This Philippine startup wants to light up poor homes with lamp running on salt and water ..

Mijeno realized that the Philippines have an abundance of saltwater, which allowed her to create a lamp powered by the saltwater surrounding the Philippines or through a glass of water and two scoops of salt. The technology behind the lamp is actually quite simple, and it allows for less maintenance than a typical kerosene lamp. ..

Aisa Mijeno is the Co-Founder & CEO of SALt (Sustainable Alternative Lighting). She developed a metal-air based technology with an application of an LED lamp and low-power mobile devices charger. ..

SALt is an innovative lamp that provides lighting for eight hours on just one glass of saltwater. It was invented by Aisa Mijeno, an engineer from the Philippines. ..

I have heard of this elsewhere but I was sorry to heat that the technology was only being made available to various organisations and charities (non-profits).

I think it works on urine too. (Not joking)
