Re: General Conference April 2023: Rumors / Predictions / Musings / Live Report
I had a doctor appointment and the nurse asked me if I had any plans for the weekend. I told her my church has a conference and that’s what we would be doing pretty much all weekend. She said, “Oh, what is the conference about?” I said, “oh it’s something we do twice a year, so it’s just about… whatever”. LOL Nobody has ever asked me that before and I wasn’t prepared to answer.

Should we “just keep going”, even when we’re being abused? Maybe I’ll write him and ask….

A General Authority didn’t have 45 minutes worth of gospel material to speak about at Conference?

Cordon mentioned, "Our beloved prophet" iirc.
I am sure that'll be said again too.

I think Elder Wong just said a sister was reunited with “the sister missionary who baptized her”.

What a weird thing to ask someone who is "attractive and wearing a modest swimsuit".

Extremely inappropriate for any male to ask a female why she is wearing a particular swimsuit.
All sorts of wrong.
Hey, you’re so sexy, why aren’t you wearing a bikini?

Yeah, women can be witnesses at sealings now.Lemarque wrote: ↑April 1st, 2023, 7:59 amWon't it just be the same pattern the church has always followed? Lowering the missionary age requirement, "extending" who can receive a call, or like with baptism witnesses say there isn't really a reason that it needed to be priesthood holders.endlessQuestions wrote: ↑April 1st, 2023, 7:35 amThe staffing problem becomes acute in a situation like that. I’m in a ward with a member of the Temple Presidency, and last Sunday he revealed that when it comes to men, they are now running the temple with less than 50% of the required Brethren at times. And I’d say we’ve already got issues with finding worthy men to be sealers… how are you going to exponentially increase that number for all those new temples?Robin Hood wrote: ↑April 1st, 2023, 7:27 am
Interesting.
I remember when on my mission one of my companions said that he had been at a regional conference (they used to have those back in the day) when a member of the FP said there will come a day when there are as many temples as stakes.
This gave rise to speculation that stake centres could simply be extended to include a sealing room, an endowment room, a baptistry (although stake centres already have a font), and a small room for washings and anointings.
Why does it need to be a man at the veil if it is a man coming through? Why aren't women allowed as witnesses for sealings but they are for baptism (or did they change that)?
Basically, claim that the current way things are done is "policy" and that it's being replaced with "revelation."

How is that possible? Are girls able to baptize?

He misspoke. I think he meant who helped her to be baptized by sharing the gospel with her.

I appreciated the sincerity and spirit in that younger Cook's talk, the one that was before Gong.... He struck me as very sincere and very uncalculated. And I felt the spirit in his message, it may have been just for me, but I do acknowledge it.

I agree, he's always come across as being very sincere. Certainly more so than many of the other speakers.Cruiserdude wrote: ↑April 1st, 2023, 11:09 am I appreciated the sincerity and spirit in that younger Cook's talk, the one that was before Gong.... Another “Our beloved prophet”.

Haha! That’s what I wondered! No, women can’t baptize in the church. I guess he just meant she was the missionary who taught her and invited her to be baptized and was there watching when a man holding the priesthood baptized her.

These talks are like those log cabin kits you can buy. They could be unpacked anywhere, delivered by anyone, and they'd sit there unnoticed by passers by - just another generic, folksy, log cabin that's supposed to look authentic and hand-made.

Elder Cook continues the modern LDS false doctrine of the gathering of Israel.

Some records would suggest much more.
