Six Days in August: A Riveting Story from Church History that Needs to Be Told.

Post by kirtland r.m. »

The Interpreter Foundation’s new project six days in August deals with this subject.

Joseph’s loyal lieutenant Brigham Young would not have been human had he not felt at least somewhat inadequate to assume leadership of the Church. But the situation demanded that he be strong, and of a good courage. On 8 August 1844, about a month and a half after the assassination of Joseph and Hyrum Smith, he stood to address the gathered Saints in Nauvoo:

“For the first time in my life, for the first time in your lives, for the first time in the kingdom of God in the 19th century, without a Prophet at our head, do I step forth to act in my calling in connection with the Quorum of the Twelve, as Apostles of Jesus Christ unto this generation—Apostles whom God has called by revelation through the Prophet Joseph, who are ordained and anointed to bear off the keys of the kingdom of God in all the world.” latterdaysaintmag. through the following link has some interesting information on this subject.https://latterdaysaintmag.com/six-days- ... o-be-told/

The following has direct quotes form Joseph about the coming mission of the Twelve. I have more but these are quite powerful and will probably do for now. Joseph had gathered them three months before his death and said,

It may be that my enemies will kill me, and in case they should, and the keys and power which rest on me not be imparted to you, they will be lost from the earth; but if I can only succeed in placing them upon your heads, then let me fall a victim to murderous hands if God will suffer it, and I can go with all pleasure and satisfaction, knowing that my work is done, and the foundation laid on which the kingdom of God is to be reared in this dispensation of the fullness of times. Upon the shoulders of the Twelve must the responsibility of leading this church hence forth rest until you shall appoint others to succeed you. … Thus can this power and these keys be perpetuated in the Earth.https://doctrineandcovenantscentral.org ... xt/dc-136/
