Same ole, same ole. Some bragging about how generous the church is with IT'S money. Nothing about tax fraud--it's a closed issue don'tcha know.

We can quit waiting for the other shoe to drop. I predict Elder D. Todd Christofferson will announce that his Oct 2020 conference talk on Sustainable Societies is a two-part sermon. The first of which he points out why once sustainable societies fail and the second talk which is this conference talk in April of 2023 which will provide the solution to the problems in the 2020 talk.

The problems delineated in the 2020 were “secularization”, “abandoning the cardinal virtues that uphold its peace and prosperity,” “ and “yielding to the temptations of the devil”, getting gain, warfare, trusting in the arm of flesh. Adultery, promiscuity, out-of-wedlock births,15 and elective abortions are but some of the bitter fruits that grow out of the ongoing sexual revolution. Follow-on consequences that work against sustainability of a healthy society include growing numbers of children raised in poverty and without the positive influence of fathers, sometimes through multiple generations; women bearing alone what should be shared responsibilities; and seriously deficient education as schools, like other institutions, are tasked to compensate for failure in the home. Added to these social pathologies are the incalculable instances of individual heartbreak and despair—mental and emotional destruction visited upon both the guilty and the innocent.” “Reliance on culture and tradition alone will not be sufficient to sustain virtue in society.”

I predict Christofferson will say the answer to all these socio-economic and political problems is found in unity of all religions, unity in political persuasions, economic unity and unity in societal relationships. All religious deities have one thing in common-unity and the foundation of unity is to love God and our neighbors. Faith leaders the world over preach unity and our faith leader and prophet even Russell M. Nelson who is commissioned by God himself, sanctions the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals when we strive in love to meet these goals. Our theology teaches of continuous revelation in solving the predicaments of this life and our prophet is directed by revelation to work with other faith leaders in love and unity in bringing about a Zion like society as exemplified in my conference sermon in 2020. We thank thee O God for a prophet to guide us in these latter days.

Ok… here’s the summary from that video… at least the potentially realistic rumors:

Predictive Rumors for April 2023 General Conference:

1. Audit report won’t happen

2. Won’t have sustaining of authorities or church officers in any session.

3. There will be several talks about charity, with a review of recently released report and an half hour documentary between sessions showcasing LDS working thru other NGO organizations in Africa.

4. Some kind of MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT (to divert attention from SEC Ensign Peak ramifications).

5. Major announcement could be missionary related. IE: young married couples can now serve missions together. Or families can go into the mission field together, or church will pay for missions, or opening twenty missions in India…

6. Temple Garments are relaxed and only need to be worn on Sunday or going to the temple.

7. Word of Wisdom is relaxed allowing tea and coffee to be consumed so all the Indians, Chinese and Africans can join faster.

8. Major announcement that Temple Square and area east of it are getting a complete makeover, including razing the Church office building, hotel Utah and having a huge open field east of the temple and new buildings to the north. It will be similar to a theme park, with some kind of ride to go visit all the areas. (Oh wait, this has already been leaked…).

9. Changing the name of FHE to “Family Service Evening”

10. Change vernacular “… going to the temple” to “… going to the House of the Lord” and always referring to the temple as The House of the Lord

11. Change vernacular from “tithe payer” to “temple worthiness”

12. Proclaim a media fast, and/or introduce an LDS Social Media platform, with harsh words for social media influencers falling off the wagon.

13. Other newish phrases will gain ground by leadership using them: “Celestial Traitors”, “Lazy Donors”, “Garment Dodgers”, ATC’s -(Activists Toward the Church), which are members within the church who speak up, or bring to light true passages of scripture which embarrass by hypocrisy.

14. More emphasis on the Bible, less on the Book of Mormon (…wait that’s already happening…).

The brethren have a very specific audience they are speaking to. All of you anti-mask, anti-jab, freedom-pushing wussies out there are not their audience. They'll do and say what they need to in order to reinforce their preeminence in the minds of their constituents/parishioners.

DONT GIVE THEM THIS IDEA

Imagine the peer pressure to serve a mission again as a married couple with kids (or for married couples who never served as 20 year olds).

Young married couples serving missions would triple the divorce rate among church members.

I could see the church offering shorter mission options. Especially since there's been more home grown missionaries serving in their own countries, there's no need for Jaxson from Payson or McKarleigh from Ogden to spend a year+ in the field trying to learn Porkencheese or German.

Maybe a 6-month version. Maybe a part time version sorta like the service model now.

The numbers don't lie. And numbers run the church. The Q15 need a big splashy win to goose numbers and distract us all from the long series of capital Ls the church is taking.

I came upon a story a couple of years ago about Pope Francis joining the Mormon Church, in his rush toward world-wide ecumenicalism, that I squirreled away but believe the story was pulled at the last minute for obvious reasons. Here it is:

"'VATICAN CITY— In the wake of the worldwide colloquium on the family hosted by the Catholic Church in the Vatican City, religious leaders from all over the world have gathered together to discuss issues regarding marriage and the family.
In attendance is first counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, President Henry B. Eyring, as well as other notable LDS leaders.

Reports are slowly coming in that shed light on the interesting work happening there. Papal spokesman, Dion Algerri stated in a press release, “We are neither confirming nor denying the conversion of Pope Francis to the Mormon Church.”

Senior PR officials for the LDS Church in Salt Lake have confirmed the baptism. “When Brother Francis met President Eyring the two of them hit it off quite nicely. They immediately bonded over their love of traditional family values, Jesus Christ, and their shared haircut.”
President Eyring’s snapchat story shows the two taking a selfie, with the word “#twinners” posted across it.

Brigham Smith Young McKay, another PR official for the Church continued by saying, “The two immediately felt a connection. Brother Francis came to President Eyring’s room where Elder Perry shared the first three discussions. After hearing the truth of the restored gospel, Brother Francis demanded to be baptized immediately.”
“We had to find the closest meeting house in Rome for do the actual baptism”, said Bishop Gérald Caussé. “All of the fonts in St. Peter’s Basilica are made for infants, not grown men!”

It is still not known if Pope Brother Francis will encourage the rest of the world’s Catholics to join the LDS church. President Monson said that all would be welcome, and reiterated the well known truth that Catholics make great Mormons.'"

Anyway Pope Francis has done similar things with different denominations such as apologizing to the Lutheran Church for the Catholic Church downplaying faith over works over the centuries. He even made a peace offering to the Lutheran Church by the Vatican issuing a special postage stamp of the Vatican State with the picture of Martin Luther--the Heretic on it.

Another thing he did was to give the message of conciliation at the Kenneth Copeland leadership conference via teleconferencing his message to the Copeland faithful. So it's not impossible that he could do the same to the Mormon faithful at this April 2023 conference by teleconferencing in the church's attempt to create a feeling of brotherhood between Global citizens. Here is what he said in his 7 min. message:

Christ will be mentioned. But only in the context of "Russell M. Nelson IS Christs best friend." Or "President Nelson is the closest thing to Christ that has ever been created." Or perhaps "when I sit across the table from our dear prophet, even the living scripture given to us today, even the sacred communicator with God, even the dear leader of God's church, even the man who will open the gates of heaven for us, even Russell Marion Nelson, I can see the heavens open up and I know that he is just as good as Christ." Or something along those lines.

Be careful with this one, I'd say. Actually, I'd say more, but I'm not sure I have any more board warnings to give at this point.

Not a bad idea.

Why Asians? Tea and coffee are a pretty integral part of European life as well. Heck if we got rid of these and lightened up on alcohol too, you'd get a lot of traditionally minded people from this neck of the woods joining too.

Speaking of expanded missionary service, a video of a devotional held in Utah is being circulated where the Area President is asking seniors to plan to serve two senior missions. One could be the traditional mission away from home, and the other could be a service mission while living at home. It is said he specifically mentioned that there is a lot of upkeep and minor renovation work that needs to be done on the temples in Utah.

So yeah, service usually means an unpaid volunteer labor force.

The devotional, found on an official church website.

I couldn’t bring myself to watch 90 minutes, so here is a quick read about the high points.

Because it is obvious satire. Francis joining because he and Henry B. Eyring shared the same haircut? 😂
