Major split in global Anglicanism? Episcopalians in trouble

Conservative Anglican archbishops in Africa are challenging a decision by the Church of England to allow clergy to bless same sex couples’ marriages, warning that the move puts the worldwide Anglican Communion in further jeopardy.

Conservative Anglican churches in developing countries will meet next week to consider radical action over the Church of England’s decision to bless same-sex couples in civil marriages, saying they question the archbishop of Canterbury’s “fitness to lead” the global church.
The Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GSFA), which represents churches in 24 countries and provinces including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, said the C of E’s new stance “goes against the overwhelming mind of the Anglican Communion”.
The “reality” of the C of E’s decision was a rejection of the doctrine that marriage is the lifelong union of a man and a woman, it added.
On Monday a dozen key church leaders from the global south are expected to consider moves to take a dominant position in the Anglican Communion, relegating Justin Welby, who as archbishop of Canterbury heads up the global church of 85 million people, to a marginal role.

So, The Church Of England Is Considering A Gender-Neutral God, But Resisting Same-Sex Marriage?
The Church of England is considering introducing a gender-neutral approach to the Christian deity, God, in a move towards “inclusivity”...
Reports on Wednesday suggested that the CoE was considering moving away from “gendered language” – where God is referred to as He or Him – although any permanent changes or rewriting of scriptures would have to be agreed by the CoE lawmaking body.
It was praised by Women and Church, a campaign group for gender equality in the CoE, as a move towards “more inclusive language in our authorised liturgy”, according to The Telegraph.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the CoE said that “this is nothing new”, because Christians have long acknowledged “God is neither male nor female” – something recognised in scripture but not always “in our worship.”

Yep, churches are lead by men who have manoevered to get where they are. They have much to lose if they don’t stick with the agenda of master mayhem… peasants be damned…

The big churches are all heading this way. This is the Church of England and its offspring... the Roman Catholic church in Germany is undergoing a similar split (this time it's the pro-gays who want their own churches), the Methodists in America are having a similar issue, and so is the Church of Scotland and its associated Presbyterian churches.

It's happened. The majority of Anglicans have now split with the Church of England.

In a tirade against the west, Vladimir Putin has mocked the Church of England for having discussions about using gender-neutral terms for God.
The Russian leader said western leaders were heading for a “spiritual catastrophe,” and cited the debate as an example of the west waging a culture war against the values of the Russian Orthodox Church.
During his speech, Putin said: “The Anglican Church is considering a gender-neutral God. May God forgive them for they know not what they do.”
“Millions of people in the West understand they are being led to a real spiritual catastrophe,” he added.
The C of E has committed to exploring the use of gendered language when referencing God following a written question at General Synod earlier this month.
Whilst no one is suggesting the current language be abolished, there has been talk of the potential to include alternative language for those wishing to use it.
The denomination has not suggested they will do away with the traditional “he/him” pronouns, or the reference to “our father” in the Lord’s Prayer.
Putin also condemned the recent decision to allow same-sex blessings in C of E churches.
During the recent General Synod, the House of Bishops and the House of Laity both voted in favour of allowing the blessing of same-sex couples, in lieu of allowing same-sex marriage.
It’s a decision that has frustrated Christians on both sides of the debate – those that believe in the orthodox view of sexuality have co ndemned the decision to “celebrate” homosexual relationships, and those in favour of same-sex marriage have accused the C of E of presenting LGBT+ people with “crumbs” instead.
Putin continued his barrage against the C of E, saying: “They distort historical facts, constantly attack our culture, the Russian Orthodox Church, and other traditional religions of our country.
“Look at what they do with their own peoples: the destruction of the family, cultural and national identity, perversion, and the abuse of children are declared the norm. And priests are forced to bless same-sex marriages.”
In response, a spokesperson for the Church of England said: “As we have repeatedly said, there are absolutely no plans to consider a gender neutral God.
“It is simply wrong to say that the Church of England is considering stopping using any particular terms for God and there are also absolutely no plans to abolish or substantially revise currently authorised liturgies and no such changes could be made without extensive legislation.”

Re: Major split in global Anglicanism? Episcopalians in trouble
Putin's personal motives are suss, but as I have said elsewhere, I believe he has helped spark a Christian revival in Russia. Russians are being encouraged to pray and worship at a time when westerners are leaving it. This may have serious consequences.
The Chinese are converting to Christianity in droves, but their government is entirely hostile to it.
Our First Minister in Scotland has just quit. Kate Forbes, apparently one of the better candidates, is being bullied in the press for being an active Christian. (The Church of Scotland – the mother church of Presbyterianism – and unconnected to the Church of England is having similar issues to the CofE.)
