I like to try all kinds of seed varieties in my garden. Last year alone I purchased 52 different varieties from Baker's Creek seeds. And I have dozens more from other companies. This sent me on a bit of a journey to find a cataloging system for all of them. So far I've landed on this solution and it seems to work pretty well.
4x6 photo cases are perfect for grouping seed types. You can purchase them from Amazon:

While the above comes with a flimsy case, I wanted something more rugged, waterproof, and would block out the sunlight. I found this ammo box to be perfect for these 4x6 photo cases:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T4XL2MO?ps ... ct_details
One ammo box will hold 26 individual photo cases.
As I start to collect heirloom seeds, I decided to get these resealable envelopes. They are currently unavailable, but there are many brands on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003KFMVGI?ps ... ct_details
I also purchased this seed organizer for specific (aka special) seed varieties:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BWR ... =UTF8&th=1
You can label them with tape or use a nifty label maker if you have one.

Re: Seed Vault and Storage
I use the 4x6 photo case as well. I just use a sharpie to label and group the seed types together but when it comes to peas, beans, and larger seeds the 4x6 boxes are silly. The ammo box idea is great and solves that issue and others. Taping seed packets sucks so it would be nice to find more self-sealing seed packets. Those twist on bottles are cool for small seeds. I save some seed so it would be nice for that if I get some labels.Reluctant Watchman wrote: ↑May 9th, 2023, 1:31 pm I like to try all kinds of seed varieties in my garden. Re: Seed Vault and Storage
FYI, after closing and opening one of these packets... I'm not so sure how "resealable" they are after repeated use. I'm gonna guess they'll stop resealing after a handful of uses. I think I'll switch over to small zip-top bags, like these:Seed Starter wrote: ↑May 9th, 2023, 2:21 pm Taping seed packets sucks so it would be nice to find more self-sealing seed packets.

I like to keep my heritage seeds in a faraday box. Helps them resist external radiation like wifi.
I have several bags of this stuff (faraday cloth) as well as mylar.
A refrigerator may work as well, even if powered off.

Re: Seed Vault and Storage
These 2x3 plastic baggies are too small. I'd go a size up, FWIW.Reluctant Watchman wrote: ↑May 10th, 2023, 9:51 amFYI, after closing and opening one of these packets...
