Re: EARTHQUAKES!
I read death counts now exceed 3,700. Probably significant damage, disruption and sorrow for 100 times that number. And like most disasters probably disproportionately impacts the poor.
Praying for them.

“Turkey-Syria earthquake: Rescue workers in ‘race against time’ to find survivors as toll touches 7,200… Mosques opened their doors to families whose homes were damaged…
India sent relief materials…
In a rare gesture, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved a request for humanitarian aid for Syria. Israel and Syria do not have diplomatic relations and the two countries have fought several wars…

Oh, so so sad. Praying for people there.
I wonder if the recent Iran earthquake set this off - related fault line?

Amazing that hardly anything is being reported. I don't think these are man-made but regardless I don't see hardly any mainstream news agency reporting on it or if so not a headline.BeNotDeceived wrote: ↑February 7th, 2023, 10:42 pm

I suppose it is inevitable that people die when they build substandard buildings and homes. I guess we need to be thankful for more rules and regulations about construction, perhaps the only good thing to come from Cali's rule making efforts.

Keep your eyes on southern California. They just had a 4.2 down there, sometimes those are foreshocks to the bigger earthquakes.

Between 1 and 2,000 killed in Morocco earthquake, the worst in the country for a century. Thousands more injured.
Magnitude 6.8. Has destroyed a number of old Berber villages in the Atlas Mountains.

Re: EARTHQUAKES!
I am very naive on this matter. Are their any here that understand the bursts of light seen at sites of large earthquakes? The media is calling them "earthquake lights."
I just read about a bright light being captured just before the Moroccan earthquake as well as several of the larger quakes recently.

Flashes in the sky above Morocco moments before a devastating earthquake struck the country and killed thousands were captured in social media videos – similar to unexplained lights seen during previous large seismic events as well.
This bizarre occurrence is likely a phenomenon known as earthquake lights (EQL). They were spotted earlier this year during the massive tremors that struck Turkey and Syria, and in 2017 above Mexico after a powerful 7-magnitude earthquake.

Re: EARTHQUAKES!
This is a fairly well known phenomenon in Fortean circles, I've been aware of it for many years. It is thought to be caused by what is known as piezoelectricity, a kind of static charge created by the massive strains caused by seismic tension. Either that or plasma. They occur near volcanoes too.Momma J wrote: ↑September 12th, 2023, 12:30 pm I am very naive on this matter. Are their any here that understand the bursts of light seen at sites of large earthquakes? The magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck in Gansu at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometers (six miles) just before midnight on Monday, the China Earthquake Networks Center said. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the magnitude at 5.9.
By mid-morning, 105 people had been confirmed dead in Gansu and another 397 injured, including 16 in critical condition, Han Shujun, a spokesperson for the provincial emergency management department, said at a news conference. Eleven others were killed and at least 140 injured in Qinghai, according to state media.
The earthquake was felt in much of the surrounding area, including Lanzhou, the Gansu provincial capital, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of the epicenter. Photos and videos posted by a student at Lanzhou University showed students hastily leaving a dormitory building and standing outside with long down jackets over their pajamas.
“The earthquake was too intense,” said Wang Xi …
