The temples Nelson "builds" are all monuments to his ego.

Puebla will be dedicated soon, as will Salta.

Urdaneta is just now going to be dedicated soon and that was one of the first temples announced under Monson. The pandemic slowed down a bunch of construction sites too.

All future Nelson temples will feature a prominent golden statue of Nelson, atop the northeastern spire. He'll be posing in his ever popular "holding the keys" photo op.

"38 announced temples still in planning and design"

If this number is listed after those with a site location, they are telling us that these locations don't have a site location, which begs the question: Why announce them?

This is so obvious that this is about Russel Nelson's ego.

Missoula is one that doesn't even have land...yet it was announced at least 2 years ago. Not that I care...I'm not recommended to the Lord any more. 😁

Perhaps he'll have one of those put on his modest gravestone.

The conference thread said he announced 20 more temples, so that makes 153.

I scanned the thread and didn't see any reference to the 20 recently announced. Should have scanned slower. 😁

The city (with the exception of Russia) is mentioned in each of those 38. The question pipes down to which part of the city (or suburb of said city) are they going to put the temple.

In some places, this happens relatively quickly. The record time I can think of from announcement to dedication was Oaxaca Mexico which was about a year and a month in duration. On the flip side the Urdaneta temple in the Philippines is just now getting finished even though it was one of the first temples announced under President Monson. Or Guayaquil Ecuador which was announced by Kimball but wasn't finished until Hinckley's second year as President.

Building a temple is a multi-year project, and Nelson has only been President for 5 years. A better metric would be to compare the average time to completion for Nelson vs previous administrations.

How many other Prophets announced temples and didn't have a site for them to be built on, only a city?

You missed one that is complete and that probably won't be announced, Moscow Russia.

It's finished but not in use yet. So I assume that it hasn't been dedicated yet.

Despite being told that prophets can "see round corners", the church failed to get the Moscow temple up and running before the Ukraine war. If they had, it would probably still be functioning.

Some of these temples are not big though. Some are prestige projects in countries like India and Thailand where they barely have a presence, but some are micro-temples often on small islands which will not take long to build.

I understand, but couldn't you do that for any given thousand cities? Just pick a big city and announce that one day there will be a temple there.

Do you at least see how Monson and Hinckley went by a different standard and that it seems like Nelson is simply trying to add to his legacy.

Why else change the standard for counting?

Building takes time. Even if you prefab most of it, there is still permitting and site prep, and then post build landscaping and interior finishings.

Temples are no different in this regard
