came to this land, that in the ships and on the trails they were guided by a ball. In this ball was a needle that pointed the direction they were to go. In the Papago language yet today, the name of this ball is ‘Liahona.’ LAMANITE TRADITION by Golden R. “We had a war long ago with a light skinned people around the Great Lakes. We conquered them but we had so much respect for their warrior chief that we buried him at the mouth of the Oswego River that is in New York State. We don’t discuss this very much because it is an embarrassment to us.” President Rawson then asked why this is an embarrassment, and the Chief replied, “Our history is written on metal plates and buried in a hill in New York, but we don’t know which hill… It is the belief of the Cherokee People that they came to the land of the New World from the direction of the East Ocean riding on a white cloud (sail). There seems to be in the legend, the existence of some type of round instrument which directed the voyage. Although not totally clear, it seems that the instrument which directed the voyage was ball-shape and contained another like it within itself. It contained a liquid, making the floating devices within to congregate at times to give direction to the eyes of the beholder…In those days when the Cherokee were a God-loving people, living in peace among themselves, they lived as one people, dwelling in half-moon shaped council houses. They had gone from living in caves to living in log-cabins. They still kept the sacred records of metal, some of which had come across the ocean waters with them, and others which they had continued keeping and making, scribing upon them as had been done before by the leaders of the People. They, too, had possession of the Ark of the Covenant, which they also had brought with them from their place of origin, existing across the eastern waters.” Talk given to missionaries in training at the MTC, Provo, Utah 1979, by President Murray J. Rawson.

There’s more to the Liahona that we should consider. Long ago I had correspondence with a man studying to become a Rabbi who was also impressed with the Book of Mormon as an authentic ancient Jewish text. He wasn’t LDS and I’m not sure what became of his interest, but he offered his rough analysis of the word Liahona, opining that it was good Hebrew. He said the name (lamed-yud-hey-vav-nun-alef in Hebrew) is related to known Hebrew words with relevant meanings:

LIA (lamed-yud-hey), Strongs 3914: something round; a wreath
LAWAH (lamed-vav-hey), Strongs 3867: to bind around; to wreathe; to start or stop
LON (lamed-vav-nun), Strongs 3885, from LAWAH: to abide, to dwell, to remain or to continue.

You are right hideki, and this makes the experience of the Jaredites and their stones lit by the finger of the Lord all the more interesting.

Zhorit
Malbim, a 19-century Hebrew grammarian and Torah scholar, suggests that Noah didn’t build a window but rather the word tzhar refers to a precious stone called zhorit. This stone, he says, is iridescent by its very nature, illuminating from within and, generating its own light.
The Window of Noah’s Ark | Reform Judaism https://reformjudaism.org/learning/tora ... n%20light.

Noah's ark is described in detail in the Torah as an enclosed four sided structure with only one opening to the outside, on the very top, as the verse says, "make a window for the ark." (Gen. 6:16) The Hebrew word that the Torah uses for 'window/tzohar' refers to something that shines. Some of the commentaries suggest that it was a skylight; others describe it as a type of precious stone that emitted light.https://www.chabad.org/kabbalah/article ... hs-Ark.htm

And did you know? The "Manna" was produced by the gift of God, from something also ancient- the Manna Machine? In the Zohar, a Kabbalistic book, are some details & illustrations of it. It is an atomic powered food processor (the Manna Pot) that takes blue/green algae (dew) & processes it into a sort of protein enriched porridge referred to as manna. And if you do not clean it once a week, it gets nasty, which corresponds to making a double batch & cleaning it up on the Sabbath.

Two British scientists released a book in 1978 titled 'The Manna Machine' which relays their work in its discovery & what we might call "reverse engineering" from the information & illustrations in the Zohar, in order to fabricate a working replica of it, which actually reproduced "manna". In the 'Legends of the Jews' by Louis Ginzberg Volume 4, p.234, Elijah is to retrieve it from the Ark, referred to as "the flask of Manna". Flask can mean a bottle or a "vessel", so a little play in its definition. In the NT Romans 9:4, it is referred to as the golden "pot" that had manna, which makes the "container" a broader definition. Also Aaron's rod is mentioned in the Ark here, of which Elijah also retrieves as per that same page in Ginzberg's research book.

For a glimpse of this device, either a Google search or perhaps a picture of the cover of Sassoon & Hale's book can be found on either <ABEbooks.com> or <Alibris.com> websites. Within the last 2 years, there were two used copies on sale at about $2000 each. I have several different pics of it which I could email you. I had a chance to get an English version of the multi-volume set of the Zohar, but $1800 at our local Half Price Books was out of reach for my pocketbook (wallet/funds). By descriptions & illustrations, the scientists were able to duplicate the "Manna Pot" and found that it was a true working device.

Oh, I will also share about the stones that Michael lit for Peleg (Brother of Jared) & the mountain it occurred on. But first I need some Vitamin Zzzzzzzzzz.

And then there is what is referred to as the "magical glasses" from the days of Atlantis. The excerpts share how it operates. And you might say, is similar to the BoM & the experiences of Joseph Smith (of usage).

Well, not that I slept thru all this way (Vitamin Zzzzz), but after sending the last note, in the next few hours my landline went down. Finally a tech went by the substation 6 miles down the highway & got my note taped to the door handle & came back to the small sub station across the street & rebooted the line. It does this about once a year. I am on trickle dial (dial-up). 1st up will be the one that identifies not only Mt Shelom/Shelem, but also Mount Zerin.

Sorry for delay, Landline went out- no internet access until it got restored.

Mt. Shelem = Mt Garan & Mt Zerin = lone mountain off to the side of Dzungarian Gate north of the Himalayas where the old silk road runs
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Here it is ...

Mt. Garan, Part 1
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Recently, it has been found (by way of a Chinese archaeologist to an American one) that at the top of Mt. Garan is a sign that has an inscription which was not discovered until the 1980s. The Brother of Jared (Peleg) went to the top of Mount Shelom/Shelem to get the Lord to light the 16 stones, as per the Book of Mormon. This inscription on the sign is the oldest Chinese inscription (older than the Oracle Bone inscription), and is also half Sumerian. It states" The King of Light was here." Interesting! There are only two tallest mountains on the Pacific coast of Asia, that would fit Mt. Shelem- one in China, one in Korea. Mount Garan in China looks to be it, Shelom/Shelem means "a very tall mountain". The BoJ (Peleg) says it was of exceeding height.

And there is a mountain which stands alone, of which they say matches a pass in the mountain range at the location of Dzungarian Gate north of the Himalayas where the old silk road runs. Geology has proven the folds in the lone mountain matches the folds in the mountain range. Therefore Mt. Zerin is confirmed.
There is even an old story in China of the foolish man who moved the mountain. The man had so much "faith", two angels put it on their backs & carried it out of his way.

I see you referenced the book- 'The Discovery of Genesis: How the Truths of Genesis Were Found Hidden in the Chinese Language' by C.H. Kang (1895-?) & Ethel R. Nelson (1923-?) 1979 PB.

Just in case anybody else wants to check it out.

and ...

Mt. Garan, Part 2
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
And where did you get this information?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This information is from a book authored by the archaeologist here in America that received the information.

'Why I Believe ... In the Historical Veracity of the Book of Mormon' -Neil Steede 2003/2004/2nd PB ed. 2005. Mine is an autographed copy (4-10-2007). This PB is 8.25" x 11.125" / 1.25" thick, 548 pp. with pictures, sources, drawings, maps, comparison charts etc.

Mt Shelem/Shelom of the BoM = Mt Garan in China is on pp.38-39
The fact as to the inscription & other comparative features found on the top of Mt. Garan, Neil says "The probability of all of these things being at the right place and occurring at the right time is unimaginable. Vegas would love the odds."

Mount Zerin of the BoM = the single mountain out by itself in China is on pp. 39-40
as to this last one, in his words- "We are speaking of a geological anomaly." as to the fact the base was concluded that it could fit the open pass (or gate) & that the folds in the range match this lone mountain out to the side, as if it actually would fit or came from there.

As to Neil, he attended ...
Graceland University (Iowa)
University of Missouri
University of the Americas (in Mexico)

He became a contract archaeologist for more than a decade for the Mexican government, Federal, State, and Municipal governments

While under these contracts he was commissioned to write more than 150 articles & three books in Spanish. He worked at more than 50 archaeological sites In Mexico.

Neil has worked on archaeological sites in the world. Neil participated in 5 television specials of which the most noted was his work in "Mysterious Origins of Man" in the early 1990s hosted by Charlton Heston. The highest acclaims were given to "Jurassic Art".

Further, he has presented 15 critically noted papers in 3 or more international Maya round tables. He is or was presidents of the Mexican Epigraphic Society and of E.S.R.S. (Early Sites Research Society).

These are just a few noted on the back of the book.

If you can't find a copy, let me know & I will see if there are still copies available. Also a possibility for Inter-
library loan.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

11-25-23 Notes:

There were only two such high mountains that could be Mt Shelom/Shelem that are on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. This on in China & one in North Korea. Verneil Simmons noted this in her book 'Peoples, Places and Prophecies: A Study of the Book of Mormon' 1977/1981 HB published by Zarahemla Foundation (ZRF) page 32. The high mountain on the Shantung Peninsula in China (that would be Garan, not sure of the heighth). And the 5000' high, famous mountain of the North Korea peninsula- "Diamond Mountain".

Neil noted on p.38 of his book that "Shelom" means "a very tall mountain". And that Yoshida is the name of his Chinese archaeologists collaborator. The inscription that is from the top of Mt. Garan translates as "The King of Light was here." And Yoshida states that this inscription is believed to be the oldest known Chinese inscription.

It seems a fellow student in Mexico, Jeng Seng Wong, helped obtain information about the geography of the Dzungarian Gate, of which was confirmed by Peking years later. Another portion shared by Wong was that the ancient Shang Dynasty was monotheistic (of one God). And a more recent friend, Xiu, also confirmed this. And ending on pp.40-41 ancient Chinese ideograms indicate parallel knowledge of the story found in Genesis of the Bible. Note the other book I mentioned earlier.

Neil even throws in a side remark (perhaps a bit of sarcasm) that possibly old Joe Smith found an old map which nobody knew existed, then incorporatated it into the Book of Mormon. Neil likes to kid around or give you possibilities, so the findings don't "corner" you in.

In case you did not know, ZRF (Zarahemla Research Foundation) shared their findings of ancient Chinese examples of calling people by off hand descriptions, such as One Sister, Two Sister and items like that (early 1980s). In this, it it is very similar to the one mainly used as "Brother of Jared" which is a main character in the BoM. I see that this Brother of Jared is Peleg of the Bible. If you will look into the IV of CoC-RLDS (JST), you will find that the timing, conditions, and Joseph' added comments about Peleg helped to put the focus on Peleg being the Brother of Jared. Jared of couse, is Peleg's brother- Joktan in the Bible. In the OT Genesis story, these two brothers, are sons of Eber/Heber, which is believed to be where the term Hebrew came in. These two brothers left & headed far East due to the confusion of tongues (the division, of tongues, not of lands & such). And there is a description, slightly updated of Peleg that would fit the Brother of Jared. While he may have been a a mighty man in stature, the BoM reveals he was a "mighty man" not just in stature, but also of faith. And the firstborn son of Peleg (Brother of Jared) was Pagag listed in the BoM Ether (CoC-RLDS 3:29 / LDS 6:25-26). Do you see the uniqueness of those two names? I might also add that word PELE in the Enochian/Angelic language means "one who worketh wonders/miracles".

I forget how I found this, perhaps by accident, if you do not believe in the synchronistic urgings of the Spirit. Here is an old share I did for my group- *The Academy* some 20+ years ago. It was on the Urim & Thummim aka the U&T.

snipped from Academy #98: One Instrument in the Cave Library of Hill Rabon (Hill Cumorah) ... (12-11-97 Thursday AM):
_____________________________________________________________________________
Heart of #98:

As you know, here & there, I've mentioned the Biblical & Book of Mormon device or apparatus known as the two stones which have been called the Urim & Thummim (Biblical History) and the Interpreters (in Mormon History). Today's post is a compilation of previous information, but in a much fuller scope so that you can see the broader picture. In my SEALED book, I will give Hill Rabon's exact location, of which some people, especially (CoC-)RLDS researchers know of, at least since the early 1970's. I will also zero in on the Temple of Ilta's exact location as well, in my SEALED book.

This piece of research today will be housed in 2 locations at the Academy website. First off, it will be in the Archives as #98 and also in with the "Cave" stories. So let's get on with it, as the "research" continues.
-------------------------------------------------------------
URIM & THUMMIM IN CAVE LIBRARY at Hill Rabon

In the Cave Library are not only Records, but certain instruments and items from ages past. One such instrument known to be among them is what has been referred to as the Urim & Thummim. In the Bible, mainly in the OT section, we are told of it, a breastplate, and an ephod. Now, if you have not checked into these before, here are a few notes I compiled from the OT:

Urim & Thummim--- Exodus 28:30/ Nehemiah 7:65/ Leviticus 8:8.

Urim--- Numbers 27:21/ 1st Samuel 28:6.

Thummim & Urim--- Deuteronomy 33:8.

Ephod--- Exodus 28:4,15,28,31 & 29:5/ 1st Samuel 30:7/ Hosea 3:4/ Leviticus 8:7.

Breastplate--- Exodus 28:4, 15,28,30 & 29:5/ Leviticus 8:8.

These are references that the names are found in from an index.

Related items of interest are found in the Book of Mormon (BoM for short). I will give two listings (for CoC-RLDS & LDS versions), due to their chapter & verse variations, plus what they speak of. They are referred to as the Interpreters or 2 Stones. Here are a few:

Mosiah (CoC-RLDS 5:72-83/ LDS 8:13-19)---Seer, Records, Interpreter, Great Mystery.

Mosiah (CoC-RLDS 12:18-21/ LDS 28:13-16)---2 stones into 2 rims of a bow, Seer, Prepared from the beginning, Preserved.

Ether (CoC-RLDS 1:87-99/ LDS 3:22-4:5)--- Brother of Jared, Mighty Faith, Seer {par Excellence}, 2 stones to magnify, shown all of the inhabitants of Earth-all that had been and all that would be, even to the ends of the Earth.

From correlating the data between the OT & the BoM, we definitely realize that they consist of two stones. Whether or not the breastplate is needed, is debatable.

Let me describe the Mosiah description (in CoC-RLDS 12:18-21/ LDS 28:13-16) of the apparatus. "And now he translated them by the means of those two stones which were fastened into the the rims of a bow. Now these things were prepared from the beginning, and were handed down from generation to generation, for the purpose of interpreting languages; And they have been kept and preserved by the hand of the Lord, that he should discover to every creature who should possess the land, the iniquities and abominations of his people; And whosoever has these things, is called seer, after the manner of old times."

Most interesting indeed! Let's look at what we are told here. This instrument has 2 stones fastened into the rims of a bow or a frame. This device is from ancient times, even way before Moses & Aaron's time. They have been preserved thru time. It can be used to interpret languages. It can also be used to view thru time, including how people have caused problems. Any person that has this tool in their possession and is allowed their use, is called a Seer, or one who can "SEE". This practice of "Seers" goes back into antiquity.

Now, if we look once again at Mosiah (in CoC- RLDS 5:72-83/ LDS 8:13-19), there are more clues to help us in understanding this instrument.

"... I can assuredly tell thee, O king, of a man that can translate the records: for he has wherewith that he can look, and translate all records that are of ancient date: and it is a gift of God. And the things are called interpreters; and no man can look in them, except he be commanded, lest he should look for that he ought not, and he should perish. And whoever is commanded to look in them, the same is called seer. ... A seer is greater than a prophet. ... A seer is a revelator, and a prophet also; and a gift which is greater, can no man have, except he should possess the power of God, which no man can; yet a man may have great power given him from God. But a seer can know of things which have past, and also of things which are to come; And by them [Seers] shall all things be revealed, or rather, shall secret things be made manifest, and hidden things shall come to light; and things which are not known, shall be made known by them; And also, things shall be made known by them, which otherwise could not be known. Thus God has provided a means that man, through faith, might work mighty miracles; therefore, he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings. ... Doubtless, a "Great Mystery" is contained within these plates; and these Interpreters [Urim & Thummim] were doubtless prepared for the purpose of unfolding all such mysteries to the children of men".

From Ether in the BoM, we have an account of the two stones and their purpose:

Moroni tells of the "enigmatic Brother of Jared)---
"And because of the knowledge of this man, he could not be kept from beholding within the vail; and he saw the finger [from the cloud,] of Jesus [my note: it was actually Michael, the higher portion of Jesus], which, when he saw, he fell with fear; for he knew that it was the finger of the Lord; And he had faith no longer, for he knew, nothing doubting; wherefore having this perfect knowledge of God, he could not be kept from within the vail; therefore he saw Jesus, and he did minister unto him. And it came to pass that the Lord said unto the Brother of Jared, Behold, thou shalt not suffer these things which ye have seen and heard, to go forth unto the world, until the time cometh that I shall glorify my name its the flesh; wherefore, ye shall treasure up the things which ye have seen and heard, and shew it to no man. And behold, when ye shall come unto me, ye shall write them and shall seal them up, that no one can interpret them; for ye shall write them in a language that they can not be read. And behold, these two stones will I give unto thee, and ye shall seal them up also, with the things which ye shall write. For behold, the language which ye shall write, I have confounded; wherefore I will cause in mine own due time that these stones shall magnify to the eyes of men, these things which ye shall write."

"And when the Lord had said these words, he shewed unto the Brother of Jared all the inhabitants of the earth which had been, and also all that would be; and the Lord withheld them not from his sight, even unto the ends of the earth; For the Lord had said unto him in times before, that if he would believe in him, that he could shew unto him all things --- it should be shewn unto him; therefore the Lord could not withhold anything from him; for he knew that the Lord could shew him all things. And the Lord said unto him, Write these things and seal them up, and I will shew them in mine own due time unto the children of men. And it came to pass that the Lord commanded him that he should seal up the two stones which he had received, and shew them not, until the Lord should shew them unto the children of men. And the Lord commanded the Brother of Jared to go down out of the mount from the presence of the Lord, and write the things which he had seen; and they were forbidden to come unto the children of men, until after that he should be lifted up upon the cross; And for this cause did King Benjamin [BoM notes: Mosiah?] keep them, that they should not come unto the world until after Christ should shew himself unto his people. And after Christ truly had shewed himself unto his people, he commanded that they should be made manifest. And now, after that, they have all dwindled in unbelief, and there is none, save it be the Lamanites, and they have rejected the gospel of Christ; therefore I am commanded that I should hide them up again in the earth."

"Behold, I have written upon these plates the very things which the Brother of Jared saw; and there never was greater things made manifest, than that which was made manifest unto the Brother of Jared; wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me to write them; and I have written them. And he commanded me that I should seal them up; and he also hath commanded that I should seal up the interpretation thereof; wherefore I have sealed up the Interpreters, according to the commandment of the Lord."

In a few verses later, it is further said, speaking of Faith in the Great NAME or WORD, the KEY of it ALL, "And in that day that they shall exercise faith in me [the NAME/WORD], saith the Lord, even as the Brother of Jared did, that they may become sanctified in me, then will I manifest unto them the things which the Bother of Jared saw, even to the unfolding unto them all my revelations ..."

A few verses further than that says "Behold, when ye shall rend that vail of unbelief ..., then shall the great and marvelous things which have been hid up from the foundation of the world from you ..."

Even though the many records placed thruout the world are sealed. It is the vision of the Brother of Jared that is the true SEALED portion, as it REVEALS all time on this world, from its beginning, to our time, and even into our future. See Academy #33A & 33B in the Archives for more details on Isaiah 29 and a few of Edgar Cayce's Readings which overlap (correlate).

We have a few items that ought to be brought out. In other items of Joseph Smith, there is what is considered a two-fold gift of God. One is the gift of the Interpreters or Urim & Thummim, which can be used as a translation tool. The other gift which goes hand-in-hand is that the person who uses it, must have the gift of translation. It seems that perhaps all might be able to "see", but only a few are allowed to "See" with this device, according to the ONE.

It notes that someone must be told or commanded to look in them. This seems to be some sort of an "authorization" ritual for first-timers. The warning here is that if one looks into them without having been given the authority, they could perish (die) [or something]. In other accounts, it is also said that some may be allowed to live, but will see nothing. So, we can understand the implications of the gift or ability to use the gift or apparatus must be authorized, or there is no link-up and no possibility of "Seeing" with it.

Again, we are told that whoever looks in them & succeeds (are authorized), are referred to as a Seer. But then we see the definition of a Seer defined in relation to a Prophet. I note here that a person can "see" or "prophesy", but that does make them a Seer or Prophet. It is only by "Authority" that the official title is bestowed on that individual.

We are told a seer can also look thru time. Note that it does not state that the Seer will see probabilities. It presents us with the view that perhaps people like Nostradamus, actually had access to the "Window of actualities, not probabilities". Einstein's statement on Time backs this up.

And by Seers, many things are revealed which could not be known. And this snip ends with telling us that these two stones, be it called the Interpreters or the Urim & Thummim, that they were prepared (from the beginning) for the purpose of unfolding all mysteries to mankind.

As you can see, so far we have looked into a few items. Could there be more out there that could assist us? Yes, there is. I have found 5 other items. One is related to an account by Joseph Smith's Mother of her being an actual eye-witness. Another is from Stan Tenen of the Meru Foundation. Third is one out of the blue on "Magical Glasses". Fourth is one researcher's rendition in an illustration. Fifth is by a guy who took photos of a Mayan priest statuette (top bust) in 1958.

Lucy Mack Smith's 1912 book (now a Heritage Reprint by CoC-RLDS) 'Joseph Smith and His Progenitors' is still in print by Herald House (division of CoC-RLDS). The U&T is described on:
p.116--- consisted of 2 smooth 3 cornered diamonds set in glass/ the glasses were set in silver bows/ connected with each other similar to old-fashioned spectacles.
p.124--- describes the breastplate.
p.123 (or 125)---, Lucy said that Joseph, by the use of the U&T, was able to look & know of danger, should it becoming to him or the plates (records).

Here is what Lucy shared from actually seeing several items that were with the small portion of plates Moroni had carried to New York state and buried, to which Joseph recovered after an angel showed him their location.

Remember, I told you of the two-fold gift. It seems JS was a natural seer. Lucy stated "That of which I spoke, which Joseph termed a key, was indeed, nothing more nor less than the Urim and Thummim, and it was by this that the angel showed him many things which he saw in vision; by which he could also ascertain, at any time, the approach of danger, either to himself or the record, and on account of which he always kept the Urim and Thummim about his person."

Lucy describes the breastplate as "It was wrapped in a thin muslin handkerchief, so thin that I could see the glistening metal, and ascertain its proportions without any difficulty. It was concave on one side and convex on the other, and extended from the neck downwards as far as the center of the stomach of a man of extraordinary size. It had four straps of the same material for the purpose of fastening it to the breast, two of which ran back to go over the shoulders, and the other two were designed to fasten to the hips. They were just the width of two of my fingers, (for I measured them,) and they had holes in the ends of them, to be convenient in fastening. The whole plate was worth at least five hundred dollars. After I had examined it, Joseph placed it in the chest with the Urim and Thummim."

Oh yes, I'm sure you want Lucy's detailed description of the U&T. "Joseph saw this, and said, 'Do not be uneasy, mother, all is right --- see here, I have got a key.' I knew not what he meant, but took the article of which he spoke, into my hands, and upon examination, found that it consisted of two smooth three-cornered diamonds set in glass, and the glasses were set in silver bows, which were connected with each other in much the same way as old-fashioned spectacles. He took them again and left me, but said nothing respecting the record."

My apologies, as I fell asleep at the keyboard the other night before sending Part 2.

continuing from the snipped portion of Academy #98
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The U&T/Interpreters/"Magical Glasses" Part 2 of 2

Let's see, we now have an idea somewhat of what the breastplate might look like. Note that it stopped about center of the stomach region. Any significance? Possibly. The Solar Plexus is in this region and many report either Astral Bodies projected or Psychic things happening from this point. Perhaps this is why it did not cover this region.

The key, or the two-fold gift, seems to be the U&T, plus his ability to use it.

Last, in the U&T description, more confirmation of other descriptions. However, Lucy describes them as 2 three-cornered diamonds. But then says they were set in or molded into glass. This could be why they are referred to as "round". Perhaps, the outer shell is round to give the appearance of two round stones. And these stones are set in silver bows (frames). They either were silver or looked liked silver. In a sense, they were designed sort of like old spectacles that when not needed, were lowered down and retained by a chain or necklace, to about upper or middle section of the breast. Again, it is possible that the breastplate should be used in conjunction with U&T. But who can say for sure?

Recently, in the last 2 years or so, I acquired a video titled GML or "Geometric Metaphors of Life" which was a February 1989 or 1990 lecture given by Stan Tenen of the Meru Foundation. In this wonderful video, Stan touches on the Biblical U&T and notes the Mormon's (LDS & RLDS) as also speaking of it. However it is not clear if he ever ran across Lucy's account. But what he says, does raise a few eyebrows. He believed the U&T to be 2 Tetrahedronal Stones or prisms. Now, I ask you, how'd did he come up with that? Lucy said it seemed as if two 3-cornered diamonds were "set" in glass. Looking at a glass Tetrahedron from different angles would give a 3 cornered appearance, plus a 4 corner diamond-like look as well. Interesting indeed!

Now, another item I found in the last 2 to 3 years, was about what was noted as "Magical Glasses". I caught that in the Table of Contents in a chapter's minor section's listing. The book that it came from is seen by people of different strokes, in different lights. It doesn't matter, because it seems to confirm certain things matching the U&T aka the Interpreters.

Phylos the Thibetan's "magic glasses", "magical eyepieces", and "wonderful spectacles" are found in ch.6, bk.2, pp.334-335 (as subheading in Table of Contents) in the 1974/1978 2nd print Steinerbooks edition (thick Pocket PB) and the same pages in the Harper & Row 1974 (PB) copies of 'A Dweller on Two Planets'.

"...But as I was about to go out of the library, a hand- a woman's hand- reached over my shoulder, and a soft voice said:

'Put these over your eyes.'

It was Phyris, who gave me a seeming pair of spectacles. They were indeed spectacles which all the fortunes of earth could not obtain. How thoughtful she was of my pleasure! As I put them on, all the shelves of books disappeared, and a book being placed in my hand- as I know from retrospection, for I did not know then- I found myself seemingly amid scenes of most familiar aspect. All the mental pictures conjured up by vivid perusal of Scott's famous poem, 'The Lady of the Lake'- all the voices of its characters became seen and heard, as if I were on the spot where all was said to have transpired. For the time I was transported by means of those magical eye pieces into the mental world of Walter Scott, which, while he wrote,-

'Lay around him like a cloud,

A world he could not see.
-except with the vision of the creative imagination.

The whole was presented in a few moments, for thought is swifter than the senses, and when the King threw his golden fetters over Malcolm's neck and laid the chain in fair Ellen's hand- without waiting for the rest, Phyris withdrew the wonderful spectacles from my eyes, and said:

'These would banish material surroundings, and let the reader directly into the author's realms of imagery, whatever the book, but not whoever the reader- for only fine, developing human senses, none that are controlled by the animal, can enjoy the use of them. And this because they are a species of sensitive magnet, linking psychic facts, but not material things. But there, I do not know much more about them, and you must ask father of them if you would learn more. I am only a girl, and must learn to be more ere I can assume to teach. And I should dislike to fail in offering you an explanation. Your good opinion of me would lessen, and that would be mortifying, for I treasure it- I, well, never mind,'- she said, as a delicate flush spread over her face- 'come with me; I think it is well not to be too long a time amidst any one set of influences- as literary environs.'"

Described as Magical Glasses, seeming pair of spectacles, and Wonderful Spectacles, are almost identical to the accounts we have just been going over. And notice how the individual is "instructed" to put them on. And notice it says they are also a "species of sensitive magnet". Notice the details of how things were seen, in a blink of an eye.

But wait, how about one RLDS/LDS researcher's artistic conception in an illustration of what they feel it looks like. This was found in Verneil Simmon's HB book titled 'Peoples, Places, and Prophecies'. Mine is a second edition 1977/1981 HB published by Zarahemla Research Foundation. It is copyrighted by Verneil W. Simmons. This was on page 228 starting chapter 43 titled "God Speaks to Moses". See the button below for looking at this illustration found in her book. I am not sure if the well-researched book is still in print. Check with ZRF at their address at PO Box 1727 in Independence, Missouri 64055.

There is a color booklet, I don't believe it is still available, that has a picture of a top half bust(statuette) of a Mayan priest found in the Yucatan area. It is in Roy E. Weldon's "The Bible Points to the Book of Mormon and the New World" from 1969. He came upon this bust by surprise and took a Black & White photo of it in 1958. It was in a museum in Merida, Yucatan. He made a few comments concerning the priests garments, which consisted of a headdress, a breastplate, and what looked like an old "pair" of spectacles hanging down in front of the breastplate. It looked like 2 round stones were placed in the 2 bows. If anyone wants to know if this booklet is still available, let me know. I can try and find out for you. I recently checked with no such luck. The photo you are about to see is the smallest one found on page 12 of this booklet. I apologize for its quality, as it is a scan from a xerox copy of the original booklet of a friend of mine. The caption reads below it:

"The author was startled when he walked into the State Archaeological Museum in Merida, Yucatan[in Mexico] in August, 1958 and saw for the first time the object pictured above. It is the statue of an ancient priest unearthed while excavating for a building in Merida. The similarity between the Bible and Book of Mormon descriptions of the Urim and Thummim, or Interpreters, and the artifact pictured here can be noted by the reader."

You can view two different shades of this photo by going to a button below.

And this same picture was in another booklet put out by Roy E. Weldon & F. Edward Butterworth in 1973 by Herald House. I don't think it is available either. The booklet's title is "Criticisms of the Book of Mormon Answered". On page 59 is this caption:

"Statue of a priest discovered in Yucatan, very striking in similarity to description of the Interpreters (see Mosiah [CoC-RLDS] 12:18,19; 5:73,74) and Biblical description of the Urim and Thummim (see Exodus 28:30; Leviticus 8:8)."

Again, I apologize for the poor quality, as it too comes from a xerox copy of my friend's original booklet. Look for the next button below. This photo is a bit larger and taken from an angle that the lighting shows the two stones & "apparatus" is seen in a clearer view.

Roy was a major researcher into Mesoamerica to see if there was proof to the Book of Mormon story. I believe back in 1989, he was in his late 80's or early 90's. I have not talked with Clair Weldon, his son, lately (last around August 1990/1991/1993 during a workshop here in Bryan). I personally thank Roy for his efforts in research.

Last, but not least, is a map I have included, taken from that old favorite Pkt.PB titled 'Pyramid Power' by Max Toth & Greg Nielsen. My copy is a Warner Books 1974/1976 revised & enlarged edition. The authors hold the copyright. If you look on page 30, there is a "Map of Ancient Mexico (figure 2)". If you do not have a copy, you can click on a button below to see it.

Hill Rabon is in the area where the name "Tres Zapotes" is at. You can also see Tres Zapotes marked location in J.J. Hurtak's book "The Book of Knowledge: The Keys of Enoch". See page 311( mine is a 1977/1996 4th edition in HB). Tres Zapotes is marked in its setting, but Cerro Rabon (Hill Rabon) is to the southwest of the spot marked.

Now, what does this device called the Biblical or Book of Mormon "Urim & Thummim" have in connection with the Records. It will be one of the major translation tools to be used, when they (the records) are released. I did research on this peculiar device's names. I found that they are both plural (denoted by "im"). Ur is derived from Aur/Or = Light. Tum or Tom = Perfection. But only after consulting my giant 6" thick 1969 Webster's Dictionary and my new OED (Oxford English Dictionary) [note: 20 volumes photo-reduced to 9 pages on 1 page in one very large compact volume which came with a unique magnifier], did I find its true meaning or description. The two terms together mean "Perfect Illumination", which places it as the Seer's "Tool Par Excellence".

And that concludes another "Cave" story. On with the research.
Till next time,
your servant & friend,
Lynn H.

Currently in 2023 ... Sadly, at one time we had up to 3 websites but that was years ago, so the pics are no longer online.

Also, an added note or two, as to the writer or scribe of 'A Dweller on Two Planets or A Dividing of the Way'- Frederick Oliver, I was contacted by descendants of Oliver, as they were researching him.

And shortly thereafter, I was contacted by a guy who claimed he was the current incarnation of Oliver. I did not go looking for any of them. They came looking for me.

I am not sure what happened to Stan Tenen, as he was getting older (born in 1942), which would make him about 81 currently. If you have not seen his 1989 or 1990 first public presentation of the discoveries of his research- you should be able to pick up a used or new copy of his well researched book- The Alphabet That Changed the World: How Genesis Preserves a Science of Consciousness in Geometry and Gesture' 2011 big PB edited by Charles Stein. Mine may be a 2017 reprint, but not sure. Library call letters are PJ4589.T46 2011 or Dewey 492.4'11--dc22.

And looking thru the index, I do not see any reference to the U&T or Interpreters from several possibilities, unless it might be found on one of the pages on tetrahedron Index notes 37 different pages. It was noted in the "Geometric Metaphors of Life" [GML] (noted as his first public presentation which was videotaped). I might add that he found the text of Genesis is auto-correlated in 27 letter strings, as it was set up as a Base 3 system, in other words, it unfolds itself. I forget what else he called it, as I would have to re-watch GML as I have it on VHS. Jewish rabbis took it much further & found it continues on in this manner in the rest of the Torah books, and the others. Stan revealed in GML that also found this system in the NT, but since they are Jewish rabbis, they won't publicly comment.

I might add what Stan shows, the coil in the tetrahedron, what he refers to as the "Light in the Meeting Tent" (see it on pp.164-169) is very similar to the coil in the capstone that originally was made for the Great Pyramid. See Tony Busby's well researched 'The Secret in the Bible' 2003/2nd print 2005 PB (Joshua Books- Australia) page 251 & the cover) as the spiral light in a clear pyramid for a comparison. While Stan uses the 22 basic Hebrew glyphs for his model, Tony refers to the 22 different views of the rainbow serpent ( linked to the 22 Hebrewe letters (see p.258). Of which I am thinking is basically the 10th glyph of Busby & the 10th glyph of the Hebrew (from Stan, is the Iod/Yod/Jod which represents the first letter of the Tetragrammaton (4 Lettered Name/Word of God). Bushby describes from pp.250-257 what the Ben-Ben (special capstone) for the Great Pyramid) looked like- a rising 7 colored rainbow serpent in constant motion which could be seen from afar. And on pp.251-252 Bushby shares that if a clear model (miniature of exact proportion) of the GP is made, if you shine a light down into its center, from about where the Queen's Chamber is located, this rainbow Serpent is shown rising. Since you cannot see it in rock or stone, the Ben-Ben up top allowed you to see it.

The late Claire Weldon (son of Roy Weldon) has a book or treatise titled "Two Transparent Stones, the Story of the Urim and Thummim", of which there is a copy held in CoC-RLDS's "The Temple" Library & Archives. I have not yet requested a look (to read) of it. Or perhaps request a xerox research copy.

If not mistaken, in Hurtak's "Keys of Enoch" book ['The Book of Knowledge: The Keys of Enoch' -James J. Hurtak], it seems to note there may be 12 U&Ts out there. YES, it does in KEY 105:60. It also has a treatise in one key that explains its circuitry.

I will share some more notes in a Part 3 which also touches on the way the "Magical Glasses" was described, as soon as it is compiled.

I found another item that also shares similar descriptions. Sadly, I am out of time, so I may not get to do it until next weekend. It depends how my week goes. But these descriptions, along with the Bible & the Book of Mormon, help to get a better idea of just how they operate.

Jost as the Liahona guided the Nephites after showing faith, the Book of Mormon should be our tool today to guide us after showing faith. We also know by oral tradition that many Native Americans (Papago’s, Pueblo, Navajo and others) of this Land, had direction with their own “instrument”, or director” to bring them to this land from the Old World. https://bookofmormonevidence.org/gentil ... -director/

Finally, a 4 day reprieve from the hustle & bustle. Well, sort of, kind of. Just in a different manner. Got thru wrapping presents, methinks. Just came down from upstairs out on the TreeHouse deck, painting some plywood as I am redoing the floor up there to have an inset satellite for internet installed, I hope (in the next month). My dial up ends January 1st.

In case you did not catch it, I have resurrected my "SEERS" thread and will be adding more to it, as time permits. Next up on it, will be the research compiled by Raymond Moody who coined the term- NDE. The title of the thread is actually <<SEERS, Seership, and their "Looking-in-devices">> here in the "Gospel Discussion" section.

OK, my last little note bears repeating here once again ...

As to the "Magical Glasses" of the days of Atlantis, I shared this portion I wanted to touch on-

Well, I found SEVERAL items that also shares similar descriptions. With these descriptions, along with the Bible & the Book of Mormon, it helps us to get a better idea of just how they (U&T/Interpreters/"Magical Glasses") & the Seer operate or I should say function together.

While we speak of one such apparatus (set-up), one source shares that there are more out there. Sort of like there are several Crystal Skulls out there too.

I shared just a hint of it in Part 2 in comments at the end. In J.J. Hurtak's "Keys of Enoch" book ['The Book of Knowledge: The Keys of Enoch' -James J. Hurtak] 1973, it seems to note there may be 12 U&Ts out there. In case you have never perused this book, it is heavy duty. Meaning it is very enlightening yet complex. In fact, J.J. & others formed the AFFFS [Academy For Future Sciences} to not only study it, but be on the watch for items in the news that the "KEYS" speak of. Matter of fact, the one who donated a copy to me back in 1997, shared a brief in an Academy post (of my group back then- *The Academy*, the 3rd in line with Plato's & Einstein's).

Anyway, YES, it does touch on in KEY 105:60. It shares that
++++++
"The crystalline fields of the twelve Urim and Thummim will be opened, will be cleansed, ..."
++++++

Thanks to the Index, I found even more. In case you are not aware, I delved into the "KEYS" almost 30 years ago, and made notes. Then about 15 years ago, I got a "steal", a 2nd copy of "KEYS" at a used book sale for a mere $2 (yes- two dollars). The copy donated to me was a 1996 4th edition new HB copy (which listed for $45 back in 1997. Sarah also sent me much more a few years later for me to further research. Anyway, the $2 used copy had extensive notes, so I also have that perspective noted from the previous owner. Remember that we all do not see things in the same manner. You must always be open to compare notes, in order to get a bigger picture.

As I noted, checking out pages from the Index, I found that it seems to share a treatise in one key that explains its circuitry. I think I forgot to jot down which Key or page, nor leave a marker. Well, I have to pause to go paint a second coat of primer on one side of the two sheets of 3/4 CD plywood. When I get back, I'll re-find it.

OK, painting done for today, as it was almost dark even thought light can come into the deck area. And I stopped for supper too. OK, after 15 to 30 minutes, even thought the notes from the older volume (the $2 copy) had it listed, the pages between my 1996 & that 1982 edition must be different. It noted p.608. I found it on pp.512-513 (4th Edition 1996). The 1982 is the 2nd Edition. It shares about the communication device- the U&T and its circuitry. This is found in Key 316:27-42. In a Key I breezed thru getting to this one, it makes clear that for full operation, you need not just the U&T, but the breastplate & the "helmet". It works with the chakras of the individual. If not properly tuned, it either will not work, or there might be what we might call an adverse reaction (it hints of this, in another Key).

Interestingly, I have pictures of a bust of a Mayan priest wearing all 3 items, which was found while excavating for a new building in Merida, Yucatan. Roy Weldon of RLDS took about 3 or 4 different angle shots of it (in B&W) when he saw it, as he walked into a Merida museum in 1958. He knew exactly what he was seeing. Roy was already mentioned in Part 2, as well as his son- Claire Weldon, who wrote a treatise or book on the U&T.

This caption was noted under one shot of the bust or written beside it (shared in Part 2)-
"The author was startled when he walked into the State Archaeological Museum in Merida, Yucatan [in Mexico] in August, 1958 and saw for the first time the object pictured above. It is the statue of an ancient priest unearthed while excavating for a building in Merida. The similarity between the Bible and Book of Mormon descriptions of the Urim and Thummim, or Interpreters, and the artifact pictured here can be noted by the reader."

But even though the "KEYS" do not make note you can use the U&T just by itself, is not mentioned. From the ways the "KEYS" state, you get the idea that it might not be fully functional. It explains that the apparatus of all 3 can transcend our current brain bioengineering. It allows the brain to go thru some sort of time acceleration. It will "Override the old flow of sodium ions and allows for immediate information transfer between the brain codes and new memory storage." Key 316:31-32. 316:33 starts off by noting it allows for the reception of information at rates faster than analytical comprehension."

I thought I had seen the word magnetic the other day, but not here. However, words used such as harmonic grid, energy fields, modulation of crystals, energy jewels, template grid, vibrational frequency, perfect resonance, uses sacred vowel patterns, creates geometries, and such, somehow suggests it to me. I even see one word "perfection", of which I finally came to the ultimate understanding of the Urim & Thummim as "perfect illumination" as to its true meaning. Anyway, in Key 316:41 it it notes, that in communication, it is used "... for the exchange of higher Wisdom and the reception of specific thought-forms of God".

Let's see if I can back up & find the reference to all 3 items. In Key 317:78-79 it notes that it also has the powers of regenesis & that it has "creative powers, medical healing, and tissue regenesis". OK, found it. The Helmet & Breastplate are touched on in Key 12:73. In Key 112:71, it refers to them as "the breastplate of hope" & "the helmet of hope". Here it also speaks of the chakras, especially the heart chakra being involved.

OK, we'll stop there & turn over to the other item I just happened to bump into, or I should say, I "fell" into. As I had already read this portion, as far back in possibly 2011 when I bought the book. It title is 'Secrets of the Ancient World' co-authored by Lora Little, Gregory Little, and John Van Auken (ARE Press PB 2003/4th Print 2011). The subtitle is "Exploring the Insights of America's most Well-Documented Psychic, Edgar Cayce". Lora & Greg are researchers. John Van Auken has been one of the directors of A.R.E. (the Edgar Cayce group organization). John is very well known for his research on religions, cultures, and such around the globe, as well as the Edgar Cayce Readings (some 14,000 plus). In fact, I finally got meet him in Houston this past January (2023). It was his first public presentation since COVid shut down events like that in 2020. In their book, section or chapter 9, its title is ... Take a guess... Why of course- 'The Mysterious Oracle Stones: The Urim & Thummim" which takes on pp.157-165. It starts off with two quotes on the Urim & Thummim- Exodus 28:30 (which I shared or noted in Part 1) & ECR #338-3.

Then it has several subsections. The first being "The Hebrew words Urim & Thummim ...". They note their interpretation or translation is "perfect revelation". [Mine is "perfect illumination". Next is "Ancient Origins of the Urim & Thummim". It seems some biblical experts think that the stones might be of lapis lazuli. Cayce notes this particular stone that can be used to enhance psychic ability, if the person were sensitive enough, they could actually "hear those vibrations giving off, or the singing or talking stones ..." from ECR #440-5. Egyptian culture held that this stone "represents the virtues of truth and revelation".

Next comes the subsection "Urim & Thummim: Remnant of Atlantean Firestone?". Whoa! As i reread this, I wondered how I did not already catch this portion of their research. I had never heard of a connection to the firestone of Atlantis and the U&T. I guess maybe I was not supposed to then, but now. I guess I need to alert John, that I may have the connections they were looking for. They state that "Cayce stated that, although the firestone eventually was used as a power-producing tool, its original purpose was to aid in spiritual communication: '... [The firestone] was in the form of a six-sided figure, in which the light appeared as a the means of communication between infinity and the finite ...'." ECR #2072-10

In this subsection on the next page (161) they further share "In fact, the Cayce Readings say, 'stones that are circular, that were of the magnetized influence' were brought to the Yucatan by Atlantean immigrants to allow the 'angels of light' to communicate with the people. ECR #5750-1 He predicted that an emblem of the firestone would be found in the Yucatan in the 1930s and portions of it brought to museums in Pennsylvania, Washington, and Chicago." ECR #440-5

Their last paragraph in this subsection notes again there are several connections between the U&T & Cayce's firestone. In one encyclopedia, the word "urim" translates as "fire", not "light" as others have.

Next subsection is "The Sapphire Connection: Urim and Thummim and the Firestone". They share that some scholars think that sapphire was used as the original stone for the U&T. They also found in Hebrew mythology there is a story Of Moses retrieving a staff that had a sapphire in it & that Moses used it for them to cross the Red Sea. Also the sapphire or the staff was engraved with the Name of God. Hebrew literature noted it wa a stone with "unusual powers". In Rabbinical literature the 3 co-authos shares that Moses made the second set of tablets from a block of sapphire & that it was quarried from the solar disk (of Amen-Re or Ra???). They also found a special link between sapphire & the firestone. A subscriber to the ARE newsletter "Ancient Mysteries" shared that one of the Cayce Readings told of a Persian gem trader and the gems he carried with him- "... pearls ... the opal, the FIRESTONE, the lapis lazuli in Indo-China, yea the diamonds and rubies of some of the cities of gold." ECR #5294-1 This person wondered if the firestone might have been used from one common gem that was missing from the list- sapphire. Guess what? The sapphire (at the microscopic level, is six-sided and that one form of it contains a brilliant fire-like six- or twelve-pointed star." The co-authors feel that since there are no mention of sapphires in the 14,000+ Edgar Cayce Readings, that the term firestone was used to to refer to sapphire "and did so, because they are one and the same." Also, it was noted in the Readings that they eventually used the firestone as a power device, in today's time, it can be incorporated for a laser, like a ruby. Also the note of "the magnetized stones that Cayce stated ... used for spiritual communication." Reference here is to John & Lora's 2000 PB book- 'The Lost Hall of Records: Edgar Cayce's Forgotten Record of Human History in the Ancient Yucatan' but not page numbers. As for stones (circular, magnetized), I just looked & these pages are listed in the Index- 29,50-51,65,67,77-78,80-83,96-97,103,122-123,139-141. I'll leave it at that.

But take note that they were of a "magnetized influence", similar to the description of the "magical glasses". Another angle is that Lucy Mack Smith noted it looked like 3 cornered diamonds inside of the glass. Stan Tenen noted they were probably Tetrahedrons (3 sided pyramids, two of which encase in glass a particular manner, might give the visual or view of 6 sides.

OK, I guess we'll pause there for now. Also take note that in "Keys" that the influx is much faster than normal brain function. As to the "Magical Glasses", they banish physical surroundings. In other words, they do not function like a telescope, or a binoculars. In a sense, they do not function as to physical normality.
